I don't suppose you're here for... a checkup?
~ Litchi Faye-Ling

Litchi Faye-Ling is a renowned doctor living in Orient Town, located in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi. She is a playable character in the BlazBlue series.

She is voiced by Chiaki Takahashi in the Japanese version, and by Lauren Landa in the English version.

Description[]

Calamity Trigger[]

The story hints that Litchi was a scientist involved with the scientific group Sector Seven in some sort of experiment, and that Tager and Kokonoe were her co-workers. However, after a horrible accident, one of her scientist friends turned into the mysterious being known as Arakune. Litchi had a falling out with Sector Seven and went out to find Arakune and continues her quest to restore him to the person he once was, even if it means sacrificing her own life. At some point, she also found a tiny panda hairpiece at the Boundary that she calls Lao Jiu, which acts as an amplifier of the magical force known as seithr and lets her remotely control a large staff (Matenbou).

Litchi has connections to several different cast members in BlazBlue. She is affectionately referred to as "boobie lady" by Taokaka, and seems to have good relations with the cat-people of the Kaka clan, often going down below to check on them and speak with their elder. She is also the object of Bang Shishigami's affection, but she doesn't seem to return those feelings. In the story, Litchi finds herself dragged into the hunt for Ragna the Bloodedge partly out of fear that he could bring harm to Kagutsuchi, and partly because she wants his help to find Arakune. In a fourth-wall-breaking sense, Litchi is also the host of "Tell Me, Dr. Litchi!" (or "Teach Me, Miss Litchi!" as the characters say before each episode). In this unlockable mini-series, Litchi starts off being asked to teach Taokaka to become a vigilante in a note from the Kaka village elder, who also tells her that Taokaka is incredibly stupid and thus needs some help. As the series goes on, she teaches and learns from several members of the cast about the various elements of the story that are briefly mentioned or unexplained in the arcade and story modes.

Continuum Shift[]

In the story of Continuum Shift, Litchi continues searching for a way to change Arakune back to normal. However, she now tries to find Kokonoe, as Litchi now believes that she needs her help to find a solution. However, Kokonoe is not quite willing to give any help, as not only has Litchi gone AWOL from Sector Seven, but both she and Tager don't think that Arakune can be helped. In the arcade mode's story, when Litchi does manage to find Arakune, he regains enough sanity for a brief moment to tell her to stay away from him before fighting her.

In the story mode, Hazama strikes a deal with Litchi, offering her a chance to pool her knowledge with the Library and save Arakune if she aligns herself with the NOL. After the end of the True Ending, Litchi apparently accepted his offer, as she is seen defending the Imperator along with Tsubaki.

Personality[]

Litchi, at first glance, can be perceived as the perfect woman - courteous, sexy, and intelligent. Being a doctor and former scientist, she is a kind person who is willing to help those in need. She is good friends with the Kaka Clan, acting as their teacher both mentally and, in Taokaka's case, physically. She has a one-sided, rather awkward relationship with Bang: Litchi likes him as a friend, while Bang is infatuated with her, but does not know how to express his love.

In her heart, however, Litchi hides a deep guilt for not being able to help her colleague Lotte, who became the being known as Arakune. In secret, she has searched for a way to cure him through any means necessary. It is through this that she is manipulated by Hazama to work for the NOL.

Despite working with NOL, however, she never did became as low as her other co-workers are nor completely focusing on saving Arakune and forgetting everyone else. Litchi remained a kind, courteous soul with a kind heart.

Appearance[]

Litchi is a young beautiful, sexy woman with long black hair tied into a bun, pink eyes, pink lipstick, and large breasts. On top of her hair is her pet panda, Lao Jiu. She wears a stylish Chinese doctor uniform with long white sleeves, a yin and yang brooch ribbon, a red vest, and a skirt dress that exposes her thighs. When in battle, she wears a slightly similar outfit: her hair is tied into a ponytail with Lao Jiu sitting on top with a yin-yang hair accessory at the end of the ponytail. She also wears an unbuttoned red vest that shows her black bra and breasts with separate black sleeves, a long red skirt, and red shoes which are in a Chinese sort of style.

Powers and Abilities[]

Litchi has the ability to mentally control her staff from a distance. Her staff is usually seen floating behind her and it will thrust forward as she punches and kicks before returning to its neutral position. She can also throw it so it lands, erect and upright, far away from her, and she can later make it fly back to her, twirling rapidly like a wheel so that it hurts anyone in its way. The staff seems to be able to do some small amount of shape-shifting. Her staff can split into three parts or briefly double itself to attack from two angles or even become a strange "stick man" that marches forward as it wildly flails at an opponent.

Her Drive ability, Mantenbo, levitates her staff and allows the player to control it as a separate entity. In Chronophantasma, her Overdrive is Daisharin/The Great Wheel, a former super move of hers that allows her to manually control the direction in which her staff attacks.

In the fourth game, her Exceed Accel Koukujaku/Crimson Peacock has her staff transform and do a Spin Attack on her opponent and launches them high to the air. Then both her and the staff do a flying kick from both sides of the opponent in midair. Her Astral Finish, Kyu Ren Hoto/Nine Gates Of Heaven, can be done while she's on top of her staff, or during Overdrive mode. She performs a diving kick, lifting them high into the air then performs a 99-hit bicycle kick in the opponent's face, then kicks them backwards.

Trivia[]

  • Her name and normal color scheme seems to be a pun on a Chinese fruit (lychee). It should also be noted that many of her moves are named after Mahjong hands, and her name is an English name for a Mahjong rules system (Riichi), reflecting her interest in the game. Her name in Chinese also can be read as 來吃菲玲, Láichī Fēi Líng.
  • Litchi's theme, Oriental Flower, is a remix of Jam Kuradoberi's theme, Babel Nose.
  • Litchi's birthday, July 7, is also the date of the Chinese Qi Xi, or the Japanese Tanabata.
  • Litchi's Tsubame Gaeshi move is an infamous reference to Kojiro Sasaki, the sole creator of the Tsubame Gaeshi (Swallow Return) technique. Her Kote Gaeshi (Small Hand Reversal) is named after an Aikido technique of the same name.
  • Out of all the characters, Litchi's Continuum Shift artwork is the least drastically changed from her Calamity Trigger artwork.
  • In one of her voice sets, when performing Kote Gaeshi (421/623D without the staff), Litchi will yell out "Genbu", "Byakko", "Suzaku" and "Seiryu". This is a reference to the Four Symbols in the Chinese Constellations (the Black Tortoise, the White Tiger, the Vermilion Bird and the Azure Dragon, respectively). The words that Litchi yells out are their Japanese names.
  • Her staff is a reference to Sun Wukong from the Chinese Epic "Journey to the West". In the Epic, Sun Wukong's staff can change its length.
  • Her fourth color scheme resembles the Intelligence Department's color-suits.
  • In Continuum Shift, if Litchi fights a mirror match, she is the only character to acknowledge that she is fighting herself: "Huh? What?! A... a lookalike?"
  • In BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger's arcade opening, her name is misspelled "Litchi Feye-Ling"
  • Toshimichi Mori, creator of the franchise, once confirmed in an interview that Litchi has the biggest breasts in the franchise, and ranked the big-breasted girls from biggest to smallest as: Litchi, Makoto, Bullet, Mai & Taokaka.
  • A recurring joke in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift is Litchi pulling unusual items from the space between her breasts.
    • In Teach Me, Miss Litchi!, whenever the player helps Taokaka answer a quiz question correctly, Litchi appears to bring a large stack of homemade meat buns out of nowhere. This is noted by Noel, who wonders where exactly she brought them out. In a later episode, Tsubaki appears to have discovered that they came from her "cleavage".
    • In Rachel's gag reel, Litchi has fallen in love with Ragna the Bloodedge and attempts to win his love using a "medicine" that she pulls from between her breasts.
  • Another joke in BlazBlue is Litchi's apparent cosplay fetish.
    • In Teach Me, Miss Litchi!, Litchi is seen in one episode dressing Noel in a maid costume.
    • In Noel's gag reel in Calamity Trigger she was forced to wear April's outfit, Taokaka's coat and Valentine's outfit.
    • In Tsubaki's gag reel, Litchi coaxes Tsubaki into wearing a NOL uniform similar to one that Noel wears, clothing similar to Taokaka's, and a maid uniform.
