Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility."

Axel Stone is one of the two main protagonists in the video game series Streets of Rage. He was voiced by Yuzo Koshiro in the Streets of Rage trilogy, and Joe Bianco in Streets of Rage 4.
Biography[]
In the early 1990s, he was a young police officer, until Mr. X's crime syndicate took over Wood Oak City in 1991. Axel, Adam, and Blaze quit the now corrupt force to fight back.
Appearance[]
Axel is a well-built white man with blond hair and blue eyes. He wears a white shirt and blue jeans pants throughout the series (with few exceptions). A blue headband keeps his long bangs out of his eyes, and red fingerless gloves bedeck his fists.
In the first game, he wears a white muscle shirt, blue jeans, with blue and gold gauntlets. In the second game, he wears a white t-shirt and red fingerless gloves. In the third game, he wears a yellow t-shirt and black jeans - an outfit reminiscent of Adam Hunter's. In all games, he wears a blue headband and white shoes with red stripes.
As the years go on throughout the games, he becomes physically larger, turning from a middle man and martial artist to a more brutish type of brawler.

Trivia[]
- During the development of Streets of Rage, his name was Hawk.
- In Fighting Force for the Playstation and Nintendo 64 (which was originally conceived to be Streets of Rage 4), the protagonist is called Hawk, a possible reference to Axel's prototype name.
- Axel's shoe coloration, white with a red stripe, bears resemblance to that of fellow SEGA character Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Axel is shown sparring with Adam during the ending of the third game, suggesting they may be sparring partners.
- In Streets of Rage Mobile, which features Axel's Streets of Rage 2 sprites, his legs were slightly altered to make him appear taller than the original.
- In the Bare Knuckle II beta, Axel's moveset was quite different. His neutral jump kick attack is a knee attack, much like his jump kick from the first Streets of Rage; there is no second kick attack afterward. His Grand Upper was an uppercut, similar to Sagat's Tiger Uppercut from Street Fighter, and his Dragon Wing was instead a hurricane kick, similar to Ryu and Ken's Tatsumaki Senpukyaku.
- In Streets of Rage 4's DLC, Mr. X's Nightmare, the hurricane kick can be unlocked for Streets of Rage 2 Axel, using the same sprites and animation from the beta.
- His Grand Upper blitz attack is called Bare Knuckle in the EU/US version of Streets of Rage 3, a reference to the name of the game's Japanese title
