Hyper Metal Sonic, also known as Metal Sonic, or just Metal, is the secondary antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. He is the overarching antagonist of the first part, and serves as the secondary antagonist for the second part of the film. He is a robot created by Dr. Robotnik in the image of the doctor's greatest adversary, Sonic the Hedgehog, with the purpose of defeating Sonic and destroying the Land of the Sky.
Personality[]
Intially, Hyper Metal Sonic was created with a desire to destroy Sonic, and showed no mercy to those who dared getting in his way. However, as the movie progresses, he started showing humility to Sonic and friends right before his death, rescuing the President and Old Man Owl from an exploding spaceship and facing his own impending demise with dignityon the basis of his respect for Sonic. After having seemingly killed Sonic in their first fight, he goes back to Planet Freedom and tracks down Old Man Owl, looming over him ominiously like he's going to kill him. Instead, he gives the owl Sonic's favourite clothes to wear before leaving.

- In the Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, Metal Sonic v2.5, the comic's second incarnation of the character, was burned in lava similarly to how Hyper Metal Sonic was. He was eventually rebuilt as Shard the Metal Sonic and is the only other version of the character in any media that is capable of performing heroism. Similarly, Mecha Sonic Mk. II was nearly melted to death before being saved by Sonic and the Scrapniks, leading to his redemption. However, Mecha and Metal are not the same character, as he was built after Metal Sonic.
- The term Hyper doesn't mean "Speed", but actually "More", meaning that his name is actually "More Metal Sonic".
