Lt. Welkin Gunther is the main protagonist of the video game Valkyria Chronicles. He is the commander of Squad 7 and a Lieutenant in the Gallian militia during the Second Europan War. He is also the son of General Belgen Gunther, the legendary hero of the First Europan War. Desiring to be a teacher one day, he joins the Gallian militia after his hometown Bruhl is invaded by the Empire, along with his adopted Darcsen sister Isara Gunther and their new friend Alicia Melchiott, who eventually becomes his lover.
He is voiced by Susumu Chiba in the Japanese version of the anime and Dave Wittenberg in the English version, the latter of whom also voices Teddie and Kaoru Hanabishi.
Bio[]
The son of the legendary General Gunther, Welkin just wanted to live a quiet life as a teacher. This plan gets sidetracked when The Imperials invade his hometown of Bruhl. Welkin quickly adapts and joins the Gallian Militia, becoming the leader of Squad 7 of the 3rd Regiment. Using his scientific knowledge, he quickly becomes a strategist rivaling his father and organizes Squad 7 into the Imperials' greatest threat. In combat, Welkin generally doesn't fight directly, and instead gives orders to the squad from his father's tank, the Edelweiss.

Welkin is a tall young man in his early twenties with messy brown hair and grey eyes. He is usually seen wearing the Gallian militia uniform, complete with a blue cap on his head.

Welkin Gunther is Lieutenant and Commander of Gallia's militia Squad 7, and the son of First Europan War-veteran General Belgen Gunther. Welkin's main weapon is a beastly tank, called the "Edelweiss", which his father left for him. Welkin was called up to join the force after the Imperial Forces invaded the Gallian border town of Bruhl in 1935 EC. Outside of the armed forces, Welkin was a Animal Sociology major while he was attending University. He simply loves nature and the characteristic patterns of everything around him. As a result of his curiosity, Welkin is very blissful and carefree. Yet no matter how oblivious he is, he cares very much about his squad and will do anything to protect their lives.
Valkyria Chronicles 2[]
Welkin occasionally delivers bread from Alicia's bakery to the general store on campus. From there, Avan Hardence can learn new orders in exchange for experience points. After a certain point in the end game content Welkin and some other squad 7 members become playable characters.
