| ~ Omega, to the Bad Batch |
Omega is one of two main protagonists (alongside Hunter) of the 2021 Disney+ animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
She is an enhanced unmodified human female clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett and was created by the Kaminoans as the medical assistant of Nala Se. She later joined Clone Force 99 and fled with them.
She is voiced by Michelle Ang.
Personality[]
Prior to when she escaped Tipoca City with the Bad Batch, Omega had never been outside of the Kaminoan facilities. Therefore, particularly at first, she is very naive to the ways of the world. However, this also allows her to be easily impressed and amazed by many of the things she sees and experiences for the first time that many others take for granted, to the extent she's even in awe of mundane things like dirt since she hadn't seen it before.
She's also very friendly, empathetic and compassionate; one of the main reasons she quickly takes a liking to the Bad Batch is because they don't fit in with the other clones, and therefore, empathized with them, to the extent of even standing up for them when some other clones were rude to them, despite having just officially met them. In general, she seems to be especially drawn to anyone who isn't seen as "normal" and can be considered more of an outsider. This attitude extends to most of the other people she meets unless they're particulary hostile, dangerous or evil altogether, and even then, if they show at least traces of not being all bad, she'll usually be the first to acknowledge it and be willing to give them a chance, such as the crime boss Roland Durand in the episode "Infested". Because of how naturally she empathizes with others and how quick she is to get attached to them, she is often the first to want to help others in need, and on multiple occasions, she has convinced Hunter, who is generally more reluctant to get involved in any risky situations they don't have to for the sake of keeping a low profile from the Empire, to lead the rest of the Bad Batch in doing their part to help, such as helping Hera Syndulla rescue her parents.
Another example of this is how much she cares about Crosshair despite his cold and unfriendly disposition, the fact that he tried to shoot her while under the influence of his inhibitor chip, and went after them occasionally after joining the Empire since she knows it's not entirely his fault. Even after he reveals his chip had been removed at some unspecified point and that he had willingly chose to keep serving the Empire, she still saved him from drowning after the Empire bombarded Tipoca City while they were in it, and though she had to concede that that was who he was and there was little she could do to change his mind, she was still sad about it and reaffirmed that the others still saw him as their brother as they parted ways.
While Omega is generally very optimistic and upbeat, she can occasionally be moody in a way that girls around the age she resembles typically are, particularly when Hunter leaves her out of participating more actively in missions for her safety since she wants to be a helpful and contributing member of the team and hates feeling left out. However, this becomes progressively less of a problem after she picks up a Zygerrian plasma bow and quickly gets good at using it, which allows her to fight alongside her brothers whenever the need arises, and in conjunction, Hunter sees and acknowledges that she's far from defenseless.
History[]
Omega initially worked as a medical assistant to Nala Se. Although she always stayed on Kamino, she knew of each member of Clone Force 99 (nicknamed the Bad Batch), later meeting them on the planet after they returned from the Conquest of Kaller. Hunter first notices her during Palpatine's announcement of the rise of the Empire standing with the Kaminoans, but dismissed it as nothing when she quickly disappeared from sight. However, she quickly followed them after the assembly to formerly introduce herself, during which she reveals that she knows all their names and really looks up to them.
Determined to grow closer to the Bad Batch, Omega later sat with them in the mess hall, where she defended the group when some other clones "regs" made fun of them by throwing her food at one of them demanding they apologize, and this resulted in a food fight after Wrecker follows suit and escalates the situation. During the food fight, Echo gets knocked unconscious by another clone, and when he wakes up in the medical unit, Omega is present along with AZI-3, during which she comforts him when he temporarily remembers the trauma he suffered when he was constantly hooked up to a machine during the time he was being used by Wat Tambor and the Separatists. After the rest of the Bad Batch goes to see him and they think they're being summoned to see Lama Su over the food fight (when in fact, they're being summoned by Tarkin to be tested) Omega expresses the urge to go with them since she feels responsible for starting the food fight, but Hunter insists that they'll handle it and that she should away from their squad for her own sake since they're "nothing but trouble".
She is later present when Tarkin is speaking to Lama Su and Nala Se about Clone Force 99, during which, despite having just witnessed their efficiency during his aptitude test, he expresses skepticism about their loyalty due to their track record of disobeying orders, and particularly questions whether they carried out Order 66 since only General Depa Billaba's death was confirmed and there was a report her Padawan escaped. Therefore, he intends to give them a mission to test where their loyalty really lies, which causes Omega visible concern. After Tarkin has given them a mission to supposedly eliminate Separtist insurgents on Onderon, Omega wanders off from Nala Se to speak to Hunter in the hangar before they head off despite him previously telling her to avoid them, during which she expresses her concern over what she heard Tarkin saying, since he has an obvious dislike for clones and she doesn't trust him. She also expresses an urge to go with them and goes as far as suggesting they all leave Kamino altogether since she doesn't think it's safe there anymore. Hunter responds by telling her that change simply takes some time to get used to before heading off, though it's clear he's considering her claims.
While the Bad Batch is on Onderon, Omega decides to look around in their quarters due to being interested in their possessions while with AZI-3, whom she convinces that it's okay to be there since it's for a research assignment. However, a squad of clone troopers arrives shortly afterward, who have come there to take all of their gear to the hangar, with the leader of the squad forcefully grabbing Omega to take her to an unspecified place. When AZI-3 objects to this since they're official personnel, the captain knocks him out with a stun blast, with Omega expressing concern for him, but being forcefully escorted out of the room. As it turns out, the "Separatist insurgents" that Tarkin sent the Bad Batch to eliminate were actually former soldiers of the Republic along with unarmed civilians and children led by Saw Gerrera, so with the exception of Crosshair due to this inhibitor chip partially working, they refused to kill them. However, they head back to Kamino at Hunter's insistence since it's now clear to him that Omega was right about it not being safe there anymore, as well as because, much to the rest of the squad's surprise, Tech reveals that she's an enhanced clone like them, meaning she's in certain danger too and they can't leave her there.
Right after they arrive though, they are surrounded by shock troopers and arrested for treason due to Tarkin witnessing their refusal to complete the mission through a probe droid and sent to a cell in the brig. There, they find Omega in the same cell. When Hunter asks her if she still wants to escape with them, she quickly affirms that she does. Shortly afterward, she comforts Crosshair after he gets into a small argument with Hunter for repeatedly disobeying orders and getting them in the mess they're in by telling him she knows it's not his fault sicne she's aware his obediance to the Emprie is being caused by his inhibitor chip. However, Crosshair is then taken and escorted from the cell. While he's away, the rest of them divise a plan to get out after Tech confirms that the cell structure is weak, and has Wrecker discreetly make a hole in the wall that's big enough for Omega to get into the ventilation. Once she's right above the shock troopers guarding the cell, she causes the panel she's on to fall on top of them and quickly flips the switch to open their cell, after which they quickly incapacitate and knock out the troopers.
Omega then shares what she heard about them taking all their gear to the hangar, so they sneak over there to retrieve everything important and get their ship ready while preparing to rescue Crosshair. However, just then, Crosshair arrives in the hangar with some shock troopers, who, unfortunately, had the signal in his inhibitor chip strengthened by Tarkin so that he is now completely loyal to the Empire and willing to stop their escape. In the ensuing shootout, Crosshair ends up shooting and injuring Wrecker, but otherwise, the rest of the Bad Batch and Omega manage to escape with some help from Nala Se, who prevents the troopers from sealing the hangar, with Omega proving herself to be surprisingly talented with a blaster by disarming Crosshair before he can shoot Hunter despite never having used one before. After escaping, she reveals to Wrecker that she found his stuffed toy which he thought he lost, much to his delight, and following Hunter's suggestion, they agree to find a way to lay low now that they're fugitives of the Empire and Crosshair is gunning for them, with Hunter plotting a course for a location where he knows a friend that can help them is.
