Heroine Overview

Protected by Mars, the planet of fire, Guardian of Love and Passion, I am Sailor Mars! In the name of Mars, I'll chastise you!
~ Sailor Mars's stock introduction.

Rei Hino (known as Raven "Raye" Hino in the DiC and Cloverway English dub) is one of the main protagonists of the Sailor Moon series. She is the reincarnation of the Princess of Mars and the civilian identity of Sailor Mars. Rei is a Shinto priestess who works at the Hikawa Shrine. Rei's element is fire.

She is voiced by Michie Tomizawa in the original anime, Rina Satō from Sailor Moon Crystal who also voiced Tooru Taki in Natsume's Book of Friends in the Japanese Version and Cristina Vee in the current VIZ Media English version, who is well known for voicing Homura Akemi in Puella Magi, Alisa Bosconovitch in the Tekken series, Shantae from the series of the same name, and Ladybug in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir along with her movie counterpart, while in the original English Dub from DIC and Cloverway she was voiced by Katie Griffin who also voiced Alex in Totally Spies!.

Appearance[]

Rei Hino[]

Rei has straight long black hair with a purple shine and purple eyes. She is often seen wearing her red and white traditional priestess uniform or her winter school uniform. Her summer uniform has her wearing a light gray formal vest with a white short-sleeved sailor uniform with a dark red ribbon tied in the center, gray skirt, white knee-high socks, and black shoes. Her uniform between both winter and summer school uniforms is dark gray with red linings.

Her primary casual appearance has her wearing a teal leather jacket with an orange turtleneck, purple skirt, orange stockings, and pale yellow knee-length heeled boots.

Her uniform in Sailor Stars is the same as her winter school uniform from her middle school but has a minor color change.

Sailor Mars[]

Sailor Mars has red star earrings. She wears a Sailor fuku with a red skirt and matching high heels. She has a dark red ribbon above the back of her red skirt, and a dark purple ribbon on the front of her chest with a red jewel in the middle. She wears a tiara on her forehead, with a dark red stone in the centre of it.

Super Sailor Mars[]

When she was upgraded by Pegasus in the fourth season. She is like the rest of the Senshi who gained sleeves in each sides of her leotard. Her dangling red star earrings has added up two more chains to make it longer, the red gem at the center is now a heart shaped, and her back bow was lengthened. Her red choker gained a star brooch on front.

Princess Mars[]

She wore a red strap dress that went past her feet and wore a red choker that was tied into a ribbon at the back. She had a necklace and small red stud earrings. She also wore red high-heeled shoes with straps. The symbol of Mars was present on her forehead. She had Phobos and Deimos Castle.

Personality[]

Anime[]

In the anime, Rei Hino was a hot-headed, stubborn, pessimistic, overbearing, and somewhat tyrannical termagant who was obsessed with everything from being a Shinto priestess to being a musical idol. She often teases and bickers with Usagi. However, she is also very kind, loyal, and cares a lot about her family and friends.

Manga[]

In the manga, Rei Hino was a stoic, serious individual who did not involve herself with men (due in part to her estrangement from her politician father). She was mysterious, reserved, and beautiful.

Rei's manga image was more fitting with her role as a miko than her anime personality. She and Minako had a strong bond, similar to that seen in the live-action series.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon[]

Her personality in the live-action series was very similar to how she was portrayed in the manga.

Rei preferred to act aloof and dignified at the beginning of the series, and insisted that she was not interested in being friends with the other girls or joining them in their activities (especially karaoke, which she professed to hate).

As time went by, however, she warmed to them and became very close to her fellow Sailor Scouts. Of all the Sailor Scouts, she was the one who cared the least about her past life, and she often argued with Sailor Venus about that. She also had a very strong bond to Sailor Venus, similar, in certain aspects, to the one she had with Sailor Moon in the anime.

Musicals[]

In the musicals, Rei was far closer to her anime counterpart than the manga. She dreamed of becoming a composer.

Powers and Abilities[]

Rei had various powers outside of those as a Sailor Scout, which she used in her duties as a miko. These ranged from ESP to the ability to read flames (fire reading), as well as using ofuda as a weapon. Her ESP often led her to have premonitions about upcoming events.
