Shinichi Kudo (工藤 新一 Kudō Shin'ichi), also known by his alter-ego Conan Edogawa (江戸川 コナン Edogawa Konan), is the titular main protagonist of the manga and anime series Detective Conan. He is a famous high school detective until he is force fed a strange poison by Gin and Vodka, two members of the Black Organization, shrinking him back to first grade age. From then on, he seeks to find a way to restore his original form whilst exposing the organization's crimes.
As Shinichi, he was voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi in the Japanese version, who also voiced Inuyasha in Inuyasha series, and Jerry Jewell in Funimation and Griffin Burns in Bang Zoom! in the English version. As Conan, he was voiced by Minami Takayama in the Japanese version and Alison Viktorin in Funimation and Wendee Lee in Bang Zoom! in the English version.
Appearance[]
Shinichi took the appearance of his six year old self after being exposed to a prototype poison called APTX 4869, which he had been forced to swallow by two men in black later revealed to be members of the Black Organization.
Personality[]
The poison de-aged Shinichi's entire body except for his nervous system and therefore he still has the personality, memories, and incredible deductive ability of his teenage self. Conan's goal is to hunt down the Black Organization and have them arrested for their crimes, as well as find an antidote to the APTX 4869. To do so he plans to make the washout detective Kogoro Mouri famous in hopes of attracting cases related to the Black Organization.
Biography[]
While on a date with his childhood friend Ran Mouri, the famous high school detective Shinichi Kudo encounters two men from a secret criminal organization who force feed him a strange poison that causes his body to shrink back to first grade age. However, due to a rare side-effect, he shrinks to the form of a young child except for his nervous system and therefore he still has the personality, memories, and incredible deductive ability of his teenage self.
In order to keep his true identity a secret, Shinichi now goes under the alias Conan Edogawa and pretends to be a real child to throw off suspicion while he secretly solves many cases and looks for clues about the organization. He loves Ran but cannot confess his feelings or reveal his true identity in order to protect her. Meanwhile, he also uses her father Kogoro as a front to solve crimes, letting the latter taking credits for his works.

- He has begrudgingly worked with gentlemen thieves like Phantom Thief Kid and Lupin III.
- Conan has had nightmares about being forced to grow up again and Ran moving on from his teenage self. However, they affirmed their feelings for each other during a London case.
- Due to how long Conan's series has been going on (1994 - present), some fans have gotten annoyed by how drawn out the story has become; wishing for him to have the final showdown with the Black Organization with his FBI, CIA and police allies and force the mastermind into the open. Without the enemies, Conan and Ai will finally be able to perfect antidote to the poison that turned them into kids.
