Kinji Tohyama is the main male protagonist, hero and narrator of the light novel and anime series Aria the Scarlet Ammo. He is an E Rank Butei who comes from a family of legendary heroes. However, Kinji wants nothing to do with his family's legacy, and has desired to live a normal life since the death of his brother. One day, however, he is saved by a girl named Aria H. Kanzaki, a descendant of Sherlock Holmes himself, and reluctantly becomes her partner shortly afterwards.
He is voiced by Junji Majima in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Todd Haberkorn in the English version of the anime.
Appearance[]
Kinji is a young teenage boy of average height with short, wavy black hair and brown eyes. He has been described as handsome and gloomy in terms of appearance. Throughout most of the series, he wears his Butei High School uniform more than any other piece pf clothing.

Kinji has a very bitter and cynical personality as a result of his older brother's death and the ridicule he experienced as a result of it afterwards. He has an extreme inferiority complex as a result of his past and almost never smiles. Before he met Aria, he wanted nothing more than to quit his life as a Butei and live a normal one. He thinks of life as something that doesn't have to be special just because he happens to originate from a wealthy and famous family. However, Aria accuses him of simply running away and being scared of his true potential using his antisocial personality, something he eventually (and albeit reluctantly) comes to agree with.
Kinji is constantly challenged by his desire to live a normal life, especially by the Cao Cao sisters, who outright told him to his face that he'll never be able to live with "normal" people due to his Hysteria Mode. Indeed, after Kinji is finally able to transfer out of Butei High and live the general civilian life he's always dreamed of, he realizes how unfulfilling it is and returns to embrace being a Butei as it was the only thing he was genuinely good at to a certain extent. However, he still wishes to be a normal Butei, which he soon discovered would be impossible after becoming known to the U.S. military, Intergovernmental Armed Detective Alliance (IADA), and other governments and groups based the battles he engaged in since meeting Aria.

Armaments[]
- Butterfly Knife: A memento from his brother, Kinichi Tohyama, when the latter went missing (albeit later resurfaced). It sustained damage during his first battle against Vlad but was repaired soon afterwards.
- Beretta 92FS Inox: Otherwise known as the "Kinji Model," it is an illegally modified pistol capable of firing either in three round bursts or fully automatically.
- Excalibur or Ragnarok/Scramasax: A long sword left by Sherlock Holmes following his defeat before it was later acquired by Kinji.
- Desert Eagle Mark XIX: A keepsake from his deceased father, capable of firing in three round bursts or fully automatic, similar to Beretta 92FS Inox.
- Orochi: A modified fingerless bulletproof glove which Kinji uses to perform Slash.
- Manage Knife: A knife given to Kinji by Kou, which has the previous pieces to his Scramasax embedded into it (which was destroyed and shattered during his previous battle with her) it is a folding knife which Kinji himelf is stated to have "fell in love with at first sight".
Powers & Abilities[]
- Firearm Usage: Kinji is a very proficient firearm wielder due to the education he received at Butei High. His already great skills at wielding firearms are increased while they a enhanced 30-fold when under Hysteria Mode's influence.
- CQC (Close Quarters Combat):Kinji has fair hand-to-hand combat skills, but not outstanding in comparison to other characters. However, he becomes a formidable opponent when under Hysteria Mode's influence.
- Hysteria Savant Syndrome: The secret weapon of the Tohyama bloodline, a special genetica; condition passed down to numerous family members over the years, including Kinji. It is triggered by sexual arousal, and has the user's brain and nervous processes being accelerated 30-times that of their regular capacities. This results in Kinji's strength, speed, reflexes and intelligence all increasing thirty-fold.
- Intellect: Kinji is incredibly intelligent, always making sure to watch and pay good attention to whatever surroundings he finds himself put in. His intelligence was so high, in fact, that he was able to transfer into Inquesta were he was able to temporarily discard his Butei life in favor of a normal one.
- Quadra Proficiency: Out of all of the Quadras introduced in the story, Kinji is the only one to have earned the title of Quadra himself which he obtained while under the effects of Hysteria Mode. Making him easily one of the strongest and most powerful Quadras as a result of this, along with his heightened abilities that both contributed largely and prominently in him gaining the title of "Quadra of Mimicry."
Techniques[]
- Split: A move that allows Kinji to slice a bullet in half with his butterfly knife.
- Edge Catching Peak: A move which allows Kinji to stop and catch a large blade using only his middle and pointer fingers.
- Billard: A move which allows Kinji to fire a bullet into another person's bullet and result in it moving off it's own course.

- Invisible: This move was first invented by Kinji's brother Kinichi, it allows a person to draw their gun at such a high speed that they can fire a bullet and holster the gun so fast that the enemy doesn't even see it, while this technique is best suited for a revolver Kinji has been able to learn and adapt the move in order to best suit his Beretta.
- Mirror: Similar to Billiard, this move allows Kinji to fire a bullet directly into another person's shot, thus rendering the opponent's shot to stop in place. The second bullet fired uses the enemy's bullet to fire the shot right back into their own gun.
- Bite: A move which allows Kinji to catch a bullet using his teeth, albeit by rendering him unconscious for a while afterwards.
- Ouka: A move that allows Kinji to accelerate his body's movement speed to the point of being able to move at the speed of sound itself. This technique is capable of being used without Kinji's knife/sword, but all at drawback that Kinji will take self damage due to the move's immense speed.
- Slash: A move which allows Kinji to advert a bullet's trajectory without the requirement of the usage of a knife by instead using his fingers.
