The story of Din Djarin, also known as The Mandalorian, from the live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Background[]

The Mandalorian Child

As a child, "the Mandalorian" survived an attack by Separatist battle droids.

In his youth, Din Djarin lived with his parents on a unidentified planet that was victim of a separatist attack in which his parents lost their lives by protecting him. A super battle droid flushed him out and would have killed him without the intervention of Death Watch. This tragic event remained in his memory years later.

Some time later, he joined a Mandaloran clan called "The Tribe", settled on a volcanic world. When he was old enough, Din to pledge allegiance to the Mandalorian creed, thus becoming one of their and acquired armor and weapons from his new people, before joining the Bounty Hunters' Guild. In 9 ABY, five years after the destruction of the second Death Star and the final defeat of the empire, the Mandalorian had gained an excellent reputation as a bounty hunter, which provoked the jealousy of other members of the guild.

Season One[]

Chapter 1[]

On a planet of ice, Mando goes to a bar filled with rogues, three of whom harassed a Mythrol. One of the stalkers tries to provoke him, even going as far as to graze the beskar armor with a knife. Mando grabs a glass and uses it to hit the thug before banging him with the second scum and killing the Quarren by closing the door on him, cutting him in half. The Myrthol wanted to thank the mandalorian but to his great misfortune, he had come to capture him.

The Client standoff

The Mandalorian agreed to capture an "asset" for his Imperial client.

Once outside the planet, the Myrthol tries to convince his kidnapper not to deliver him but the bounty hunter just ignored him until his prisoner descended into the lower part of the ship where he discovered with horror others prisoner locked in carbonite before being carbonated himself by the mandalorian. Arrived on Nevarro, Mando went to see the leader of the guild, Greef Karga to collect his bounty. Refusing first the imperial credits which according to him was worth nothing, he obtained Calamari Flan instead and asked for another mission but found that the premiums were not worth much, so Greef offered him an alternative of Mission may be common with a man named "The Client" whom he should meet in person.

Arrived at the meeting place, Mando knocks on the door and shows a magnetic card to the door droids then enters and is escorted by a GNK droid. In the room, The Client accompanied by some Stormtroopers, welcomes Mando mentioning that Greef had informed him about the reputation of the mandalorian. The conversation cut short when Dr. Pershing suddenly entered the room, prompting Mando to point his blaster at him. The Stormtroopers targeted the bounty hunter and despite their numerical superiority, Mando was not intimidated. The Client calmed the conflict and then proceeded to explain the purpose of the mission: to recover a person of about fifty on Arvala-7 by promising that the reward will be a huge amount of Beskar, even offering a brick of this same metal to the bounty hunter.

Mando then went to the enclave where the tribe lived and gave the beskar to the gunsmith so that she could forge a new Pauldron for him. During the making, Mando had flashbacks from his childhood the day the separatists attacked and killed his parents.

Once on Arvaka-7, he scanned the area before being suddenly attacked by Blurrgs until an old Ugnaught was crested with darts, saving the Mandalorian to whom he asked if he was a bounty hunter, which Mando confirmed. The Ugnaught took Mando to his home and introduced himself as Kuiil. Kuiil then informed the mandalorian that he had helped other bounty hunter in the same mission and that none of them survived.Advised by Kuiil, Mando tries to ride a Blurrg but after some failure, he gives up but tries again when Kuiil reminds him that his ancestors knew how to ride the Mythosaur and finally succeeded in taming it.

On Blurrgs' back, they cover several kilometers of gorge and crevasse to arrive at the camp where the target of the mandalorian is. Halfway, Kuiil indicates the rest of the way to go before returning home but before he leaves, Mando wants to pay him for his help but Kuiil declines his offer, considering that if Mando gets rid of the mercenaries, peace will return to his valley and will be sufficient payment.

Arrived at the site, Mando crossed paths with another member of the guild, the assassin droid IG-11. After a bad start, the two bounty hunters agreed to collaborate and share the bounty. Once all the mercenaries were eliminated, they entered the hangar and IG-11 detected a single form of life which turned out to be a young child aged fifty due to the biology of his species, as well as the target . IG-11 is about to eliminate the kid but Mando shoots him quickly in the head.

Chapter 2[]

Mando brings his target back to his ship but on the way, three sentient alien species known as Trandoshans attack him by surprise. He succeeds in killing one of them, which forces the other two to flee. Unfortunately for him it is not the last of his problems, when he finds Jawas stealing pieces of his ship and managed to escape with it.

Stuck on this world, Mando returns to see Kuiil who reveals to him that he knows where to find the Jawas and that he will be able to negotiate with them, despite the fact that the Mandalorian is skeptical about it. After a rainy trip, the two travelers find the Jawas, whose language Kuiil knows and understands enough to start negotiating with them. The Jawas first demand the beskar material of Mando's armor, which is out of the question for Mando who tries to say in their language that its stolen parts belong to him only so that the Jawas laughs at mediocre mastery of their language, comparing him to a Wookie. Annoyed, Mando almost burns the mocking Jawa until Kuiil calms him down and succeeds in finally finding an agreement with the thieves.

Mudhorn fired flame

The Mandalorian tries to ward off the Mudhorn in their fight

To recover his stolen pieces, Mando must recover the egg of a Mudhorn, gigantic and violent creatures. Arrived in the cave of the beast, Mando accidentally awakens the creature, from which a powerful blow of the horn vitiates his coat of arms and heavily damages his armor. While the Mudhorn charges for the finishing blow, the Child uses the Force to lift the beast which gives Mando time to stick his knife into the Mudhorn's neck.

After recovering his pieces and with the help of Kuiil, Mando repairs his ship. He offers his partnership to the Ugnauth, but Kuiil politely declines, declaring to have worked all his life to escape from servitude. Mando then offers him his gratitude and Kuiil does the same to thank him for bringing peace to his valley.

After rescuing the Child, Dijin becomes a fugitive to the Imperial Remant until he enlist help for an Galatic Civil War veteran, Kuiil, and the newly redeemed Greef to defeat them all. Now, he and the Child are out looking for Yoda’s species or other Jedi who could take care of the child.

Chapter 3[]

After leaving the Child in the hands of the Client, he is disconcerted by his lack of response to the question. However, he goes back to the Armorer's enclave, carrying the reward for delivering the Child-- 20 Beskar ingots. The Armorer proclaims that this amount of material can be shaped in many ways, to which Mando responds that his armor has lost its integrity, and it is in dire need of repair. The Beskar is just what he needed. The Armorer proceeds to make a cuirass for the Mandalorian, and after an aggressive confrontation from other Mandalorian Paz Vizsla, proceeds to forge whistling birds.

Whistling birds are a powerful defense against multiple enemies. Use them sparingly for they are rare.
~ The Armorer

He then learns from Greef Karga that he was the only bounty hunter who succeeded in finding and delivering the Child, earning him the "richest reward the parsec has ever seen". He then demands his next mission, which Greef assigns to Mando's content. However, before boarding the Razor Crest, Mando has a change of heart. His new mission is to retrieve the Child. Greef said that he also did not know what they were planning to do to the mysterious Child. He enters the Client's building and takes the Child by force, drawing the attention of Stormtroopers. On the way back to his ship, he is ambushed by Greef and other mercenaries, demanding he hand the Child over. He refuses despite the unfeigned threat, and finds himself cornered. Fortunately to him however, Mandalorians from the Mandalorian enclave come to his aid, and Mando escapes with the Child.

Chapter 4[]

Take the bait, you hunk of junk.
~ To an AT-ST
Cara Dune and Mando

Cara Dune and Mando's aggressive encounter

The Mandalorian lands on the desolate forest planet of Sorgan to hide the Child from the Guild. By illegally having possession of the Child, he is wanted. In a local bar, he unexpectedly runs into Cara Dune, a former Shock Trooper who is now refuging on the planet. They later team up to protect the village that is the setting from raiders. In their tactful analysis, the Mandalorian estimates there must be at least 20 raiders, but upon Cara Dune discovering a massive footprint which she identified to be left by an AT-ST, she decided that this was more than what she signed up for.

The pair return to the village, and the villagers hear their two only hopes tell them to pack up and leave. They said that the AT-ST poses too much of a threat, and that the villagers don't stand a chance, citing her experience as an ex-shock trooper. After the villagers still refuse to leave, Mando suggests that they can indeed fight the walking tank if they show them how. From there, they start training the villagers, as Cara explains her plan to victimize the walker with a trap. The villagers train in shooting and building barricades for their tower defense game.

Their elaborate plan starts out with Djarin and Dune infiltrating the enemy base to provoke them. Unfortunately, the AT-ST pilot tauntingly parks the walker right in front of their trap, and proceeds with eradicating the village. They recognize the pilot just needs to be provoked to step forward, and they'll win. So, Dune fires at the window, and the pilot decides to step forward for whatever reason. To their success, the AT-ST falls through the lake, and the Mandalorian blows it up with a thermal detonator. The raiders retreat, and thanks to Cara Dune and the Mandalorian, the villagers are safe. However, they cannot return the favor to them by protecting the Child, as a bounty hunter simply shows up right then to take the Child. Before Mando can fire, Dune shoots the Kubaz, and Djarin politely leaves.

Chapter 5[]

The Mandalorian defeats a pursuing bounty hunter in a dogfight, but the Razor Crest is damaged and he lands at a repair facility run by Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) in Mos Eisley on Tatooine. While seeking work to pay for the repairs in a local cantina, he meets Toro Calican (Jake Cannavale), a young bounty hunter looking to join the Bounty Hunter's Guild by capturing Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), a well-trained mercenary. Despite having misgivings, the Mandalorian agrees to help him for the bounty, while Calican will take credit for the capture. Peli, meanwhile, has come across the Child and begins to take care of it while working on the ship, growing slightly attached to it.

The Mandalorian and Calican travel into the Dune Sea on speeder bikes, looking for Shand. They come upon Tusken Raiders; the Mandalorian barters with them for safe passage. They eventually come across a Dewback with a dead bounty hunter attached to it, which turns out to be bait laid out by Shand to attract anyone looking for her. The two manage to avoid her attacks and capture her but she manages to destroy one of their speeder bikes in the fight.

The Mandalorian goes to get the Dewback to replace the destroyed speeder, while Calican watches Shand. She tells him that the Mandalorian is a traitor to the guild and that the bounty on the Mandalorian and the Child are worth a great deal more than her bounty. Calican is unconcerned with the bounty, but Shand points out that taking out a Mandalorian would make him a legend. She offers to help Calican capture the Mandalorian if he sets her free. However, Calican shoots her, assuming that she would betray him, and heads to the repair facility on the speeder bike, where he captures Motto and the Child. The Mandalorian arrives, uses a flash grenade to disorient Calican, and kills him. The Mandalorian then gives Calican's money to Motto to pay for the repairs on his ship and he leaves Tatooine. Out in the desert, a mysterious figure is seen approaching Shand's body.

Chapter 6[]

The Mandalorian contacts his old friend Ran, who has assembled a crew consisting of ex-Imperial sharpshooter Migs Mayfeld, the Devaronian strongman Burg, the droid pilot Zero, and the knife-wielding Twi'lek woman Xi'an, to rescue the latter's brother Qin, a prisoner of the New Republic. Upon arrival on the prison ship, they fight through security droids and make it to the control room where an inadvertent escalation causes a New Republic soldier to trigger a beacon alerting the New Republic. The crew rescues Qin, but double-crosses the Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian escapes, isolates and defeats each crew member, then captures Qin, who he delivers to Ran in exchange for the money. Ran attempts to send a gunship after the Mandalorian to kill him, but the New Republic beacon had been placed on Qin, leading a trio of X-wings to Ran's station. The X-wings open fire on the hangar. The last scene shows Mayfeld, Burg, and Xi'an nursing their wounds in a cell on the prison transport, having been spared.

Chapter 7[]

The Mandalorian receives a message from Greef Karga. Karga's town has been overrun by Imperial troops led by the Client, who is desperate to recover the Child. Karga proposes that the Mandalorian use the Child as bait in order to kill the Client and free the town in return for allowing the Mandalorian and the Child to live in peace; Karga secretly plans to kill the Mandalorian and take the Child to the Client. Sensing this trap, the Mandalorian recruits Cara Dune and Kuiil the Ugnaught to assist him; Kuill also brings a rebuilt IG-11, reprogrammed to act as a nurse droid instead of a bounty hunter despite the Mandalorian's apprehension. Upon arrival on Nevarro they meet Karga and his associates, but en route to the town are attacked by Mynocks. Karga is injured but the Child uses the Force to heal his wound; in return, Karga shoots his associates, unable to go through with his trap.

The group formulates a new plan: Karga will pretend that Dune captured the Mandalorian, and all three will enter the town to meet the Client while Kuiil returns the Child to the ship, where IG-11 is waiting. During the meeting, the Client receives a call from Moff Gideon, whose stormtroopers and deathtroopers surround the building and open fire, killing the Client. Gideon arrives and boasts that the Child will soon be in his possession. In the desert outside town, two scout troopers track and kill Kuiil and kidnap the Child; the last shot shows Kuiil in a heap on the ground.

Chapter 8[]

While the Mandalorian, Cara Dune, and Greef Karga are trapped, IG-11 rescues the Child. The Mandalorian finds a vent into the sewers, where he hopes to find his people's hidden stronghold. Moff Gideon gives them until nightfall to surrender, or he will order his troops to fire. The Mandalorian recognizes Gideon: Gideon had been an officer of the Empire's secret police when the Empire took over Mandalore. IG-11 arrives on a scout trooper's bike with the Child, blasting through the stormtroopers. The Mandalorian takes down several more but is injured by Gideon. As they take cover inside, Gideon orders a trooper with a flamethrower to burn them out; the Child uses the Force to reflect the flames back and immolate the trooper. The Mandalorian and IG-11 remain behind while Dune and Karga take the Child into the sewers. IG-11 removes the Mandalorian's helmet to treat his injuries before they join the others in the sewers.

Arriving at the Mandalorian enclave, they find it abandoned except for the Armorer, who explains that the Imperials found the enclave when the Mandalorians revealed themselves. Upon seeing the Child who saved the Mandalorian from the Mudhorn on Arvala-7, the Armorer is reminded of the Jedi, who Mandalorians see as their ancient enemies. She charges the Mandalorian to take the Child to the Jedi, wherever they might be; she also carves a Mudhorn signet into his spaulder and gives him a jetpack. While the Armorer remains behind, the Mandalorian, Dune, Karga, IG-11, and the Child escape down an underground lava river. IG-11 elects to sacrifice himself by walking into an ambush and activating his self-destruct. After they emerge from the tunnel, Gideon attacks in the TIE fighter he arrived in. Using his jetpack The Mandalorian plants explosives on Gideon's fighter, which brings down the craft. With the Imperials seemingly dealt with, Karga invites the Mandalorian to return to the Guild, but he refuses as he must take care of the Child. Dune elects to remain behind to work as Karga's enforcer. The Mandalorian buries Kuiil beneath a cairn of stones and returns to his ship for the journey to come. As the Mandalorian departs Nevarro, Gideon cuts himself out of the crashed fighter with the Darksaber.

Season 2[]

Chapter 9[]

Still looking for other members of Yoda's species to reunite the Child with, the Mandalorian is told that a Mandalorian was once seen in the town of Mos Pelgo on Tatooine while at a fighting match. He returns to Tatooine and talks to the mechanic Peli Motto. Her astromech droid R5-D4 projects a holomap showing the estimated location of Mos Pelgo, believed to have been long gone.

In Mos Pelgo, the Mandalorian arrives in search of the fabled Mandalorian. The bartender in the town tells him of a man known as "The Marshal", who looks like him. When the Marshal arrives, he affably invites Mando to have a drink with him. He takes off his helmet, and reveals he is not actually a Mandalorian. While he compliments the Mandalorian for protecting the Child, Mando demands that he take off his armor. The Marshal, Cobb Vanth then reveals that he is the leader of this land. They then predict that only one of them will get out of the cantina alive, and a standoff occurs. But before it starts, the ground shakes.

Marshal Cobb Vanth explains to Mando that a Krayt Dragon has been terrorizing his land and he can't get rid of it on his own. He bargains that he will gladly give up his armor if the Mandalorian can help him kill the beast. Glad, the Mandalorian accepts. Now that Din Djarin and Cobb Vanth have made peace, Mando's first step on his new mission is to make friends with the neighboring Tusken Raiders, since they shared a common enemy. Despite Vanth opposing the ordeal, he was forced to accept it because deep down he knew that this may work. The Mandalorian had to cool tensions between Vanth and the Raiders with his flamethrower.

As Vanth slowly learned to accept the Raiders' help, the two of them returned to Vanth's homeland to announce the plan to get rid of the Krayt Dragon. This alliance with the Tusken Raiders was heavily criticized by the townspeople, but using his ironic rhetoric skills, reversed the backlash. Soon, they were all working together to defeat the Krayt Dragon, which from the Tusken Raiders, they learned resided in a cave. The first plan to lure it out of the cave and detonate explosives to target its soft underbelly failed. Mando's next plan was more risky, so much so that it might actually work. After luring the Krayt Dragon to a bantha with a dynamite vest, the Krayt Dragon swallows Mando with the Bantha. He then escapes from inside the beast, unscathed, and detonates the explosives.

After successfully killing the Krayt Dragon, all parties celebrated. The Tusken Raiders butchered the monster for rare meat that they were ecstatic to finally have. To make things even better, the Tusken Raiders found a valuable white pearl. As this happened, the Marshal gladly forfeited his armor, and they depart on friendly terms. Unknown to them all, a scarred figure watched as Vanth gave his armor to the Mandalorian. He knows it was his, because the man watching was Boba Fett.

Chapter 10[]

The Mandalorian and the Marshal depart on friendly terms in the previous episode. Upon returning to Mos Eisley, he rejoins Peli Motto, who was playing cards with an insectoid alien named Dr. Mandible. After the victor was decided, Motto explained that he was to escort a Frog Lady to the planet of Trask, where she will meet her husband to fertilize the eggs. Reluctantly, the Mandalorian decides to embark, knowing that he cannot use the hyperdrive as light speed would kill the eggs on-board the ship. During his long space flight to Trask, they encounter a Republic patrol who suspects them to be enemies due to lack of confirmation on Mando's part. He was forced to crash land on the icy surface of Maldo Kreis.

The ship crashes through the ice and becomes severely damaged, and the Frog Lady uses the robot head of the deactivated droid Q9-0 to translate her frustration at the Mandalorian for breaking his word. The Mandalorian lets out a sigh of frustration, agreeing to repair the ship so that they can get to Trask sooner. Later, he and the Child find the Frog Lady bathing with her eggs. As Mando scoops the eggs to put them back in the container, the Child begins to eat the eggs he finds by curiousity. The rest of the eggs begin to hatch, and they find themselves surrounded by a cluster of large spiders.

As they flee back to the ship, a giant spider appears, which the Mandalorian subdues by trapping it under the ice with explosives. Once at the ship, he uses his flamethrower to cremate all the spiders huddling against the door, while the Frog Lady shows her competence by providing backup with a blaster pistol. Succeeded, the Mandalorian starts the ship, only to be violently interrupted by the giant spider yet again, further damaging their ship. This time, the Mandalorian wasn't able to do anything about it-- before the two X-Wing pilots from earlier arrive to assist them.

After the environment lays to rest, the pilot explains that technically, he should be arrested. But his records show that his good deeds outnumber his bad ones, so they let him go, and the Mandalorian departs for Trask.

Chapter 11[]

Bo-Katan Rescues Mandalorian

Bo-Katan rescues the Mandalorian

While on the water planet Trask, Dijin and the Child fell into an elaborate trap by Quarren pirates seeking to obtain his beskar armor. They were rescued by the Mandalorians he sought- namely Bo-Katan Kryze, Axe Woves, and Koska Reeves. After the rescue Dijin was shocked when the three casually removed their helmets in front of him, and assumed they had misappropriated the armor from actual Mandalorians. It was then that Dijin learned that he was a Child of the Watch, a small Mandalorian sect dedicated to reestablishing the ancient ways of Mandalore, and not all Mandalorians were like him. Leaving them to destroy the Quarren pirate's ship Dijin went back to the port where he was confronted by more of the pirate gang who were seeking revenge for the deaths of their fellow pirates. Kryze and her people arrived to once again rescue Mando. They convince him to help them with taking Imperial cargo purchased with plunder stolen from Mandalore from an Imperial freighter docked at the port. The four are not only able to take the freighter, but are able to seize the freighter as well. While Mando returned to Trask Kryze and her fellow Mandalorians took the freighter. Before leaving, Kryze told Mando that he should seek out Ahsoka Tano for assistance in returning the Child to his people.

Chapter 12[]

After receiving inadequate repairs from the Mon Calamari in the previous episode, the Mandalorian returns to Nevarro to reunite with Cara Dune and Greef Karga. Greef, as magistrate, promises a safe place to keep the Child as they go on their mission to destroy an Imperial base, and places him in the seat of a classroom, where he covets the macarons that his deskmate has. He uses the Force to steal them from him. Greef, Cara, and Din force an incompetent Mythrol to help them, an amphibious alien species.

They arrive at the base on a silver landspeeder, where the Mythrol makes a bunch of complaints, but through intimidation is forced to deactivate the lava cooling system. There, they find Dr. Pershing's experiments, including plans for the Child and human cloning, and are soon forced to evacuate. Mando flies back to his ship using his jetpack, as Cara Dune fearlessly drives an Imperial transport truck recklessly yet artfully. Greef assists by shooting the following vehicles, and at one point, brutally kills a stormtrooper at point blank with the turret. Mando soon saves them from the danger of TIE Fighters, and rescue them, the base having been destroyed. In return, Mando asks for the ship to be repaired.

Chapter 13[]

Ahsoka vs Djarin

Ahsoka and Mando in their very brief duel

After getting their ship fixed in the previous episode, the Mandalorian travels to the heavily guarded Calodan on Corvus, and are directed to meet Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth. She had recently had an encounter with Ahsoka Tano herself, who she wants dead. Morgan made a deal with the Mandalorian, stating that if he kills the Jedi, then he will be rewarded with a staff of pure beskar. He used the opportunity to fool her into allowing him to find Ahsoka without any intervention. At the sight of the Mandalorian, Ahsoka immediately tries to neutralize him, misinterpreting him as a threat. However, after displaying equivocal prowess in combat, the Mandalorian raises his hands in a submissive position and cooly says that Bo-Katan Kryze sent him.

Ahsoka Mando Spear

Ahsoka gifts Mando Morgan Elsbeth's spear

When they talked, Ahsoka refused to train Grogu, fearing what would happen if a being as naturally powerful as Grogu were to fall to the dark side, and sensing that Grogu was vulnerable to it. The Mandalorian tells her that he will help her defeat the magistrate if she promises to train Grogu. She agrees, though it is revealed after they defeat the magistrate and her troops that she actually intends to give him directions to a Jedi Temple on Tython. Ahsoka defeated Morgan Elsbeth in a dangerous duel, the latter of which wielded the Beskar spear he promised to Djarin, while the Mandalorian shot down his opponent named Lang with simplistic ease. They depart on good terms, with Ahsoka gifting Mando the Beskar spear in place of Morgan.

Chapter 14[]

Unknown to Mando, bounty hunter Boba Fett was still in pursuit of him, and his ship can be seen as the Mandalorian watches The Child meditate on the "magic rock" on the Jedi temple on Tython, which is where he was directed to go by Ahsoka Tano. Sensing the danger, he tries to get Grogu off of the stone, but the aura of Force surrounding him was incredibly immense, like a beacon to the sky. Since he was being repeled by this incredible power, he went down to where the ship landed, to confront the man he will soon know as Boba Fett.

Upon entering his vicinity, he instantly gets shot by a long-ranged semi-automatic rifle, but quickly gets to cover. Boba and Mando confront each other, and Boba tells him that if he tries to shoot him, Fennec will shoot the Child. They start off with a standoff consisting of negotiation after negotiation, until they finally put all of their weapons on the ground and Boba tells Fennec to stand down. He mentions Cobb Vanth, who gave the Mandalorian armor that belonged to him, not the marshal. Mando doesn't see Boba as an honorable man by the rules of his beliefs, so he refuses. Under the promise of a fair deal that the Child will remain unharmed if he complies, Mando doesn't have time to decide as an Imperial ship appears, and all 3 of them see the potential threat and scatter.

RzNm

The Razor Crest is destroyed

They dispatch the stormtrooper infantry marching out of the ship, with Fennec showing incredible aim, either due to acquired talent or her cybernetic enhancements given to her by Boba Fett on Tattooine a long time ago. Boba Fett displays brutality towards the stormtroopers as he breaks their helmets with enough force to likely crack their skulls using his club, presumably stolen from Tusken Raiders. Later, as Fennec sends a boulder towards a stormtrooper on a deadly mounted turret, Boba arrives in his reclaimed armor, showing unmercifully masterful expertise and utilizing the high tech augmentations of his armor, many of which have never been seen before. Mando compliments Boba as he shoots down a shuttle mid-flight with a torpedo from his jetpack, to which he responds that he was aiming at the other one. Moments later, a laser destroyed Mando's ship, the Razor Crest.

As they search the wreckage, Moff Gideon is shown delighted at his successes, as he sends the ominous Dark Troopers into action. They descend in order to pick up the Child, retrieve him and fly back up with him. Boba, despite being in his Slave I, does not do anything since shooting them would kill the Child. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand tell the Mandalorian that since they are in his debt, they will help him get the Child back from Moff Gideon and Dr. Pershing, who needs a Midi-chlorian donor for his experiment-- the Child is a perfect candidate, having more Midi-chlorians (Force sensitivity) than Anakin Skywalker.

Chapter 15[]

Prisoner Migs Mayfeld is working on the Karthon Chop Fields, but is remanded into the custody of Marshal Cara Dune. The Mandalorian needs Mayfeld, a former Imperial soldier, in order to acquire the coordinates to Moff Gideon's ship. Mayfeld directs them to a hidden Imperial rhydonium refinery on Morak. As all the others are known to Imperial security, the Mandalorian must accompany Mayfeld into the refinery to access a terminal and steal the coordinates. Mayfeld and the Mandalorian hijack one of the transports and disguise themselves as soldiers. The highly explosive rhydonium shipments are attacked by pirates. The Mandalorian is almost overwhelmed, as two TIE fighters swoop in, and they reach the facility, the only shipment to survive.

The terminal Mayfeld needs is in the officer's mess hall, but Mayfeld sees his former commanding officer, Valin Hess, and fears being recognized. The Mandalorian goes instead but the terminal requires a facial scan, forcing him to remove his helmet to acquire the codes. He is confronted by Hess, but Mayfeld intervenes. After a tense drink where Hess callously dismisses the Imperial soldiers and civilians who died in Operation Cinder, an angered Mayfeld shoots Hess dead. Mayfeld and the Mandalorian fight their way to the roof, while Fennec Shand and Dune provide covering fire, and Boba Fett arrives aboard Slave I. Mayfeld destroys the refinery with a well-placed sniper shot. The ship is pursued by two TIE fighters, but Fett obliterates them using a seismic charge. Dune lets Mayfeld go free as thanks for his aid, and the Mandalorian sends Moff Gideon a threatening message, vowing to rescue Grogu.

Chapter 16[]

Locating Bo-Katan Kryze and Koska Reeves, the Mandalorian and Boba Fett asked for their assistance in saving Grogu. Initally refusing and disparaging Fett due to his clone heritage, Bo-Katan refused, but after seeing Fett and Reeves, fight she changes her mind, especially when Djarin tells her that she can have Moff Gideon's light cruiser in payment to help free Mandalore. With the help of Gideon's clone engineer Pershing, the group concoct a plan to rescue the child. Taking the shuttle Pershing was riding in, they stage a pursuit with Fett firing on them from Slave 1. Bo-Katan crash landed the shuttle in the launch bay to keep the ship from launching its full compliment of TIE fighters. Fett manages to destroy the fighters that were launched and retreats into hyperspace.

While Bo-Katan, Reeves and Fennec Shand head for the bridge, Djarin headed to the bay where the third generation Dark Trooper droid are being held. He manages to seal all but one of them in the bay. The one Dark Trooper that got loose engaged in hand to hand combat with Djarin, who found it almost impossible to defeat the droid before finally being able to jam his beskar spear inside the droid. Before the remaining Dark Troopers can break down the door, he flushes them out into space.

Going to the ship's brig, he finds Moff Gideon holding Grogu hostage. Gideon tells the Mandalorian that he already got what he needed from the child and that they were free to go, but that they would leave his ship. When Djarin went to pick up the child, Gideon attacked him from behind with the darksaber, but Djarin's beskar armor saved him as the sword could not cut through that metal. Djarin was able to defeat the Moff in hand to hand combat and took possession of the sword. Taking the child with him, Djarin cuffed the Moff and escorted him to the bridge where Gideon goaded Bo-Katarn about not being able to accept the darksaber as she had not won it from him in hand to hand combat. Even after Djarin told her he yielded, she still refused to take the blade.

At that moment, the droids Djarin had earlier flushed out in to space made their return. Trapped on the bridge, the group could only watch the monitors as the droids swept through the ship and began working on breaking down the blast doors. Gideon remarked that in a few minutes, only he and the child would be alive. Just as the Dark Troopers were breaking through, a single X-Wing docked with the cruiser and Grogu immediately perked up. The group watched as the robed figure who emerged from the fighter proceeded to easily slice his way through the droids with his lightsaber, and watched as that figure crushed the last Dark Trooper droid with the Force. Seeing Grogu's reaction, Djarin opened the doors so the robed figure could come in.

MandoGroguBye

The Mandalorian saying farewell to The Child.

Walking through the entry way, the robed figure pulled down his hood, revealing himself to be the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Telling Djarin that he would protect Grogu with his life, he offered to train Grogu in the Force, and told the Mandalorian that Grogu wanted his permission to go. Taking off his helmet, Djarin showed Grogu his face for the first time and promised the child that he would see him again. Setting Grogu down, the Mandalorian held back tears as Grogu walked towards Skywalker and R2-D2, who reacted happily to the child's presence. Picking up the child, Skywalker and R2 left to return to his X-Wing.
