~ Fiora to Zanza |
Fiora is the deuteragonist and one of the seven playable characters in Xenoblade Chronicles. She appeared again as an optional Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 alongside Shulk as part of the Challenge Battle Mode. She is a childhood friend of Shulk and Reyn as well as Dunban's younger sister. Despite appearing near the beginning of the game, she is the last of the protagonists to join the party permanently. This is due to the fact that she is believed to be killed by Metal Face, which fuels Shulk's main reason for setting out on his journey.
Later, she is revealed to be alive, but has been turned into a Faced Mechon known as Face Nemesis, though unknown to most, she has also become the host for the Mechonis god, Meyneth. She also serves as Shulk's love interest.
She is voiced by Eri Nakao in the Japanese version and Carina Reeves in the English version.
Appearance[]
Fiora is a beautiful young woman of average stature (about 160 cm, or 5'3") and has rounded green eyes. Fiora has long blonde hair that falls just past her shoulders and a somewhat petite frame. However, despite her delicate frame Fiora is displayed to be rather physically fit. Fiora's starting outfit consists of a small top that reveals her midriff but conceals the navel. She wears a short skirt and long leggings.
After the events of Galahad Fortress, Fiora has a different appearance with a mechanised body; she now possesses a skin-tight white partial exoskeleton and a shorter haircut.
Personality[]
Fiora has been shown to be a very kind and caring person who wants to help everyone. She is also a pacifist, as she pleads with Egil to stop his plans, even going as far to forgive him before any other person within the party does. Fiora is also incredibly protective of Shulk, to the point where she does not even trust Reyn, his best friend, with his safety.
Fiora is an energetic, cheerful and playful person. She has been shown to be able to read people rather easily, such as when she predicted Reyn and Shulk would forget the ether canisters and when she reads peoples' emotions in her Heart-to-Hearts. This trait has allowed her to get to know every member of the party extremely fast, possibly indicating that she can make friends easily. The byproduct of this trait is that Fiora can convey and show her emotions easily and does frequently, however she tends to show all of her emotions.
Despite being a careful person, Fiora will occasionally take rather reckless actions time to time, such as when she charged at Metal Face with a vehicle, an act that ultimately got her seemingly killed. She notes this in a Heart-to-Heart with Dunban and vows not to make the same mistake again. Fiora will do nearly anything to help people, but she often does so without thinking about how everyone will feel after the fact.
In some Heart-to-Hearts, it is implied that Fiora is in fact very scared about the situations she is in, but puts on a brave face so she does not feel like a dead weight. This trait further develops near the story's climax as she starts to verbally express that she is a dead weight to everyone. Throughout the story, Fiora is a calm and collected person, rarely showing any form of anger.
History[]
Xenoblade Chronicles[]
Upon her first appearance in the story, she treated Dunban his wounds after his battle in Sword Valley. Later, she assisted Shulk and Reyn in collecting replacement cylinders for the Mobile Artillery and fighting off the Mechon when they attacked Colony 9. She would later get separated from them in order to find Dunban in their house, but he was not there. She found a Mobile Artillery that crashed into a house. She piloted it and saved Shulk, Reyn, and Dunban from Metal Face. She attempted to kill Metal Face for attacking Colony 9, but sadly, she failed and was seemingly killed by him.
Her body had been taken by the Mechons to the Central Factory of the Mechonis in order to be transformed into the pilot unit of a Faced Mechon. She was deemed by Egil, the leader of Mechonis, to be viable to house the soul of Lady Meyneth and to pilot Face Nemesis. While she was conscious, Fiora has no control over her body and can only observe as Nemesis, with Meyneth under her control. At Galahad Fortress however, when Shulk and his party encountered Face Nemesis, which was under Egil’s control instead of Meyneth’s, Fiora gained enough strength to call out Meyneth's mind, begging her to save Shulk. This gave Meyneth the strength to break free of Egil's will and she destroys half of Galahad Fortress, saving Shulk and the party in the process, but greatly damaging her Face Mechon as well.
After finally being awakened again, thanks to Shulk, she reunited with other party members. Unlike Shulk, who was happy that Meyneth is no longer controlling her body, Fiora did not hate her for it and actually wanted to help Meyneth. Upon arriving at the Mechonis capital, Agniratha, Fiora allowed Meyneth to take control of her body to explain the history between the Bionis and Mechonis, and their war, and how Zanza was the real source of the war. Fiora and her friends stopped Egil from destroying the Bionis. When Shulk was about to kill Egil, with Zanza in his head, Fiora’s voice in his head is strong for Shulk deciding to spare Egil, against Zanza’s will.
After Shulk was killed by Dickson, Zanza was reawakened from Shulk’s body and Fiora tried to stop him from restarting the universe, alongside Meyneth. However, she lost and Meyneth sacrificed herself to save Fiora and other party members. Without Meyneth, Fiora’s Mechon body is starting to become weaker, slowly dying in the process. She asked Melia to keep her circumstance a secret from others, knowing that it will make them worry. Despite getting weaker, she was still willing to fight alongside Shulk (who was later revived) and others to the very end. She helped to defeat Zanza and his two disciples, Dickson and Lorithia.
