Fizzle is a minor character in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure from the 1988 toyline.
Marvel Comics[]
Fizzle first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Enemy Action". He and his fellow Sparkabots, Sizzle and Guzzle, were sent to Earth by Springer to keep an eye on Galvatron, who had been encase in lava. On seeing Galvatron was free, they followed him to the Earth Decepticons' base but were prevented from intervening by the Firecons, who had also come from Cybertron seeking an alliance with Galvatron. A fight broke out between the two groups which saw Fizzle knocked into the sea on fire and suffering the indignity of being rescued by an amused Galvatron, whose blunt dismissal of both parties brought their conflict to an end.
Needing help, Fizzle and the others freed Ultra Magnus from the lava and together they tried to disrupt local Decepticon commander Shockwave's plan to revive Megatron to use as a weapon against Galvatron. They were prevented from intervening by Galvatron himself, with the Sparkabots all taking a beating before Ultra Magnus came to their rescue and drove off Galvatron.
In the "City of Fear" storyline, the group returned to Cybertron only to find the Autobot stronghold of Kalis deserted. They formed an uneasy alliance with the Decepticon Flywheels and learned the area was populated by zombies. Realising they were being controlled by a nearby signal, the Sparkabots held off the zombies while Ultra Magnus and Flywheels deactivated it. Fizzle and the others soon after met up with Springer and learned the zombies were the work of the renegade Autobot scientist Flame, who was attempting to activate a faulty fusion engine that could destroy Cybertron. Joining up with the Wreckers, they fought the zombies and infiltrated Flame's sanctum, allowing a zombified Impactor to shut the engine down.
In the following story, "Meltdown", Fizzle and the other Sparkabots again accompanied Ultra Magnus in investigating a series of gladiatorial games organised by the alien Zabra using captive Autobots in alliance with Decepticons. They tangled with the Firecons again and Fizzle voted in favour of backing up Ultra Magnus instead of accompanying the Wreckers back to Earth to challenge Galvatron. The Sparkabots managed to save Ultra Magnus from Zabra's Decepticon allies as Magnus captured Zabra and shut down the games.
Fizzle's only Marvel US appearance was in Issue #45. He was shown among a group of Autobots being held prisoner by the Decepticons on Cybertron. He, Sizzle and Backstreet were sent to Earth by the Firecons as part of a plan by Scorponok to trick a group of human bounty hunters, the Roadjammers, into hunting them. The trio were captured but Scorponok was forced to free them when the Roadjammers used their weapons to turn a group of Decepticon Headmasters against him. Fizzle and the others made sure to get the Roadjammers to safety before leaving the scene.
Trivia[]
- Throughout his Marvel UK appearances, Fizzle was consistently depicted in a red and black colour scheme instead of the blue and black colour scheme used by his toy and in his Marvel US appearance. A similar colour scheme was used in his Ladybird Books appearance.
