People have bailed on Matt his whole life, and I'm not gonna be one of 'em. You do what you want, but that's not the kind of friend I wanna be.
~ Foggy on his friendship with Matt.

Franklin "Foggy" Nelson is a major supporting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as the tritagonist of Marvel's Daredevil and a supporting character in The Defenders, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.

He is set to return in Daredevil: Born Again.

He is one of the two founders of the law firm Nelson & Murdock, along with his best friend Matt Murdock, whom he has known since law school. He worked on cases with a passion for getting justice for the innocent including Karen Page and Elena Cardenas. Nelson remained loyal to Murdock even after discovering that Murdock had been living a secret life as a masked vigilante known as Daredevil.

He is portrayed by Elden Henson.

Biography[]

Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 1)[]

Foggy and Matt become close friends while roommates at Columbia Law School. Foggy also starts dating Marci Stahl, another law student. Matt's disgust with the unethical practices at Landman & Zack leads him to persuade Foggy to leave and start their own firm in Hell's Kitchen. Their friendship faces a challenge when Matt is attacked by Nobu and Wilson Fisk, but they reconcile by the end of the season. Foggy discovers Marci's affiliation with Landman & Zack and convinces her to assist Nelson & Murdock after uncovering her colleagues' ties to Fisk.

Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 2)[]

Foggy and Matt defend Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, despite the risks to their firm due to Frank's actions. Despite losing the case and the strain from Matt's double life as Daredevil, Foggy's efforts and improvised opening statement earn him recognition. Jeri Hogarth offers him a job at Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz, recommended by Marci. Matt encourages Foggy to accept the offer and move on from Nelson & Murdock, believing he deserves better opportunities.

The Defenders[]

Since leaving Nelson & Murdock, Foggy has adopted a more corporate appearance with short, slicked-back hair and rekindled his relationship with Marci. He first appears defending Luke Cage at Claire's request. Later, he meets Matt for drinks and delegates some case work to him. Hogarth assigns Foggy to monitor Jessica Jones, which he passes to Matt. When the Hand threatens the Defenders' loved ones, Matt shelters Karen and Foggy with allies until the danger passes. After Elektra's actions lead to Stick's death and Matt's apparent demise, Foggy mourns with Karen and later expresses concern about Matt's dual life, secretly returning his Daredevil suit. Devastated by Matt's loss, Foggy and Karen hold a private vigil at Matt's church.

Jessica Jones (Season 2)[]

When Chao and Benowitz attempt to push Jeri out due to her past actions and her ALS diagnosis, Foggy offers to support her, but she rebuffs him, insisting he stay out of her personal affairs. Although his whereabouts are not further addressed, a conversation Jeri has in the season 2 finale suggests that Foggy and Marci might join her at her new law firm.

Luke Cage (Season 2)[]

Luke seeks Foggy's assistance when he's sued for assaulting Dontrell "Cockroach" Hamilton, with Benjamin Donovan as his legal representation. Foggy advises Luke to accept an offer to attend a fundraiser with Piranha Jones, offering $150,000. Foggy is later seen aiding the wounded after the party is attacked by Bushmaster's gang, but he emerges unharmed. Luke later contacts Foggy to obtain Big Ben Donovan's cell number to arrange a visit with Mariah Dillard after her arrest.

Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 3)[]

Encouraged by Marci, Foggy decides to run for District Attorney to find purpose in the absence of Matt. His relationship with Karen is tense initially, as she clings to hope for Matt's survival. Season three also introduces Foggy's family, owners of Nelson's Meats, adding depth to his character.

Daredevil: Born Again (Season 1)[]

To be added.

Personality[]

Foggy is a fun-loving and sociable man when not doing his job but is shown to be professional when the situation demands it even under extremely stressful circumstances. Foggy is shown to not look down on others with disabilities and wants to help the little guy whenever he can. Noticeably Foggy is the more pragmatic of the duo as while he dislikes it he admits he wants to take cases that will actually pay the bills while Matt is more focused on if the person is truly innocent rather then how much they will get paid. While Foggy disagrees with Daredevil due to him being a vigilante he does recognize the figure as beneficial to Hell's Kitchen and it's citizens safety.
