“ | We don't worship so much as follow a set of principles. We want to bring peace back to this wasteland. The world tends toward destruction, so we try to make a difference. | „ |

The Followers of the Apocalypse, simply known as the Followers, is a humanitarian organization based in New California, with the goal of providing and education and medical services to those struggling to survive in the wastes.
Once allied with the New California Republic, they have since parted ways due to disagreement regarding the NCR's foreign policy. The Followers of the Apocalypse appear in Fallout, Fallout: Tactics, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, and Fallout: New Vegas.
Formation[]
The Followers were originally a secular tribe residing in the outskirts of Dayglow, consisting of various vault dwellers. After exiting their Vaults, the harsh life of the wastes taught them the folly of war. The group developed a purpose of educating humanity about the horrors of the Great War as to teach them not to repeat the atrocities that the old world human civilizations did that has resulted in their demise.
The formal establishment of the Followers began in the 22nd century by Nicole after a sickness began spreading among the settlement's inhabitants. She gathered the survivors and moved further up North. During the trip however, the group was ambushed and attacked by Marauders, resulting in the deaths of Nicole's parents.
This motivated her to establish the Followers of the Apocalypse, to educate and spread knowledge so that another Great War may never happen and paths leading to it would remain abandoned. In the year 2161, the Followers moved and salvaged the Los Angeles Public Library which became the main headquarters of the Followers of the Apocalypse.
Development & History[]
The destruction of the Master by the Vault Dweller in 2162 paved the way for the Followers expansion, allowing them to gradually establish control in the Boneyard.as a center of learning and research. When the New California Republic formed, the newly formed nation joined forces with the Followers.
The Followers resumed on their goals and soon eventually, they opened the first university known in the Wasteland in the Boneyard. the university would offer courses on a non-profit basis to anyone willing to learn.
Near the mid 23rd century, the Followers grew to the point that it had enough resources and influence to send out scholars on expeditions to gather knowledge, including information on tribal dialects. By the year 2246, The followers sent anthropologist and linguist Edward Sallow to the Grand Canyon, resulting in an irreversible chain of events that would lead to the creation and emergence of Caesar's Legion. An imperialistic society built on slavery and conquered tribes.
The Followers continued on with their goals and efforts unimpeded as their cooperation with the New California Republic continued to prosper. However trouble began with the NCR's Mojave Campaign, a campaign project with the sole interest of annexing New Vegas as well as the entirety of the Mojave Wasteland. In 2273, the Followers sent a contingent lead by Julie Farkas to assist NCR Forces in the Mojave Wasteland.
They would eventually establish a hub in the Old Mormon Fort in a slum called Freeside where they would assist many of its inhabitants and forming a relationship with a gang there known as the Kings. As well as helping other impoverished communities such as Westside. Providing basic necessities such as access food and water.
Due to the Mojave Campaign by President Kimball, relations between the Followers and the NCR has rapidly dwindled. The failing relations were also fueled by internal dissent. While the Followers held a near-monopoly on education, particularly higher education, in the NCRs territories, some members of the organization were dissatisfied with the knowledge-centric profile of the organization.
This would result in a split in 2275 and the formation of the Office of Science and Industry by dissenting followers. A science research and development agency that becomes a rival to the Followers, aligning themselves and becoming an official branch of the NCR Government. The NCR soon finally most ties with the Followers and turned to support to the fledging OSI agency. In response, some of the Followers instigated a campaign to erode what little support NCR has among the locals of the Mojave.
As of 2281 the Mojave branch of the Followers of the Apocalypse continue to provide assistance to the impoverished residents of New Vegas. However, they started encountering issue with shortage of medical supplies such as Med-X, Radaway and the Like. And the Kings charging for water, doubling the price to NCR Citizens residing in Freeside. With the NCR no longer supporting them, the Followers are forced to make do with what they have to try to improve conditions for those in need.

Nicole | Pamela Adlon | Nicole is a serene and spiritual person who tends to ramble a bit, but who believes in her group, and in their plan to make the world a better place with their message of peace and nonviolence. She may hold a philosophy of nonviolence, but Nicole hates the Children of the Cathedral, whom she believes to be evil. She has seen Morpheus and the nightkin, and believes the hospitals and good works are a sham - a cover for something dark and malevolent. Despite her tough outward appearance, she believes that violence never solves anything. Her parents were killed by marauders near the Great Glow leading her to start the Followers of the Apocalypse. She believes in bringing peace back to the land, but is at the same time distrustful of the Children of the Cathedral, especially after she heard of their malpractices via Talius. She has a spy, Laura, inside the Cathedral of the Children who is probably the most knowledgeable person to speak to about the organization outside of the organization itself. Also one of the most coherent ones, she'd hold long anti-Children spiels. |
Laura | Kath Soucie | To onlookers, Laura is just another Cathedral worshiper: A meek, submissive, quiet woman patiently following the lead of the rulers of the Cathedral. She is actually a Followers of the Apocalypse spy working for Nicole, focusing on finding out what is going on in the Cathedral so that the Followers can expose the wrongdoings. When she meets someone who has the pass phrase, she reveals an altogether different person: Bright, sharp, sarcastic, and strong. She has discovered the Children's plans to conquer the wasteland by systematically taking over towns, the launch point of their attacks being their hospitals, which are stockpiled with weapons and explosives. She is described by Nicole as being extremely loyal to the Followers of the Apocalypse, though it is unclear as to how long she has been working as a spy prior to the arrival of the Vault Dweller |
Talius | None | Talius was a vault dweller from Vault 13, sent out by the overseer to find the water chip. Together with Ed, this means there are two confirmed vault dwellers from Vault 13 who were sent out before the Vault Dweller. Supplied with a shotgun and some 12 gauge shells, Talius searched unsuccessfully for the water chip for some time before hearing of Necropolis' water pump. Presumably hoping that the pump's source was, in fact, a functioning water chip, he traveled to the city not having known of its newly garrisoned detachment of super mutants. |
Katja | None | Katja is a slender young woman with a smudged face and dark clothing. She is a scavenger from Adytum who occasionally camps out with the Followers of the Apocalypse in the Boneyard Library, even though she does not follow their way of life. She hates dogs, and will express this disdain out loud every time the Vault Dweller examines or pets Dogmeat. She is also a possible companion to the Vault Dweller. |

Julie Farkas | Laura Bailey | Julie Farkas administers of the struggling New Vegas branch of the Followers of the Apocalypse. Aside from research, the Followers provide food to Freeside but are ill-equipped to readily provide medical services. They take whatever donations they can, but no one has been generous enough to lend medical supplies to them. What they really need is a steady supplier of medicine. According to her, it would be a godsend if the Followers were able to secure a regular supply of medicine, but the Crimson Caravan is too steep, so the Followers need to think locally. Additionally, a couple of people used to be great assets before they became chem addicts. As administrator to the New Vegas branch of the Followers, she knows much about the surrounding Freeside neighborhood, including information on the ruling gang known as the Kings, and the unsavory businesses in Freeside. Even though it is outside of her duties as regional manager, Farkas has tried to make peace between the NCR squatters and the Freeside locals, but has had no luck. Julie Farkas is good friends with the NCR Major Elizabeth Kieran. |
Doctor Usanagi | Laura Bailey | Doctor Usanagi is a graduate of the Followers of the Apocalypse run Angel's Boneyard Medical University in the NCR. A fully qualified physician, she joined the group as she believed in their values and ideas and is currently working in the non-profit New Vegas clinic, trying to improve the lot of the Freeside locals and squatters alike. She is a versatile and selfless doctor, trained in multiple disciplines, including surgery and psychiatry. Doctor Usanagi is capable of treating any common illness or injury for a fee; the proceeds of which also help to fund the Followers' primary mission in the Mojave Wasteland. Her clinic is entirely non-profit with most of the expenses of the clinic, including supplies, medical equipment, and security, funded by charity donations. |
Emily Ortal | Lora Cain | Hailing from Arroyo, Emily Ortal is a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse, with an affinity for computers and related projects. She has been working in the Mojave since 2276, joining the Followers to do some good, as neither the OSI nor other NCR-aligned organizations funded research into medical technology unless it had military applications. The inflation and taxation in Republic territories also played a factor in her choice. She is responsible for reprogramming Yes Man for Benny, making it connect to the network, but as an invisible peer, so that Mr. House wouldn't fry it remotely. Benny kicked her out of the Tops soon after choosing not to fulfill his end of the deal and ended their arrangement once he had what he wanted. What made it all the more embarrassing was a brief affair she had with him, chalked up to sleep deprivation and one atomic cocktail too many. |
April Martimer | Gwen McGee | April Martimer is a scientist and a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse. She will express her interest in examining ED-E, a prototype duraframe eyebot carrying Poseidon Energy research data, so that she can extract the data and put it to good use in the future. She resents the Brotherhood of Steel, who also has an interest in the eyebot since they will be using the data to their own benefit. She will contact the Courier through ED-E once it's audio logs are unlocked. Once ED-E is upgraded either by her or the Brotherhood, she will vanish from the fort |
Arcade Gannon | Zachary Levi | Arcade was an only child, the son of an Enclave officer, born at a military base in Navarro. His father passed away when he was young, but the circumstances and leading to his death were never shared with him. When the New California Republic sacked Navarro, he and his mother fled with troopers from his father's old unit. The group moved south, attempting to integrate, but were still sought by the NCR and Brotherhood of Steel, requiring repetitive relocation to the fringes. |
Ignacio Rivas | Ron Yuan | Rivas is a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse and has been working with the NCR on getting HELIOS One operational since the NCR took control of the location from the Brotherhood of Steel during Operation: Sunburst. Under the guise of research into the potential for solar energy, Rivas was sent to HELIOS by the Followers in order to investigate its connection with the pre-War company Poseidon Energy, and its business outside of alternative energy. |
Tom Anderson | Ron Yuan | Anderson trained with the Followers of the Apocalypse and previously ran operations for the NCR's Office of Science and Industry. Passing through Westside with Arcade Gannon recently revealed to him the extent of the community's water problem. He subsequently returned to assist, becoming integral to the effort of not only bringing water to Westside, but teaching the citizens how to establish and grow crops. Many of the locals say that Anderson's assistance has allowed the area to reach a level of self-sustainability. |
Ezekiel | Alex Mendoza | Ezekiel is an anthropologist with the Followers of the Apocalypse, traveling around the Mojave Wasteland studying the history and cultures of local settlements and tribes in the region. He shows great interest in the Great Khans, having in-depth knowledge about the tribe and their history, feeling sympathy for their tragic past. |
Edward Sallow | John Doman | Born around 2226 near Boneyard, Edward was once a citizen of the New California Republic. After his father's death at the hands of raiders in 2228, his mother sought the protection of the Followers of the Apocalypse. While she worked for the Followers, cooking and cleaning in their library, the young Edward learned how to read and started taking courses, provided by the organization free of charge. Taught to "bring the torch of knowledge to the wastes", Sallow was a student of uneven quality. Though he was highly intelligent, his success in scientific pursuits was only proportional to his interest in the given subject nor was he particularly popular among his peers, due to his bad temper. For Sallow, the Followers were never an inspiring example, their devotion to scholarship too stifling, and their mission of enlightenment too naive. |
Bill Calhoun | None | In 2246, Bill Calhoun and Edward Sallow were sent east by the Followers of the Apocalypse to study tribal dialects. They met a Mormon missionary named Joshua Graham who already knew the languages, and together embarked on a journey to the region known formerly as Arizona. At some point in 2247, Graham, Calhoun, and Sallow were captured by the Blackfoot tribe and were held for ransom. At the time the tribe was at war with seven other tribes, a war they were inevitably going to lose. Unwilling to be destroyed along with them, and against the wishes of his companions, Sallow chose to use his knowledge to train the Blackfoot tribe in the art of warfare after witnessing their lack of knowledge first hand. He quickly impressed them enough to the point where he was made their leader, conquering other nearby tribes. When Sallow gave himself the title of Caesar and began the expansion of his Legion in earnest, Joshua Graham decided to join him as his right-hand man, becoming the "Malpais Legate." Caesar sent Calhoun back to the Followers to inform them of the events, and with a warning not to interfere. |
