The Forgers are the titular main protagonists of the Spy × Family franchise.

They are a fake family created by the spy Twilight, under the alias "Loid Forger", as part of his espionage mission on the foreign country of Ostania.

History

In order to investigate the suspicious warmongering conspiracy orchestrated by the Ostania politician, Donovan Desmond, the Westalian Intelligence, also known as WISE, puts their best spy, Agent Twilight in an undercover mission on the country nicknamed "Operation Strix". Due to Donovan's reclusive nature, only going on public during mainly school-related events of his children, the operation involves the adoption of a child and the tuition on the elite Ostanian school Eden College, where Donovan's sons study, in order to get Twilight closer to his target and uncover his plans. Once in Ostania, Twilight, now under the alias of "Loid Forger", adopts a little girl called Anya to be his daughter. Unbeknownst to him, Anya is actually an esper, product of a failed experiment, and is fully aware of Loid's spy background and his intentions with her after reading his mind on their first meeting. Because of that, Anya "voluntarily" follows his plans of achieving peace between the two nations, while also looking up and loving her foster father.

Loid would later on get married to Yor Briar, who he met at the tailor while getting Anya some new clothes. Yor was city hall worker who had a secret job as an assassin for an organization known as The Garden, under the alias "Thorn Princess". While trying to maintain her double life, Yor was constantly pressured by her friends and her brother alike to get a boyfriend. After meeting Loid, Yor forms a pact with him in which he would pretend to be her boyfriend at a party if she pretended to be Anya's mother at their tuition interview at Eden College. After the party however, Yor proposes the idea of marrying him on paper in order to better fake their relationship both to her friends, as well as to the school, to which Loid agrees. This ultimately kickstarts the events of the series which follows the Forgers as they go through their various endeavours all the while Loid is focused on completing his mission.

Members

• Loid Forger/Twilight: The family's father and a spy who works at the Westalian intelligence who's known for being a master of disguises. According to him, he had abandoned his real identity a long time ago in favor of his job, and only goes by his spy name "Twilight". Despite that, he has gone under multiple aliases for his missions, "Loid Forger" being just one of them. He adopts Anya and marries Yor for the sake of his undercover mission on Ostania, putting his foster daughter on the same school as Damian Desmond, the youngest son of his target, Donovan Desmond. As his "Loid" persona, the spy puts on a more laid-back and friendly façade in order to avoid suspicion. He also adopted a job at the Berlint General Hospital as a psychiatrist, which he uses as a front for his mission. Despite normally putting himself as a cold, calculative spy, Twilight is shown to actually be quite affectionate towards his family, although he tries to hide and deny it, with him slowly developing real feelings for them throughout the series.
• Yor Forger/Thorn Princess: The family's mother and an assassin for the Ostanian organization "The Garden". She started off her job as an assassin at a very young age in order to provide for her younger brother, Yuri, and since then, has kept her second life a secret while working at the Berlint City Hall. She meets Loid accidentally at their tailor and married him in order to maintain her assassin job a secret from her friends and her brother and also help him put Anya in Eden College (which he falsely told her was his "dead wife's last wish"). She quickly becomes attached to the little girl and constantly tries her best to be a good mother to her. She also starts to slowly developing romantic feelings towards Loid, but decides to keep them to herself in order to not ruin their supposed "platonic" marriage. Despite her gruesome job, Yor is actually a very sweet and kind, albeit ditzy, person, but will sometimes show some violent tendencies which are a part of her assassin training, especially when she's drunk.
• Anya Forger: The family's young daughter. Anya was an orphan who was an accidental product of an experiment that gave her mind-reading powers. She had been adopted by various families before being taken under Loid's wing, but was returned every single time. Due to her esper abilities, she's well aware of her parents' secret identities, but that does not make her love any less. In fact, Anya is a huge fan of spies and especially of a cartoon called Spy Wars, and because of that, she really looks up to her father Loid. Anya is a cheerful and bubbly girl who only wants to finally live a happy life with her family and also tries her best in helping her father on Operation Strix, by doing her part at Eden College.
• Yuri Briar: The only blood relative of the Forgers, Yuri is Yor's younger brother and Loid's brother-in-law. Much like all of the members of the Forger family, Yuri also has a secret he hides from the majority of his loved ones, that being his job at the State Security Service, the counterintelligence military of Ostania. He's dedicated to capturing spies on Ostanian territory and bringing them to justice, Agent Twilight being his primary target and self-proclaimed archenemy, due to his legendary status as a spy. Ironically, Yuri isn't actually aware that Twilight is living right under his nose as his sister's husband. Despite that, Yuri has a certain distain for Loid due to him being jealous of his relationship with Yor, who he has a huge obsession with and does everything on his way to protect her. Yuri is a reoccurring antagonist of the series, serving the role of a comedic foil to the Forgers.
• Loid & Yor's parents: Although the manga does mention Yor and Loid's parents, it's stated that they are all out of the picture. Yor's parents and Loid's mother are confirmed to be casualties of the war between Westalis and Ostania that took place prior to the events of the series. Loid's father is also implied to be a victim of the war, though his death has yet to be confirmed. Had they lived, they would have been considered Anya's grandparents.

Allies

• Franky Franklin: Loid's sidekick and a WISE informant. He's a huge family friend of the Forgers, especially Loid, oftentimes being responsible for faking paperwork and documents (such as Yor and Loid's marriage certificate and Anya's adoption papers) as well as being a "fun uncle" figure for Anya.
• Henry Henderson: Anya's teacher and one of Eden College's inspectors. He's shown to have a soft spot for the family, even going as far as helping them on their admission exams. Besides that, he's shown to be a strict, albeit kind figure on Anya's school life.
• Becky Blackbell: The daughter of the CEO of Blackbell industries and Anya's classmate. Becky is Anya's best friend who she constantly hangs out with. Becky is also shown to have a crush on her father Loid.

• Damian Desmond: The son of Donovan Desmond and another one of Anya's classmate. He's Anya's former bully-turned-friendly rival who has a rocky relationship with the Forger's daughter. Despite this, Damian has a crush on her, but is unwilling to admit it.

• Sigmund Authen: He is the new neighbor of the Forgers who just moved in with his wife. He is a retired university professor and mentors Anya during exam times. He also sees Anya as his granddaughter and deeply cares for her.

Trivia

• Their surname "Forger" comes from the word "forgery", a small nod to the fabricated nature of the family.
• Originally, Franky was going to act as Anya's uncle, possibly pretending to be Loid's brother. This idea was scrapped, but Franky still remained as a family friend, being something of an uncle figure to Anya.
  • However, in the anime, before Loid met Yor, Franky actually volunteered to cross-dress in order to pretend to be Anya's mother on the Eden College interview.
• Many fans have pointed out that Loid and Yor's relationship resembles the plot of the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, with both of them being a married couple of agents of opposing sides, although in their case, both of their agencies have similar objectives of stopping the Ostanian and Westalian war.
