But, kind priest. Have you forgotten what you yourself said? If I am innocent, our Lord shall protect me. Oh, kind, kind priest. Have you run out of trials to put me through? Let’s see, there is one thing I would like to check on: now that I have weathered these trials by ordeal without suffering any harm, what are you supposed to do with me?
~ Fräulein Kreutune during the Witch Trials.
Thank you so much.
~ Fräulein thanking Fremea and Last Order and reaffirming their friendship.

Fräulein Kreutune is a major character in the A Certain Magical Index franchise.

She is a mysterious and immortal woman who has existed for decades and was imprisoned in the Windowless Building by Aleister Crowley until being freed by Touma Kamijou and Thor. She later befriends Fremea Seivelun and Last Order.

Appearance[]

Fräulein Kreutune appears a tall, young woman with long, unkempt silver hair and blue eyes. She wears a two-piece white transparent dress that reveals her pink panties and bra underneath.

After eating Cendrillon's fake Last Order, Fräulein turns into a little girl.

Personality[]

Fräulein Kreutune is an extremely enigmatic individual who initially had no visible personality outside of her seemingly boundless curiosity and desire to absorb or process information. Any traits she exhibits is a result of her mimicking others. She is shown to be incapable of carrying out complex thoughts or displaying strong emotions. She has no concept of like or dislike and is mainly driven by pure curiosity rather than any sense of ideology.

Moreover, Fräulein is utterly stoic and taciturn, only talking when someone directly speaks to her, as shown when she introduced herself to Last Order and Fremea Seivelun. However, she is later shown to be able to carry out a full conversation. Additionally, Fräulein isn't actually hostile or malicious as she only attacks when she's provoked or deems someone as a threat. She's also generally quite benign, as shown by her interactions with Fremea and Last Order, becoming incredibly attached to them. Fräulein is somewhat naïve and socially inept, most likely due to being trapped in the Windowless Building for so long, and seemingly having no memories.

Despite this, Fräulein is shown to be deeply loyal and caring towards her friends. She even displays some self-loathing when she is driven by her instinct to try to eat Last Order, calling herself a monster for not being able to resist and realizes she can't even commit suicide or be killed, since she can't be harmed. After the events of the Ichihanaransai, openly declares that Last Order and Fremea are her friends. She also develops a habit of hugging people after being hugged by Fremea and Last Order, believing it to be how friends normally act towards each other.

Biography[]

Fräulein Kreutune's origins are largely unexplained and practically shrouded in mystery. Not even Fräulein herself can remember her past or her real name. What is known though is that she has existed since the Middle Ages and possibly longer than that. Throughout her long history, Fräulein became a legend and multiple theories spread regarding her origins.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Humanoid Physiology: Fräulein Kreutune is a queer existence. She physically appears human and genetically can't be called anything but a normal human. However, she has displayed several inhuman traits. The natural assumption would be that she's a Gemstone, but several characters express doubt over this idea. Touma Kamijou is unwilling to touch her in case she's something like Hyouka Kazakiri.

  • Immortality: Fräulein's most notable trait is her seemingly absolute immortality. She has existed since the witch hunts in the Middle Ages and has lived for over hundreds if not thousands of years all while retaining her youth, making her ageless. Moreover, she's unable to die of natural causes, sickness, or even unnatural causes such as murder or suicide.
    • Invulnerability: Fräulein is shown to be completely invulnerable and nearly unkillable. According to medieval records, she was unable to be killed or even harmed by any form of torture, including decapitation, hanging, burning, crushing, drowning, etc. She seemingly doesn't feel any pain when she's attacked and also appears to have a resistance to poison. This unique durability of Fräulein and her characteristic of being neither a magician or an esper is what attracted Gremlin to her for their plans. Although she is practically invulnerable to conventional methods and not even powerful magicians like Leivinia Birdway can kill her using brute force, very skilled magicians may be able to find a way to kill her. For example, Leivinia thought she would be able to make Fräulein transform into a form that could be killed, and she thought that Aleister Crowley should also be able to do the same, but had chosen not to, perhaps to avoid definitively revealing his identity to the world. Similarly, Thor thought that Ollerus and Othinus would be able to calculate a way to kill her.
    • Self-Sustenance: Fräulein apparently doesn't need air, food or water to survive and is never shown to be malnourished.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: In addition to her invulnerability, Fräulein is able to regenerate almost instantaneously. She could reset her spine after rotating her upper body three times and being bent into an L-shape. She's resistant to damage, but even if she's hurt it doesn't really matter because she'll apparently just regenerate.
  • Information Absorption: Fräulein's main ability is to absorb the information in her current environment and optimize her body. She has very basic "yes or no" thought patterns, described as being simpler than an insect. However, she's an incredibly fast learner and is able to assimilate any kind of info instantly. This ranges from simple observation to outright full mimicry, rapidly becoming even better than the person she's mimicking.
    • Reactive Adaptation: Fräulein is able to modify herself and rapidly adapt to the environment using the information she's accumulates. Once she's absorbed enough information, her thought patterns will evolve from continuous and simple to more complex and flexible. In the process of that growth, she will likely experience a great change. However, this "eclosion" holds the potential of reversing the position of hunter and prey between her and humanity. However, she can shorten this time by accessing massive amounts of information. For example, upon coming in contact with the Misaka Network, Fräulein evolved the ability to eat a human’s brain and reproduce the brain’s structure within herself to acquire its properties. According to Aleister Crowley, it would take about 2300 years for her to become the Ultimate Life Form at her current rate of development, but if she were to eat Last Order's brain and gain complete access to the Misaka Network, it would take a mere 3 seconds.
    • Bioelectromagnetic Tracking: While chasing after Last Order, Fräulein grew an organ similar to that of the shark's ampullae of Lorenzini, which allows her to track electromagnetic signals through air, in this case the Misaka Network, by perceiving the massive amount of signals being transmitted as variations of pressure to estimate the location of the network's control tower, Last Order.
    • Information Eating: Perhaps as an extension of her ability to absorb information, Fräulein was capable of seeing and interacting with Hisako Yakumi after she became an information life form with no physical body. Fräulein was capable of eating Hisako's body, taking away over 30% of her existence with a single bite.
  • Micro Substance Insertion: Fräulein can insert a microscopic substance inside a target, which immediately affects it. If the target is organic, it will cause it to faint and receive damage, due to the effects that exhibit characteristics similar to an organ transplant rejection. If the target is inorganic, the substance expands from within, tearing it apart, which is how she destroyed the Windowless Building's Calculate Fortress.
