Frealaf is the nephew of Helm Hammerhand and the tenth king of Rohan.
Biography[]
Born in T.A. 2728, he was the son of Hild, sister of King Helm. In T.A. 2758, Rohan was attacked by the Dunlendings, the pirates of Umbar, and the Easterlings. Defeated, the surviving Rohirrim took refuge in the valleys of the White Mountains. Frealaf took refuge in Dunharrow and in the spring of T.A. 2759, with a company of fearless warriors, captured and killed Wulf, the leader of the Dunlendings, at Edoras. That year, the snows began to melt after the Great Winter, forcing the enemies of Rohan to retreat. At the same time, troops came from Gondor to help, and by the end of the year the territories of Rohan were liberated. Since King Helm and his heirs had perished in the war, Frealaf was crowned the new King of Rohan in the same year (T.A. 2759). The wizard Saruman also came to his coronation, praising the Rohirrim, and was greeted with joy. Saruman soon occupied Isengard, which Frealaf was pleased with, considering the wizard a powerful ally.
Frealaf died in 2798 T.A. and with him began a new line of kings, as representatives of the second branch of the House of Eorl. The crown was inherited by Frealaf's son, Brytta.
