Franklin Storm is a major character in the 2015 science-fiction film and reboot Fantastic Four. He is a scientist and the director of the Baxter Foundation who recruits Reed Richards to work with a team on the Quantum Gate project.
He was portrayed by the late Reg E. Cathey.
History[]
Franklin Storm first appears with his daughter Susan when he discovers Reed Richards' teleportation engine. Surprised, he congratulates the teenager for teleporting matter to another dimension. Professor Storm offers to fund Reed's work, and Reed goes to the Baxter Foundation to work on Storm's project. During a discussion with the government agents, Storm says that he will make sure that Victor Von Doom does not cause problems. He adds that he is betting everything on the teenagers he will bring together.
Afterwards, he goes to Victor's apartment where he tries to convince him to join the project. Victor coldly replies that he won't work for him and that Storm is just a pawn of his employers. As Storm begins to walk away, Victor asks if Susan will be there and the man replies yes. Later, Victor arrives at the lab with Professor Storm, which seems to displease Susan. While they are looking at Reed's research diagrams, the latter comes to meet Victor accompanied by Susan. When the group talks about the other dimension, Storm suggests that it could help the world on Earth. He adds that the team needs to make this portal work and "fix the mistakes" made by his generation. In the evening, Storm comes to pick up her son Johnny, who has had an accident in a car race. He argues with him for his rebellious attitude and he tells him that to get his car back he will have to work on the project with the others.
The next time we see Professor Storm again is during a chimpanzee teleportation test. The test is a success and Dr. Allen congratulates Reed's team. He disappoints them, however, when he announces that NASA will take over the project. Storm walks away promising them to change things. Later in the film, we see Storm again discovering that the group of teenagers have undergone mutations following a trip with the quantum portal gone wrong. He is very reluctant to the idea of Allen using them as weapons, but he has no choice. He also hopes that they can go back to how they used to be if they do this. When Reed is brought back to the lab, Storm talks to Johnny who refuses to lose his powers. He also unfairly blames him for becoming that and says he can make his decisions on his own.
Later, Reed repairs the gate and scientists return to the other dimension. Professor Storm and everyone else discover that Victor survived the incident and he is taken back to the lab to be questioned by Allen. However, Victor has become hungry for revenge and power and begins killing everyone in his path to get back to the gate. He is intercepted by Storm who tries to convince him to stay. He explains that humans are stronger together and Victor retorts that he has always been alone. As the portal activates, Victor ruthlessly kills Storm who falls to the ground. He is approached by Susan and Johnny and he asks them to watch over each other before he die. His children keep their promise and they fight Victor/Doom and stop him from destroying the Earth.
