Franky Franklin also known as "Scruffy" is a major character in the Spy × Family franchise.
He's an informant in Ostania who runs a tobacco store and frequently helps Loid Forger in his mission, by collecting information and data in order to forward Operation Strix and maintain the Forgers' disguise as a legitimate family.
He was voiced by Hiroyuki Yoshino, who also voiced Present Mic in My Hero Academia, Hōka Inumuta in Kill la Kill and Isidro in Berserk Millennium Empire Arc: Chapter of the Holy Demon War in Japanese and Anthony Bowling in English.
Appearance[]
Franky is a short young man with a square face with stubbly beard and an afro haircut. He uses a pair of big red, square glasses and a single earring in his left ear.
His outfit consists of a white dress shirt with an orange tie (green in the colored manga) and blue trousers with suspenders. He also has brown shoes and orange-striped white socks.
Personality[]
Franky is a laid-back and carefree individual who's always seeking to help Loid by any means necessary. He's shown to be genuinely kind and especially good with kids (although he doesn't usually enjoy taking care of them), usually being the one who takes care of Anya whenever Loid and Yor aren't available. On the flip side, he's very money-driven and usually expects payment for his actions. Franky is also constantly trying to find ways to get a girlfriend and will fall in love with women often. He will oftentimes cross the line and abuse his informant abilities in order to stalk girls, which Loid reprimands him for.
According to his own words, Franky is not on anybody's side. Despite being an Ostanian himself, he's critical of the country's government and its oppressive regime, which is the reason why he oftentimes helps WISE. Franky considers himself somewhat of a rebel and, by his own admission, enjoys causing trouble from time to time.
Trivia[]
- In the original draft of the series, Franky was intended to act as Anya's uncle, possibly while pretending to be Loid's brother. This idea was scrapped, but it seemed like his relationship with Anya stayed relatively the same.
- Despite helping Loid constantly, Franky is NOT officially a member of WISE. However, the organization considers him an important ally as he also will sometimes work together with Fiona Frost.
- In Chapter 60, it's revealed that "Franky Franklin" is actually just an alias, meaning that his real name remains unknown.
- Franky can be considered somewhat of a mascot for Tatsuya Endo, as he usually appears in the Volume Extras serving as the author's mouthpiece for behind the scenes information.
- Franky was primarily based off the character Mozzie, from the American TV drama series White Collar, who was the sidekick of Neal Caffrey, similarly to his relationship with Loid.
- Franky's hair is naturally curly and he sometimes uses it to hide hearing devices.
- Franky sometimes does charity work to support victims of the war and other related causes like landmine removal.
- The chair he sits in the cover of Volume 8 is a Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames.
