Biography[]
Franziska von Karma is the prosecutor of the second game, as well as the daughter of Manfred von Karma and adopted sister to Miles Edgeworth (whom she refers to as her "little brother" despite being seven years his junior). She is regarded as a prosecuting genius — she became a prosecutor at the age of 13 and her win record in her homeland of Germany is spotless. She intends to bring her brand of prosecution to meet Phoenix Wright in court. Franziska is an extreme perfectionist and rarely seen without her trademark whip, which she uses to intimidate and punish those around her.
Story[]
Franziska von Karma was born and raised in Germany (or the United States, in the Japanese version.) She studied to be a prosecutor, like her father. She was considered a prodigy, becoming a prosecutor at 13.
By age 18 she was very well known and respected. She came to the United States (Japan in the Japanese version) out of a desire to best Phoenix Wright, wanting to prove herself better than her father, Manfred, and her brother, Miles Edgeworth. Despite her efforts, she lost, and her perfect winning streak was spoiled, a fact which she refused to accept.
Before her third trial against Phoenix Wright, Franziska was shot by Shelley de Killer, an assassin who wanted to do Wright a "favor" by weakening his opposition. Although she attempted to continue the trial, she was taken to the hospital and Edgeworth took her place as prosecutor. Following a recovery, she returned to deliver new evidence, helping Edgeworth win the case.
After the trial, she was shocked to find neither Edgeworth nor Wright cared about "winning" or "losing" the case, in contrast to her own ideology that winning matters more than anything else. In response, she left the country, swearing to return.
When Phoenix Wright got hospitalized after trying to cross a burning bridge, Miles Edgeworth replaced Wright as Iris' defense attorney while Wright recovered and called Franziska to prosecute her so he could avoid getting noticed as a prosecutor and to replace Godot who was also missing. When Phoenix Wright recovered and came to investigate, she accompanied him so he could interview Sister Bikini and investigate the other side of the rebuilt bridge. She assisted in the search for Maya during the trial of Iris. Alongside Bikini she found Iris instead, while Dahlia Hawthorne was impersonating her while being unknowingly channeled by Maya.
