Zone is the stalkers. Stalkers are freedom. Be a stalker till the end, join Freedom!
~ Propaganda

Freedom is one of the two tritagonists, alongside Duty of the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

Freedom is paramilitary anarchistic group, driven by ideological motives. They are the ideological rivals of Duty.

History[]

At some point, two stalkers, Chekhov and Shchukin organized an anarchistic movement they called "Freedom" whose goal, in contrast to and already existent fraction, Duty and their goal-destroy the Zone, Freedom's goal is to made the Zone free, free from law and free from authority, that people need to co-exist with the Zone and not to destroy it.

In 2011, Freedom was located at the Old Factory in the Dark Valley and were the biggest stalker clan in the Zone. Freedom were engage in the Fraction War, a event emerged due to territorial changes caused by emission. Particularly with their rivals, Duty but also by mercenaries in the Dark Valley, their base location. Eventually, in exchange for valuable information, Scar, helped Freedom defeat the mercenaries. It was reviled that Shchukin, the co-founder of Freedom and Chekhov, the leader's right-hang was a traitor who betrayed Freedom by leaking information to the mercenaries. Despite their attempted, it remained unknown who paid or hired the mercenaries to destroy Freedom.

At some point before the events of Shadow Of Chernobyl, Chekhov decided to move the fraction to an another place, the Military Warehouses. Chekhov eventually was replaced by Mikluha, who later organized a raid to the center of the Zone, which resulted in his disappearance. The group of Freedom fighters in Prypiat are implied to be that same team Mikluha organized, since those fighters are there since the start of the game.

In 2012, in Mikluha's absence, Lukash took the leadership. Lukash's rule was strong, almost military-like, Freedom became much stronger than they were before, taking over strategically important locations, such as the Barrier. Chekhov maybe took the Military Base, but Lukash spread Freedom's influence and authority. But even then, a snitch appeared within them, that leaked information to the mercenaries. Lukash, unlike Chekhov who didn't saw the betrayal of his right-hand, dealt with the snitch and mercenaries before it escalated.

After Strelok opened the path to the central, and let stalkers freely roam the infamous central of the Zone. Freedom and Duty organize a "neutral" relationship at the Yanov Station, fighting for influence over Yanov.
