You just dropped the Moby f**king D*ck of problems on my plate. That's what I think.
~ Frenchie to Billy Butcher, his most famous quote.
Life has always been hard, but I don’t remember it being quite this crude.
~ Frenchie

Serge, also known as Frenchie is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Mother's Milk and The Female) of Amazon Prime's The Boys franchise. He is a member of the vigilante group, The Boys.

Frenchie's skillsets are an invaluable resource to Butcher and The Boys, but his impulsive decisions are an eternal source of frustration to Mother's Milk's group. The Boys the other being The Female of the Species. He is described as having a strong connection with both Female and Billy, however, he has killer instincts and his anger is hard to reign in once provoked.

He is portrayed by Tomer Kapon.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Serge was presumably born in France to unnamed parents, and grew up in a harsh environment due to his father being bipolar. He once recalled a time his father attempted to kill him with a Hello Kitty quilt when he was ten, and when he later kidnapped by him to keep him away from his mother. At some point in time, Serge moved to New York and was put into a homeless shelter, and found comfort in watching The Golden Girls. He later became friends with Cherie and Jay, and the group spent their time doing drugs or performing heists. Due to his natural talent in the fields of chemistry and engineering, Serge was able to fight against supes if they encountered when performing crimes. Around this time, he also became affiliated with the head of the Russian mafia, Little Nina.

Joining the Boys[]

When performing a bank heist, Serge was caught and brought into custody, but his actions gained the attention of CIA officer Grace Mallory. Knowing the threat that Vought-International and supes posed, Mallory offered Serge a chance to work for her due to his ability to create gadgets. Serge initially rejected her offer, but relented when she threatened to send Cherie and Jay to jail with him. Becoming the newest member of the team referred to as "The Boys", Serge met his teammates William "Billy" Butcher and Mother's Milk, and started to go by name "Frenchie" by that time. The team was tasked by Mallory to investigate the Seven, Vought's premier superhero team due to the vast corruption with the company.

In 2015, the team were able to blackmail Lamplighter, a member of the Seven, to become their informant. Following their meeting, Grace became suspicious of the supes behavior and tasked Frenchie with watching him. While keeping an eye on the informant, Frenchie was contacted by Cherie, who explained that Jay had overdosed. Despite his order, Frenchie left his post and saved Jay, but at the cost of Lamplighter killing Mallory's grandchildren. As a result, Mallory became heartbroken over her loss and the Boys were disbanded as a rift developed between Frenchie and Mother's Milk.

Season One[]

Five years later, Frenchie reunites with Butcher, whom has decided to restart the Boys to get his revenge against Homelander after recruiting Hughie Campbell. Billy explains that they have Translucent in their trunk, and he needs his help in hiding the supe and finding a way to kill him. Despite his reluctance, Frenchie agrees and constructs a carbon-made bullet to kill Translucent, but this fails due to his impenetrable skin. When trying to find a new way to kill the supe, Frenchie watches a documentary with a turtle, and comes to the conclusion that Translucent can be killed by placing a bomb into his rear. After placing the bomb into Translucent, the supe attempts to negotiate with the Boys by giving them information on A-Train's location when he killed Robin Ward.

Before they can get any more information, Homelander is nearby looking for his teammate, so Frenchie and Butcher leave Hughie with the detonator while they get the supe away from the area. After getting Homelander off the scent, Frenchie and Billy return to their base and discover that Hughie killed Translucent with the bomb. Hughie is congratulated for killing a member of the Seven, but Butcher reminds him that he can't walk away from this since he killed "America's sweetheart". Later on, Butcher brings Mother's Milk back to the team, causing the tension between him and Frenchie to resurface. Despite this, the two worked together to watch A-Train's girlfriend Popclaw, as they learn she has doses of Compound V. Witnessing her accidently kill her landlord, the Boys enter her apartment and blackmail her to give them information on the compound.

Popclaw reveals that A-Train goes to a noodle shop with the compound, and the team discover a woman held captive in the basement. Frenchie frees her, causing the woman to massacre the guards before attempting to kill him, Hughie and Mother's Milk. The trio survive as the woman escapes, and Frenchie decides to focus on finding the girl. Once meeting up with Butcher, they are able to find her being attacked by A-Train, but Frenchie reveals the supes location to get his attention away from the Female. Before she can kill Frenchie, Butcher knocks him and her out with gas, bringing them back to their hideout.

While the others continue their investigation, Frenchie tries to bond with the Female, whom initially rebuffs his attempts. Later on, Frenchie convinces Mother's Milk to bring Mesmer in to learn more about the Female, and discover that she was created to be a supe terrorist. With the revelation that Compound V gives supes their powers, the Boys deduce that Vought-International is creating supe terrorist to force the government to put supes into the military. However, their investigation is halted when they are made by the Seven, as Mesmer sold them out to Homelander. Following this, Frenchie, the Female and Mother's Milk are captured by Vought's Black Ops troops, leaving Hughie to rescue them since Butcher has turned his attention to getting revenge on Homelander.

Season Two[]

Having been falsely labeled terrorists by Vought, the Boys go into hiding from the public as Hughie has Starlight act as the team's informant. While hiding from the authorities, Frenchie has made a deal with the Haitian Kings, allowing them to remain obscure while doing business with them. The team learn of a supe terrorist that attacked the gang, and meet with CIA director Susan Raynor, whose heads suddenly explodes. After escaping from the scene, the group watch the footage of the terrorist killing gang members by using telekinesis. Eventually, Butcher returns to lead the Boys, as they've been assigned to capture the supe terrorist. When preparing to capture the terrorist, it's revealed that it's the Female's brother Kenji, and Hughie stops Butcher from killing him. When confronting their team leader, Billy reveals that his wife Becca is alive, being kept in a secret community since she is raising Homelander's son Ryan.

Once capturing Kenji, the Boys are confronted by the police and later the Deep, who attempts to stop the team to earn favor with the Seven. The group manage to escape from the Deep and Homelander, but Kenji is killed by Stormfront, the newest member of the Seven. Noticing the Female's vengeance, Frenchie stops her from attacking Stormfront at a rally, and later learns that she is working for the mob to kill targets. He attempts to reason with the Female, but becomes angry at her since he is unable to use sign language. Despite this, Frenchie and the Female are able to reconcile, and she starts to teach him sign language. Returning to the team, the group work with Starlight to infiltrate the Sage Grove hospital to get information on Stormfront. While there, Frenchie confronts Lamplighter, which causes their cover to be blown. During the fight, the imprisoned supes are freed their cells, causing the Boys to hide in a room from the chaos.

During the confrontation, Frenchie reveals what happened the night he left his post, and Lamplighter explains that he was tasked with killing Grace, but instead killed her grandchildren. The group are then able to escape with Lamplighter's assistance, who has agreed to work with them. Meeting with Mallory, Frenchie is able to convince her to not kill Lamplighter, as they can have him testify against Vought. The team's fail are foiled, however, as Lamplighter commits suicide when helping Hughie rescue Starlight and mother, but Butcher is able to intimidate Jonah Vogelbaum to testify. This is planned is also foiled, as an unidentified supe kills Vogelbaum and other people by exploding their heads.

While looking for ways to take down Vought, A-Train gives Hughie and Starlight documents on Stormfront's past with the Nazi Party, thus tarnishing her reputation. Becca soon arrives, asking for Butcher's assistance to save Ryan from Homelander and Stormfront, and the group agree to help them. The Boys manage to rescue Ryan, but Stormfront arrives and attempts to kill them, but she escapes after being pummeled by the Female, Queen Maeve, and Starlight. Stormfront is then defeated by Ryan, and Butcher adopts him after promising he would to a dying Becca.

Season Three[]

A year after Stormfront's defeat, Frenchie and the Female's relationship has blossomed as they continue to help Butcher take down corrupt supes. Due to Hughie's position within the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs, Campbell tells his former teammates to not t kill or torture the target. Frenchie, the Female and Butcher watch the supe known as Termite accidently murder his partner, and manage to capture him when he attempts to escape. Afterward, Frenchie assists Butcher in locating Crimson Countess, a former member of Payback and attends Voughtland with Kimiko.

Season Four[]

Despite their significant intimate development together, Frenchie and Kimiko resolve to be only friends; it isn't clear if one or both decided upon this change.

Personality[]

I carry... I carry them all with me. It's like scars in a way, you know?
~ Frenchie to Hughie Campbell.

Frenchie is seemingly the most intelligent member of the group, with the widest skill-set. He is a multi-talented criminal with knowledge of many criminal endeavors, whether it's producing drugs, smuggling weapons, breaking and entering, break-ins and lying to authorities. He's so talented at the latter that he was able to flawlessly fool Homelander, despite his great power.

Otherwise, Frenchie has many of his own endearing personality traits and idiosyncrasies starting with his transitions from quiet unassuming mellowness to overly energetic ferocity. He is considerably kind to those he considers friends and to any who appear kind themselves, but rude or particularly aggressive and mean people can tend to earn his ire the character undergoing somewhat of a transformation in attitude and demeanor typically signaled by the repositioning of his goggles. Conversely, Frenchie is essentially considered insane and this is also a likely factor behind some of his tall tales or exaggerations, although all appear in good nature.

While seeming to generally carry himself in a carefree manner, he actually suffers from intense mental anguish, mostly centred around trauma about his past actions and inactions. He felt incredible guilt in not preventing Lamplighter's murder of Mallory's grandchildren, and projected this guilt into more rage at Lamplighter himself; although, upon seeing how Lamplighter deeply regrets his crime, and learning that the children were accidental casualties, Frenchie reached a sense of acceptance in knowing the killer was already more miserable than anything he could hurt or kill him.

Frenchie also carries intense guilt and remorse for his former work as a hitman, which contributed towards making his existing drug addiction far worse, as he desperately sought ways to escape his sorrow; however, the opposite effect can happen, with his victims appearing as phantoms to haunt him with the responsibility for their deaths.

Abilities[]

Frenchie is a multi-talented criminal and former associate of Butcher’s, as he is the one who provides expertise on drugs, weapons, and break-ins. Likewise, he is quite talented at many kinds of criminal skills, whether it's producing drugs, smuggling weapons, breaking and entering, or lying to authorities. Frenchie is the most intelligent member of the group, with the widest skill-set. He was specifically recruited for his knack for coming up with ways to counter supes's abilities.

Quotes[]

I know a little about a lot of things. I'm a gunrunner by trade, but, as you can see, I've developed a certain niche.
~ Frenchie.
Always chases Road Runner, always with an elaborate plan, always fails. You know, I always say, "Why do this, Coyote? All you need is an AR-15, and 'meep meep' no more.
~ Frenchie to Butcher.
