Friar Lawrence is the overarching protagonist of William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet. He is a Priest living in the Verona monastery.
He was played by Pete Postlethwaite, who also plays Roland Tembo in Jurassic Park II in 1996, Paul Giamatti, who also plays Chet in Turbo in the 2013 version.
Biography[]
The Friar first appears during act 2, as Romeo decides to request he wed him and Juliet, the friar suggesting he is acting rashly, but agrees, hoping the wedding will end the feud between the Montague and Capulet families. He gives a potion to allow Juliet to fake a death so she can avoid getting married to Paris. He unsuccessfully tried to inform Romeo about it and as a result, he and Paris died in a duel and Juliet killed herself for real after waking up.
