Fritz Reiser is one of the main protagonists in the 1993 Anti War film, Stalingrad. He was a German Army Corporal during the Battle Of Stalingrad. He was portayed by Dominique Horwitz.
In the early draft of the film, Fritz Reiser and his Sergeant, Manfred "Rollo" Rohleder, are transferred to a new Battalion under the command of Lieutenant Hans Von Witzland. The Battalion is then posted to the Battle Of Stalingrad. Upon arrival, Fritz Reiser sees the horrors of war and the tragic loss of human life. He then forms a friendship with German Soldier Muller who he calls "GeGe". He then forms a friendship with a Russian boy named Koyla. At one point in the film, Fritz Reiser and Hans Von Witzland save some wounded Russian Soldiers during a temporary cease-fire. Later in the film, Reiser and his friends are placed under arrested by the film's antagonist, Hauptmann Haller. Then, Reiser and Witzland and the rest of the platoon are put into action to hold off a Russian Tank column and emerge victorious after a fierce battle with Russian T-34 Tanks. Then, Hauptmann Haller orders an execution of Russian Civilians and forces the men he arrested to do it. Then in the film, Reiser and Witzland are with the rest of their squad and they are caught again by Hauptmann Haller, then Hauptmann Haller is pushed by Hans Von Witzland and shot by Rohleder and then Haller shoots GeGe and Reiser cries over GeGe's death. Then, Haller is shot dead by Witzland. Then, at the end of the film, Hans Von Witzland and Fritz Reiser try to surrender and then Hans is shot by the Soviets and mortally wounded. Then Hans dies of his wounds and then Reiser reflects on his time in the North Africa campaign before freezing to death in the snow.
