Frye Onaga is a major character in Splatoon 3. She is one of the members of Deep Cut (alongside Shiver and Big Man), with whom she hosts Anarchy Splatcast, revealing the current battle stages to the player as well as the Splatfest events, taking over the role that the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook had previously. She also secretly works as a bandit along with the rest of Deep Cut, searching for treasure in the Splatlands. She is also descended from a clan of eel trainers, as she is seen using eels in her boss fight in Return of the Mammalians, the single-player story mode of Splatoon 3. Despite being an antagonist for most of the story mode (along with the rest of her band), by the end she decides to side with the New Squidbeak Splatoon after Mr. Grizz threatens to end all sea life by spreading his Fuzzy Ooze over the planet.

Personality[]

Like Callie and Pearl beforehand, Frye is very energetic and peppy. Out of all of the members in Deep Cut she seems to be the most enthusiastic and bubbly, having exaggerated body language and talks expressively during Anarchy Splatcast, and usually overreacts whenever the Splatfest results come in.

She can also be somewhat abrasive or rude at times, such as taunting the New Squidbeak Splatoon in Return of the Mammalians and (trying to) be threatening towards them. However, after befriending Marie, who becomes her 'boss', she becomes friendlier towards the NSS, even helping them in taking down Mr. Grizz.

She is voiced by Laura Yokozawa.

Biography[]

Splatoon 3[]

Frye appears alongside her bandmates Shiver and Big Man whenever the player turns on the game to announce the current stages, along with news regarding Splatfests if there's one happening or already happened to announce the results.

She also has a major role in the single player campaign Return of the Mammalians, being one of the secondary antagonists, alongside Shiver and Big Man. At the end of the first site, Frye, along with the rest of Deep Cut, introduces themselves to the New Squidbeak Splatoon, with Frye claiming that "the Splatlands are [their] turf". Frye later appears as the boss of the second site, being the first member of Deep Cut to be fought. After her boss fight, the new Agent 3 claims the treasure owned by Frye. Later, when Agent 3 has successfully managed to defeat all three members of Deep Cut and has taken all of their treasure, the New Squidbeak Splatoon decide to combine their treasures into making a machine to trim away all of the Fuzzy Ooze blocking the way to the space shuttle where Craig Cuttlefish and Mr. Grizz are. After the Captain gets rid of all the ooze, Frye and the rest of her band appear again and try and threaten the NSS into giving them the treasure. Marie states that they're done with it and they can have it. Shocked by her kindness, Deep Cut feel bad for their previous antagonism towards the team and even call Marie their new boss. The trio appear again after the NSS find the dehydrated Cuttlefish and Mr. Grizz, offering to lend Agent 3 help to get to the rocket where Mr. Grizz is before he coats the Earth in his Fuzzy Ooze, which would effectively wipe out all sea life. Frye later sings the Calamari Inkantation 3Mix along with the Squid Sisters/Agents 1 and 2, and the rest of her trio, which has supernatural marine energy that transforms Agent 3's Smallfry into the Hugefry in order to fight and distract Mr. Grizz while Agent 3 and DJ Octavio vacuum up the ooze-covered fuzzballs on Grizz's body to weaken him and then fired the ooze back at him, thus saving the world.
