I don't need your sorrow or pity for anything I did of my own free will.
~ G'iah to Talos.
You killed my mother. My father. You're flailing. You're weak.
~ G'iah to Gravik.

G'iah is a supporting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe 2019 film Captain Marvel and the tritagonist of the 2023 Disney+ streaming miniseries Secret Invasion.

She is a Skrull radical, and the daughter of Talos and Soren. She was a follower of Gravik, the leader of the Skrull resistance, who stood in opposition to her father. After her parents' death, she opposed the resistance and defeated Gravik with her enhancements.

She was portrayed by Auden L. Ophuls and Harriet L. Ophuls in Captain Marvel, and by Emilia Clarke, (who also played Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, Qi'ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story and Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys) in Secret Invasion.

When disguised, she was portrayed by Irina Kara, Pavel Douglas and Samuel L. Jackson, who also played Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction, Zeus Carver in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and voiced Frozone in the Incredibles films and Afro Samurai in the titular anime.

Biography[]

Background[]

G'iah's father, Talos, served as a Skrull commander during their war against the Kree Empire. After the destruction of their home planet, Skrullos, G'iah, her mother, and numerous other Skrull survivors fled into the universe, seeking refuge from the Kree. By 1989, the refugees found an ally in Mar-Vell, a rogue Kree scientist. While Talos and his crew continued their search for a new home, his wife, daughter, and a group of refugees took shelter in Mar-Vell's laboratory hidden above Earth.

Tragically, before other Skrulls could learn the lab's location, Mar-Vell was assassinated, severing G'iah's connection with her father. For six years, the refugees lived quietly in the lab, where G'iah was raised by her mother, Soren. Meanwhile, Talos devoted himself to uncovering the truth about Mar-Vell's fate, hoping to reunite with his family.

Captain Marvel[]

In 1995, with assistance from humans Carol Danvers, Maria Rambeau, and Nick Fury, G'iah was finally reunited with Talos. However, their location was discovered by the Kree Starforce, sparking a fierce battle as the Skrulls and their human allies attempted to escape. The conflict ended when Danvers destroyed the Kree armada, ensuring their safety.

After the battle, the Skrull refugees were invited to the Rambeau residence for a meal with their rescuers. During the visit, G'iah formed a bond with Monica Rambeau, playing Uno and receiving the heartfelt advice to never hide her unique Skrull eyes. As the Skrulls deliberated their next steps, Carol Danvers offered to serve as their protector while they searched the universe for a new home. Grateful, the Skrulls agreed and departed Earth under Danvers' guidance, embarking on a new chapter in their journey.

Secret Invasion[]

G'iah learned that Beto had arrived at New Skrullos and went to the border to welcome him. She asked him to reveal his true Skrull form before driving him to their base. During the ride, G'iah offered Beto food, noticing he couldn’t recall his last meal. She explained that the food was from Skrullos, as New Skrullos only stocked their native cuisine. Beto gratefully ate and thanked her, and she responded with a smile.

At the base, G'iah introduced Beto to Gravik's sanctuary for Skrulls. As they reached the room containing the Fracking Pods, she instructed Beto to wait, assuring him that loyalty to Gravik would be rewarded. When Beto inquired about the room, she cryptically replied that it held "victory." Inside, G'iah witnessed Martin Wallace being replaced by Brogan.

Later, G'iah joined Beto in the cafeteria but was interrupted by Pagon, who tasked her with retrieving bombs from Vasily Poprishchin. G'iah observed the MI6 agents guarding the location before sneaking into Poprishchin’s gallery to retrieve the bombs. She ensured her escape was discreet and untraceable.

However, Maria Hill followed her into an underground area. Realizing this, G'iah attacked Hill, disarming her and escaping after throwing her to the ground. Talos then confronted G'iah at gunpoint, revealing that Gravik had killed her mother, Soren. Devastated, G'iah shoved Talos aside and left, later breaking down in a quiet place as she processed the news.

Returning to New Skrullos, G'iah delivered the bombs to Pagon, who praised her work. She suggested delaying the strike, but Pagon insisted they proceed, stating she had already provided the bait.

Agreeing to meet with Talos, G'iah disguised herself as an older woman and entered a cab driven by a disguised Talos. At a secluded location, G'iah confronted him about Soren’s death. Talos reiterated Gravik’s role in her murder. G'iah revealed Gravik’s plan to attack Vossoyedineniye Square the next day and mentioned her role in marking the bombs with infrared spray.

The following day, G'iah delivered the spray-painted bags to Vossoyedineniye Square, but the bags were decoys. Gravik detonated the real bombs, unleashing chaos. G'iah watched in horror before leaving the square with Gravik, secretly glaring at him as they got into a car together.

As G'iah drove Gravik to a meeting with the Skrull Council, she questioned how he knew Nick Fury would be at Vossoyedineniye Square. Gravik admitted it was a gamble, driven by a desire to see what remained of Fury. He mused about Fury’s decline before instructing her to bring him to the Council to witness their reaction to the attack. Upon arrival, Gravik handed G'iah a gun, ordering her to shoot the guard if he didn’t return within an hour.

G'iah waited outside and observed the Skrull impersonating Shirley Sagar leaving the meeting. Peering inside, she saw the Council submitting to Gravik’s authority. When Gravik exited, she returned the gun, and they departed together.

As G'iah and Gravik returned to New Skrullos, she observed the crowd of Skrulls applauding Gravik for orchestrating the bombing. Curious about Gravik's private discussions, G'iah discreetly followed Pagon into a room containing a large machine. There, Pagon informed the Skrulls impersonating Rosa and Victor Dalton that the Harvest had not yet been located but vowed to continue searching. After Pagon left, G'iah watched the Daltons test the machine.

Moving into another room, G'iah accessed a computer to investigate the Daltons' research. She discovered they were working on integrating DNA from Groot, a Frost Beast, Cull Obsidian, and Extremis. Gravik interrupted her, questioning what she was doing. G'iah quickly altered the display and claimed she was checking on Beto's progress. Her comment about Beto's loyalty led Gravik to share his initial distrust of her defection and his belief that Talos had sent her. Gravik then revealed that Brogan had been located and requested G'iah’s assistance in rescuing him.

At the FSB site where Brogan was held, G'iah was instructed to remain in the car with Beto while Gravik and Pagon executed the rescue. Claiming she needed to check the rear of the vehicle, G'iah declined Beto’s offer to join her, instead using the opportunity to alert authorities about the Skrulls’ planned safe house retreat. When the group later approached the safe house, they spotted law enforcement and diverted their course. Suspecting betrayal, Gravik blamed Brogan. G'iah parked the car in the woods and overheard Pagon executing Brogan for the perceived betrayal before they continued on their way.

Later, Gravik confronted G'iah about how Brogan could have leaked the location without knowing it. G'iah suggested that Brogan had guessed, casting doubt on Gravik’s assessment of Brogan’s strength. Gravik informed her they would leave early the next morning, leaving G'iah to process the tension alone.

The next day, G'iah accompanied Gravik to England, where she drove him to the National Portrait Gallery. During the ride, Gravik revealed that Talos had requested a meeting to discuss her. While Gravik took a call, disclosing plans for a Skrull attack on a UN plane that night, G'iah memorized the details on his burner phone. Disguised as an older man, she covertly handed the phone to Talos as he exited the meeting and reverted to her Skrull form before Gravik returned.

That night, Talos called G'iah, urging her to retrieve Bob Fairbanks’ launch termination password to thwart the attack. G'iah infiltrated Fairbanks’ location, subdued the guards, and extracted the password, "Zachary," from Fairbanks’ memories. She relayed the information to Talos and fled. On her way out, G'iah encountered Rosa Dalton in a pod, took her memories, and used the Super-Skrull Machine to enhance herself with superpowers.

Attempting to escape on a motorcycle, G'iah was intercepted by Gravik, who accused her of betraying the Skrull Resistance. When she refused to surrender, Gravik shot her and left her for dead. However, her Extremis-enhanced abilities allowed her to heal and survive.

G'iah reunited with Talos, sharing details of the night’s events. While Talos apologized, G'iah reaffirmed her commitment but criticized his lack of a clear plan for the Skrulls’ future. Frustrated with his reliance on human goodwill, G'iah stormed off after calling him delusional.

After Talos’ death, G'iah met Nick Fury at a location significant to both of them. She reflected on her childhood memories there and listened as Fury shared its history as a haven for displaced communities. When Fury attempted to console her, G'iah interrupted, acknowledging her grief and revealing her Super-Skrull transformation. Fury, understanding the stakes, entrusted her with information about the Harvest.

G'iah later brought Talos’ body to Varra, seeking her help to honor him. Together, they prepared a pyre, and G'iah placed Soren’s ring on Talos’ body as an offering. As they mourned, Varra comforted G'iah, who expressed regret for her harsh words to her father.

Their grieving was interrupted by a Skrull attack. G'iah and Varra armed themselves and fought back, eliminating several attackers. Afterward, Varra drove G'iah to safety and bid her farewell, warning her to remain cautious.

Fury called G'iah, signaling the time to end the conflict. Disguised as Fury, G'iah infiltrated New Skrullos, killing guards and reaching Gravik. Gravik, unaware of her true identity, activated the Super-Skrull Machine with both inside after acquiring the Harvest. Empowered by the machine, G'iah revealed herself and fought Gravik in a climactic battle. Using her newfound abilities, she ultimately killed Gravik, avenging her parents and Maria Hill's deaths. Not only that, the rest of the good Skrulls and humanity have also been avenged that he slaughtered, as well that Gravik's actions and his crimes have been exposed to the whole world.

After freeing the human hostages, G'iah was approached by Sonya Falsworth, who proposed an alliance to protect both humans and Skrulls. Though initially hesitant, G'iah agreed, understanding the necessity of cooperation. Together, they set out to confront the challenges ahead, with G'iah determined to lead her people toward a better future.
