G.U.N., sometimes unabbreviated as Guard, Unify, Nurture, are major characters in the Sonic the Comic Online! webcomic. They are an international military organization created to protect Mobius from any threats. Recently, it took part in fending off an attempted world conquest by the Drakon Empire and their proxy, the New Robotnik Empire.
Overview[]
G.U.N.'s central command is based in Station Square. The organization is led by the commander bearing the codename "Steele", conceiling their identity to prevent aassassinations. Other operatives also have codenames taken from various metals, including gold and tin. It appears that a Zone needs to sign a contract to be protected by G.U.N., but the organization has a "try-before-you-buy" initiative, allowing to temporarily use their services for free.
G.U.N. has access to a variety of weapons, up to and including combat mechs like Flying Dogs. 70 years into the future, they manage to develop a time machine as well.

At some point after the fall of Ivo Robotnik's empire, the Third Development movement of Station Square Zone proposed the idea of unifying the planet's Zones via "united federations", with a military force, which would become G.U.N., protecting them. This proposal never caught on, and G.U.N. was left forgotten for several years.
Sonic the Comic Online![]
After Dr. Robotnik returned with a new empire to torment Mobius with, G.U.N. experienced a sudden leap in popularity, with multiple Zones signing up for membership. G.U.N. would protect said Zones over the course of the war. Aside from military action, they would provide humanitarian assistance as well, such as delivering aid or transporting refugees to the Miracle Planet.
G.U.N.'s Commander Steele was in on Dexter Bagstille's plan to use Super Sonic in a daring attempt to destroy the New Robotnik Empire, as the Ultimax leader reported to him on the progress of Project Solaris, and would inform him when "Iblis" went out of control. In the original series of events, Super Sonic destroyed most of Mobius, with G.U.N. remnants joining the Underground Resistance alongside the few survivors. Super Sonic's reign of terror would be undone when Silver, one of the last G.U.N. agents, traveled into the past and help stop the beast's rampage.
During a battle over the Miracle Planet, a number of G.U.N. agents and Amy Rose got stranded on it when it, no longer chained to Mobius, teleported to Planet Drak. There, they helped the local resistance overthrow the Drakon Empire, and would return to their homeworld soon after.

- G.U.N. first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2. In the games, their acronym stands for "Guardian Units of Nations", it's based on Earth rather than Mobius, and is made up of humans instead of anthropomorphic animals.
