Gabimaru, or also known for his infamous alias Gabimaru the Hollow is the main protagonist of the 2018 manga series Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku and 2023 anime adaptation of the same name. He is the best assassin of from his village known as Iwagakure. He is the husband of the eight daughter of the Iwagakure chief, Yui. His given birth name given by his parents was Saku.
He is voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi in Japanese and by Alejandro Saab in English. He was played by Tsubasa Kizu in the 2023 stage play.
Appearance[]
Gabimaru is a below average height man but with has a muscular build with white messy hair that often cover the right side of his face. He has yellow pupils (red in the manga) and is often seen with a impassive expression. His body is seen to have scars that he received when he was in Iwagakure. After Zhu Jin badly affected his body and fused with a Banko, he gets a fritghening appearance where his hair starts grow a flower his right eye and a black mark that covers half his face including his eye. After he got more controls of his Tao with now a few petals of pink flowers all over his hair, a few black veins around his left eye and would get his normal appearance back after some times after.
As a shinobi from Iwagakure he wore a torned dark blue robe with dark a turtleneck dickey underneath along with a tattsuke bakama a pair of sandale that has gaiters to his leg and a pair of white socks. He also has a turtleneck dickey that he sometime wears to cover his mouth and nose to his idendity.
Personality[]
Gabimaru often acts calm and uninterested even when is death rows due to his wish of wanting to die but can't because of his strong body. However he would evade Sagiri's attack after her attempt to kill him and would loses his cool after she reveals that he does have an attachment to life and that he did cared about his wife. Sagiri also stated that he sometimes likes complains with he is calm, as when they arrived on an island he complained about the shotgun's supplies not being pointless and that the restrains on his hands were an annoyance. After Warped Keiun confronted Gamibaru, he would ignore the monk's attack to focus on retying his hand's restraints like Sagiri suggested him to. Gabimaru would show his disegrament after Sagiri tells him that to start the mission they are gonna need to travel to Edo. Gabimaru is also selfish as he prefer to continue on achieving his on goal than and thinks he is wasting with his battle with Keiun.
Background[]
Gabimaru was borned from a happy married jōnin couple and were thinking about the name that they are gonna give to their child. Due their son's obligation of having to become a shinobi when he grow up, like all the other peoples in the village, his given name would have no importance in his future. At night upon looking at the full moon, the mother got a idea of naming their baby Tsuki, as they think the name with one letter fits him as it was threatening and he would be offered without love in the future.
The couples wanting to leave Iwagakure with their child, to leave a peaceful life but their plan is heard by the village chief. Later on in the night the couple would be killed and Tsuki would instead be raised by the chief by putting harsh trainings at a young age so that he can become the next and last holder of the infamous alias "Gabimaru the Hollow". Through his life as a young child with his trainings with others of his age, despite his age he would express no emotions and didn't cared much about himself and the other childs. As their years of trainings goes by, Gabimaru would face in a dual a child named Shija to take his life which the Iwagakure chief ordered him in doing so by warning him that he would take his life for having his presences within him. The child would run away with fear however, Tsuki was prepared to help Shija by training and him survive as they grew up.
Throughout the trainings while improving his skills, the village chief think that Tsuki was responsable for the cause of several death of other participants. He would be selected as the candidate for the Rite of Succession ceremony, which he has fight for his life with the current 57th Gabimaru at the time. Gabimaru would win the match and succefully obtain the title of Gabimaru. After the ceremony was over he would find Shija among the dead bodies of the shinobi of Iwa. Shija tells him he killed them because they were jealous about him, this makes Gabimary realize that he was the one who was actually killing all the participats and that they were supporting Gabimaru so that he can be the next holder of the Gabimaru title.
Abilities[]
At a young age Gabimaru had already natural talents that helped him to survive and pass Iwagakure's harsh trainings and was way ahead of other candidates of his ages in trainings. Upon earning the "Gabimaru the Hollow" title he is the most feared and powerful in all of the history of the previous Gabimaru title holder. It's stated that he has killed over twenty men in the past all by himself and without taking a single damage to anywhere on his body. Furthermore, even in a murder filled with death row criminals including himself which he had his arms being handcuffed and also killed Warped Keiun easily, a criminal that has killed hundreds of his own victim. And even against the giant Rokurōta didn't stand a chance against him, who is a known criminal for taking down two Asaemon of high rankings. In additions he even took down all fifty-four assassins sent to him by Iwagakure to kill him which is stated that not a single one of them were able to even damage him.
Even more, upon his arrival in Kotaku, he has been said to be one of the first few to have be able to survive the trial of the islands, even reaching Hōrai the same place where Lord Tensen lived and managing to escape in all of the one-thousand years.
Highly advanced Ninpō/Ninjutsu: As a shinobi prodigy with alot of trainings experiences, he is capable the uses of diverse level of ninjutsu/taijutsu.
- Ninpō: Hibōshi/Fire Manipulation: Also known as Ascetic Blaze, as Hibōshi mean "fire monk", Gabimaru can set his body on fire setting the setting his body's heat at an extremely high level of heat by igniting the oils on his body.
Extreme heat resistance: In addition to his pyrokinesis ninjutsu, his body is capable of withstand extreme heat caused by the ninjutsu on his body, which he has survived numerous burns in death row sentences as his body had a few burns on it and has also resisted in being boiled alive and has lasted long enough only for him to collapse of the extreme temperature.
- Ninpō: Ikari Tsubute: Upon using Hibōshi, Gabimaru grabs a few rocks and is able to use them to lauch fireballs at his enemies from his mouth
- Ninpō: Toge Busuma: While using the same fire technique, Gabimaru grasp a tree and set in on fire and can push it at his enemies.
- Ninpō: Ōtsubute: Similar to Toge Busuma, as he sets a boulder on fire this time and throw at his opponets with his incredible strength.
- Ninpō: Oni Hotaru: Gabimaru throws a smaller projectile that will explode a bright light to blind the and used a distraction.
- Ninpō: Hibōshi Saidai Karyoku: Being described as a stronger type of Hibōshi.
Trivia[]
- Gabimaru's birth name means "New Moon". His mother got this idea for his name when he was watching the full moon at night before giving him birth.
- He is the 58th holder of the title "Gabimaru the Hollow".
- Gabimaru suffers from Ageusia Ageusia, a loss of the ability to taste.
- He has been compared to a cat as a gag.
- There was a stage play tour of the series that occurred from February 16 of 2023 to February 26 of 2023 in at Hulic Hall in Tokyo.
