Biography[]
Early life[]
Gamora was born as a member of the Zehoberei species on the planet Zen-Whoberi to an unnamed mother and father. Despite being happy on her home planet, the Zehoberei were also dying due to a lack of resources for everyone.
When Gamora was only a child, the genocidal space tyrant, Thanos, invaded Zen-Whoberi with his forces to halve the population as a solution to their lack of resources. Gamora and her mother tried to hide together, but were discovered by a member of Thanos' army. She attracted the attention of Thanos himself, who took a liking to her, showed her his switchblade, and spared her from the halving in which both her parents were killed. He then forcibly adopted her and raised her to be an assassin on his ship alongside her other adopted siblings.
She grew close with Nebula, her adopted Luphomoid sister, but their relationship was strained as Thanos forced the two girls to fight each other every day. Gamora always won, resulting in Nebula getting nearly every part of her body replied with cybernetic upgrades as punishment. Gamora was also cybernetically and bionically upgraded, but less to than Nebula. Eventually, Gamora built up a reputation as the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy, massacring thousands for Thanos, who came to genuinely love her as his favourite daughter, and believed she would be the heir to his throne.
Sent to capture Tony Stark[]
When Loki Laufeyson invaded New York City, on Earth, in 2012 with his Chitauri army, he was defeated by a team called the Avengers. The 'mastermind' of the team, Tony Stark, was sucked into a portal and sent to a planet called Sakaar. Gamora was ordered by Thanos to find Tony and kill him so he would not interfere with her father's plans any longer. She tracked him down to Sakaar and attempted to kill him, but they were both then captured by the Grandmaster.
Gamora attempted to kill Tony once gain when locked in a room with him, but he rebuffed her and escaped with a fellow prisoner named Korg. She told him who she was and promised that Thanos would seek revenge on Earth for Tony's actions against him, but Tony ignored her and decided to save Sakaar from the Grandmaster's reign. Recaptured, Gamora forced Topaz to take her to the Grandmaster, where she said she wanted Tony and would leave Sakaar if given him. Wanting to make it interesting, the Grandmaster challenged Tony to a race and said that whoever won would lead Sakaar, and also forced Gamora to participate as well. Put in a car, Tony put a device in her car so they could speak together, as he believed there was more to her than just being the 'Daughter of Thanos'.
While racing, Tony tried to persuade Gamora to help him and that she didn't have to do what Thanos said, or be who he had made her into. Gamora attempted to kill him again, but Valkyrie stopped her, and when Tony explained his own past with his father, he asked who she wanted to be, and she finally told him her name instead of just calling herself the daughter of Thanos, helping him win against the Grandmaster.
Having won and left Sakaar better than it was, Gamora pretended to betray Tony and took him to Thanos' ship, the Sanctuary, to meet Thanos. It was a trap, however, and Tony gave her the Melt Stick to kill Thanos, allowing Gamora to finally break free of her father. As a prize, she took his double-edged sword, his battle armor, and destroyed the Infinity Stones so they could never be used.
Saving the Multiverse[]
Once the Infinity Stones were destroyed, Gamora and Tony traveled to the realm of Nidavellir where they met Eitri, asking him to destroy the Infinity Gauntlet. During the process, Gamora was greeted by Uatu the Watcher, who stated that she was chosen and transported her to a dimension outside of space. Meeting Peggy Carter, T'Challa, Stephen Strange, Thor Odinson and Erik Killmonger, she was informed by the Watcher that he needed their assistance in stopping Infinity Ultron from conquering the multiverse. Gamora then showed the group the Infinity Crusher, and a plan was formed to stop Ultron by using the crusher and obtain the Stones from him. While on an unnamed planet, Strange provided a toast that resulted in Thor alerting Ultron to their presence.
Gamora and her teammates were then given protection spells by Strange to fight the artificial intelligence, but Strange and Thor fight Ultron to allow the others to escape with the Soul Stone to Ultron's universe. The group encountered Natasha Romanoff and assisted her in fighting Ultron, but the artificial intelligence managed to stop time to re-obtain the Soul Stone. However, Strange used the Time Stone to undo this, allowing them to use the Infinity Crusher. Ultron then revealed that the crusher didn't work as the Stones worked differently in his universe, which Gamora realized at the last moment. While Infinity Ultron attempted to kill Strange, Natasha managed to shoot an arrow into Ultron, which allowed Arnim Zola's consciousness to enter his robotic body. Upon their victory, Killmonger obtained the Stones but locked in a standstill with Zola, and Strange imprisoned the two into a pocket dimension.
After the battle, Uatu congratulated the Guardians on helping him stop Ultron, and allowed them to return to their universes from where they left. Returning to her universe, Gamora reunited with Tony as the others returned to home, excluding Natasha, who was sent to another universe where she and the recruited Avengers were assassinated by Hank Pym.
Reuniting with the Guardians[]
At some point later, Gamora would rejoin the Guardians to keep protecting the Multiverse, being joined by Byrdie, the hybrid daughter of Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck, Ororo Munroe, a lightning-powered Mutant going by the title of the Goddess of Thunder, and Kahhori, a cosmically-enhanced Mohawk woman. They took a photo and went on many adventures together, although Gamora eventually left the team to resume her regular life.
