“ | If there's any way you can stop my steady advances, go ahead and try! | „ |
~ Gang-il |
Gang-il (Korean/hangul:강일) is a hero in The King of Fighters XIV. An Afro-Korean man of rather short stature, he is a renowned Taekwondo instructor and the master of Kim Kaphwan.
He is voiced by Toshiya Fujisawa.
Story[]
Gang-il hails from South Korea and uses Taekwondo as his fighting style. He joins Kim Kaphwan and Luong to form the KOF XIV Kim Team. Likewise, Gang-il is the chairman of the World Taekwondo Federation as well as Kim's master. His astonishing kicking techniques can break through any opponent's guard. He is always accompanied by a different woman every time he returns from his travels.
Personality[]
Gang-il's fortitude and beaming pride for Taekwondo are perhaps the only traits he shares with Kim. When he's not fighting, Gang-il is an outgoing socialite and brazen womanizer. Believing that Kim's rigidness to his beliefs holds him back, Gang-il may try to criticize his student; he is so far the only person who can do so without suffering Kim's strict retaliation.
Abilities[]
Gang-il fights using the Korean martial art, Taekwondo. His skills mirror Kim and his sons, Kim Jae Hoon, and Kim Dong Hwan. Unlike Kim, Gang-il's kicks are very powerful, capable of blowing even the heaviest opponents away with little difficulty.
Despite being Kim's master, Kim has surpassed him, as is evident from the fact that Kim can use Hangetsuzan both on the ground and in the air while Gang-il can only use it in the air, Hienzan is one of Kim's regular special moves while for Gang-il it is one of his supers and Houou Kyaku is one of Kim's supers while Gang-il uses it as his climax super.
