Gannis Ducain is minor character in Star Wars sequel trilogy.
He is a gunrunner who was known for stealing the Millennium Falcon from Han Solo. Eventually, after realizing the contact he worked for was working with the First Order, Gucain decided to chain his ways and joning the Resistance.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Gannis Ducain worked as a janitor in Takodana Castle for Maz Kanata. He often overheard stories of pirates, smugglers, and bounty hunters telling tales of their adventures, like when a Twi'lek manage to evade the Hutts who tried to betray them and Devaronian scoffing at someone who claimed to be a clone who knows the location of forgotten Separatist treasures (due to them being dead). Ducain overheard Han talking with Maz who needed a co-pilot due to Chewbacca, being busy with family business. Ducain volunteered himself to help with a job to the planet Christophsis, with Maz vouching for him. Solo decided to take Ducain aboard the Millennium Falcon, which Ducain knew from its role in events before and during the Galactic Civil War, partially when it made the Kessle Run and flew into a Death Star. Although Solo had given the young man advice on choosing to fight for what was right in the galaxy, Ducain decided to steal the Falcon while Solo left to meet his contact, using the legendary freighter to make a name for himself as a gunrunner.
Ducain used the Falcon to travel to places he dreamed up, visiting places like Canto Bight and also letting his legend grow; which he mentions to people in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley. Ducain gain help of a mysterious contact, which help his legend grow throughout the galaxy for years until he met with his contact on Vardos. Really an officer of the emerging First Order, Ducain's contact attempted to recruit him to their emerging effort. Supposedly agreeing but really planning to run, Ducain believed he needed to return the Falcon to Solo, only to lose the ship to the Irving Boys before he had the chance. Nevertheless, after the Falcon was again stolen by junk boss Unkar Plutt, Solo and Chewbacca recovered the Falcon after it had been taken by Finn and Rey.
Joining the Resistance[]
Ducain was founded by Bazine Netal, who was hunter of the Falcon. Ducain, who had since turned a new leaf to join the Resistance. He traveled with Finn to Horizon Base in hopes of recruiting the resistance group stationed there. Though they were intercepted by stormtroopers, they managed to evade capture. Soon after, they were captured by the Oru forces, but Finn and Ducain managed to convince them of the righteousness of their cause. Mezlo, a member of the Oru, used a candori to help them escape. While Mezlo declined their offer to join the Resistance, they pledged their honor and vowed to fight alongside them if the need arose.
Personality and Traits[]
Initially driven by personal gain and fame, Ducain stole the Millennium Falcon to make a name for himself, embracing a life of risk and independence. Though his early actions reflect a rebellious streak and disregard for loyalty. Upon realizing he was helping people who destroying the galaxy, Ducain, ultimately joining the Resistance and showing the potential for redemption in the face of greater challenges.
