The Gaoul are an ancient avian alien race from the planet Sesharrim, that appears in the 2000 Don Bluth animated science fiction film Titan A.E. where they play a key role in helping Cale Tucker locate the Titan.
Appearance[]
The Gaoul are an ancient race of sapient flying creatures with an appearance reminiscent of a red humanoid pterosaur. The Gaoul themselves have large, membranous wings, four-fingered hands and an eagle-like beak. The Gaoul appear to be incapable of speaking like most humanoids can (at least maybe not in the same language that is used by the all the other non-Drej races of the galaxy).
The Gaoul are known to have three pairs of limbs... a single set of arms, a set of legs and a pair of wings, the latter making them capable of flying long distances, and also acts as a body-covering cloak when not in use. Their feet are also capable of grappling and carrying large objects or people (including Humans, other Gaoul, or other creatures) while flying.
Behaviour[]
While to most outsiders the Gaoul may appear both threatening and intimidating in appearance, but are quickly shown to be friendly and peaceful in nature, unless provoked by those that would dare harm others (such as the warmongering Drej for example). They're shown to be highly intelligent, wise, resourceful, and quick thinking.
History[]
The Gaoul are a reclusive species, usually hiding within the rocky caverns of Sesharrim and rarely venture outdoors. Their existence is not widely known by the other species of the Spiral Arm, thus making the Gaoul a complete mystery to nearly everyone, all except for those who have gazed upon them.
At some point in ancient times the Gaoul used to be one of the most advanced races in the universe according to Sam Tucker. They were one of the few friendly alien races that were allied with humanity and firmly believed in their potential before and even after the devastating Drej attack on Earth during 3028 AD (which resulted in Earth's destruction and the remaining survivors to go into forced hiding from the Drej). It was through the Gaoul that Sam Tucker quickly learned how to create and develop the terraforming technology that would eventuate into the Titan project itself.
