Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison is the one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Henry) of the 2025 fantasy action adventure film A Minecraft Movie which is based on the video game franchise of the same name.
He is a former video game champion who found success prematurely and has yet to recapture it over many years, giving him an inflated ego desperate for validation.
He is portrayed by Jason Momoa, who also played Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, Conan the Barbarian in the 2011 film of the same name and Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Biography[]
Back in 1989 as a teenager, Garrett was a participant of World Video Game Championship. He competed against other rivals in the fictional beat-em up video game, Hunk City Rampage, most notably in the finals where he took on two at once and won the championship. Following his success, Garrett become somewhat of a d-list celebrity, rifting off of his local fame as he won trophies and had his image plastered on different pieces of merchandise. Garrett would eventually open a video game store in his adulthood titled "Game Over World" while his ego started to inflate for the worse, living nostalgically in his past achievements without attempting to make any new accomplishments.
During the present day, Garrett receives an eviction notice for his store and heads over to a storage unit to bid all of his money on it after noticing an Atari Cosmos box, in the hopes that he can make a profit by selling it at Game Over World. What he finds inside disappoints him and he trashes the storage unit to the other bidders' annoyance. He nonetheless takes all from the unit that he can fit in his car, before it breaks down. He eventually gets back to his store by the next day and displays two mysterious artifacts he found inside the Atari Cosmos box together. He is visited by the new resident, Henry who is stopping by on his way to school and Garrett offers to give him mentoring lessons. Later when Henry gets in trouble at school, he remembers Garrett from earlier and contacts him to pose as his uncle. Garrett denies, but when Henry offers to pay him $26, he arrives at the school and the vice principal, Marlene vaguely recognizes him.
Garrett takes Henry back to Game Over World, and latter notices the former's artifact he found and combines them together despite a note's warnings not to do such, revealing that this artifact, the Orb of Dominance and the Earth Cube respectively could case great danger. With this orb now in hand, Henry is dragged to a mineshaft while Garrett follows him. Henry's older sister, Natalie, and her estate agent, Dawn follow Garrett and Henry and all four are dragged into a portal, leading to the Overworld, a dimension entirely made of blocks. When they notice a sheep when exploring the Overworld, Garrett believes it to be a quest giver and wastes time talking to it to the point it becomes nighttime already, and all are ambush by a swarm of hostile mobs, and Garrett responds to this situation by accidentally falling into a hole and escaping the monsters. Eventually when he re-emerges on the surface, finds the others in Henry's tower and retrieves the orb but hesitates, to the point that a Skeleton's arrow destroys the Earth Cube protecting it, causing the portal back to Earth to disable. Henry yanks Garrett into his tower and all are cornered by a group of zombies, before it suddenly becomes daytime again. They are rescued by a man who was stuck in the Overworld for a long time, and this person reveals himself as Steve.
