Garthan Saal is a supporting character in the 2014 science-fiction superhero movie, Guradians of the Galaxy. He is a high ranking member of Nova Corps, who arrested the Guardians of the Galaxy, and was one of the Nova Corps's member with the most distrustful opinion towards them, only accepting that they were trying to help during the battle of Xandar, moments before he dies trying to protect the planet.
He is portryed by Peter Serafinowicz, who also voiced Johnny's Father in the Sing films.

Garthan Saal is a Xandarian male who entered Nova Corps, and became a Denarian, one of the highest ranks within the organization.
Guardians of the Galaxy[]
He along Rhomann Dey examine the newest prisoners and their crimes, with Saal clearly expressing his disgust to them. After the process, Saal ordered the prisoners to be sent to the high safety prison of Kyln, and despite Dey's claim to them to be sent to a normal prison, as Kyln was overly violent, Saal asserted authority and said that regular prisons wouldn't hold them, while Kyln would.
He later reacts along with the rest of Nova Corps to Star-Lord's message about Ronan's attack and that they should let them help. Despite Saal's initial disbelief, and attempts to convince Nova Prime to not letting them enter the planet, Rhomann Dey changed most of Nova Prime's head about the Guardians, and she let them help. Saal wasn't pleased, but was ready and willing to be proven wrong about them, to the safety of his planet. He entered a Star Blaster and fought Ronan's troops, and, during the battle, he saw Rocket Raccoon defending some Xandarians, which raised his hopes and beliefs in the Guardians. When Nova Prime ordered the Star Blasters to form a blocket against the Dark Aester, Ronan's ship, Saal did it along with the other member of Nova Corps. With the power of Power Stone, however, Ronan made his way through the blocket, destroying many ships, including Saal's, who screamed in pain and asked for help in his last moments, dying while he protected loyalty his nation.
Legacy[]
Rocket became more angry at Ronan for Saal's death, and problaby this helped his focus and endeavor at the mission, as he destroyed many of Ronan's ships after that. Saal's death was avenged when the Guardians of the Galaxy killed Ronan with the Power Stone. Rhomann Dey, Saal's friend, was promoted to Denarian to substitute his late friend.

- In the comics, Garthan Saal was a member of the Nova Corps that became a being known as Nova Omega or Supernova, the recipient of all the Nova Corps' cosmic force, after the destruction of Xandar.
