Gelgar is a character in the manga and anime, Attack on Titan. He was an elite soldier in the Survey Corps who was a part of Squad Mike. He fought off the Titans during the invasion of Wall Rose where he would lose his life during the battle of Castle Utgard.
Appearance[]
Gelgar was man of average height with a somewhat slender build. He had light brown hair that he kept in the form of a pompadour. He had brown eyes and thin eyebrows, whilest also having a slim face with a refined jawline.
He used to wear the standard Survey Corps uniform with a blue greyish shirt underneath.
Personality[]
Being a member of the Survey Corps, Gelgar possessed the typical traits to other members of the regiment, he was a devoted, loyal, dutiful and brave man who fought for the greater good of humanity. He cared a lot for the comrades around him, actively withholding information from Connie Springer to not upset him after he found his hometown destroyed and abondened. Whilst appearing serious on the job, Gelgar could also be rather carefree, shown in his passion for drinking and his often-impulsive style of fighting the Titans, he would even spent the last moments of his life angrily yelling and accusing someone of drinking the bottle of wine he was planning on saving up while having been grabbed by a Titan.
Story[]
Background[]
Gelgar was born on October 9th in an unknown year, somewhere inside what is assumed to be Wall Rose. At some point in his youth, Gelgar joined the military and would eventually join Survey Corps. He would be positioned in Squad Mike, under the authority of Squad Leader Mike Zacharias.
It is expected that Gelgar partook in numerous expeditions in the Titan infested Wall Maria, with Gelgar developing into a great soldier having elite skill in the usage of the ODM Gear.
Female Titan arc[]
After the disastrous 57th expedition outside the Walls caused by the Female Titan who is suspected to be Annie Leonhart. The main bulk of the Survey Corps go to Stohess District in order to capture her, while commander Erwin assigned Squad Mike to keep a watch on the new Survey Corps recruits who came from the 104th Trainee Corps. As he suspected that more Titan shifters are among them. Gelgar and the rest of his squad would be located in a Survey Corps base in the southern parts of Wall Rose, while not properly explaining to the recruits why they are being detained.
Clash of the Titans arc[]
During the same day as the fight in Stohess, Mike Zacharias suddenly senses multiple Titans coming from south of their base.
Everyone rides away from the base, including with the 104th recruits who Gelgar and the others don’t suspect anymore, because a Titan breach happened while they were still in custody. Mike decides to split into 4 teams, one going to the south, one west, one north and one east, so they efficiently evacuate all the citizens. Gelgar is assigned to go with Connie Springer into the southern regions.
Mike orders for his men to split up with Gelgar and his comrades beginning to make the formation, but as the Titans reach their base, they suddenly start running after the soldiers, confusing everyone. Mike decides to use himself as bait, so the Titans go after him instead, while leaving Gelgar in charge of the southern team. The soldiers of his squad aren’t font of his action, but Gelgar reassures them that his power is only second after Captain Levi, so they should have faith in him.
While Gelgar continues forward with his mission, he’s unaware that Mike would eventually be killed by a mysterious Beast-like Titan.
Gelgar and his group would alert all villages in the southern regions of Wall Rose and around 5 hours after the Titans were first spotted, they reach Connie Springer’s hometown of Ragako. The village is completely abandoned with most of the houses having been destroyed. Connie Springer does however find a lone Titan laying on top of his former home. Glegar yells for everyone to be careful, but only then does her notice that the Titan is completely incapable of moving because of its extremely small and thin limbs, causing Gelgar to wonder how it even got there in the first place.
