"Either he's honest to a fault, or the world's greatest liar."
~ Xeno Houston Wingfield in regards to Gen Asagiri

Gen Asagiri is one of the main characters in the anime and manga series Dr. Stone. He is a professional mentalist who was one of the billions of humans worldwide affected by the Petrification Event, a phenomenon where a mysterious green light turned every human being on Earth to stone.

In the year 5739, around 3,700 years after the Petrification Event, he was de-petrified by Tsukasa Shishio, who then assigned him the task of finding out if Senku Ishigami was still alive or not after seemingly killing him. Gen later on discovered Senku was indeed alive. But rather than report this back to Tsukasa, he instead decided to join Senku's Kingdom of Science after being convinced he can bring humanity back to the way it was before everyone was turned to stone.

He's voiced by Kengo Kawanishi in Japanese and by Brandon McInnis in English.

Appearance[]

Before turning into stone, Gen was first seen with a full set of black hair along with a tuxedo. After being de-petrified, the right side of his hair has turned white. He also has a scar on the left side of his face that goes from his eye down past his chin. His current outfit consists of a hand crafted yukata covered by a purplish coat that reaches close to his feet, as well as long pants.

Personality[]

That's azy-cray!
~ Gen's usual freak out expression

Gen is a master of deceit and manipulation, making him a formidable adversary and an unreliable companion. He boasts of being the world's best smooth-talker, leveraging this skill to assist his friends whenever necessary.

Although not as scientifically adept as Senku, Gen has a basic grasp of modern science and technology. He employs this knowledge to inspire his comrades and boost morale, as well as to outwit opponents. Despite these capabilities, he can be somewhat lazy, manipulative and cowardly, sometimes feigning ignorance to avoid work or combat. He takes great pride in his talents as both a magician and a mentalist. In perilous situations, he remains composed and collected, whether being interrogated, threatened, or in hostile territory. Nonetheless, Gen can display emotions such as surprise or disbelief, particularly when Senku unveils a new plan.

Abilities[]

  • Psychology: Gen is a skilled mentalist with a deep understanding of the human psyche. He can expertly analyze and interpret the thoughts and motivations of others, showcasing his adeptness in psychological insight and manipulation.
  • Skilled Liar: Gen can fool just about anyone, especially those of the Post-Petrification Era.
  • Mastery at manipulation: Gen Asagiri is known for his exceptional talent in persuasion, often effortlessly influencing others to achieve his or his allies' objectives. His skills in manipulation make him a valuable asset to his group, as he consistently secures the outcomes they desire.
  • Impersonation: Gen can accurately impersonate people, both male and female. He's capable of mimicking people's voices to the point of being indiscernible from the original.
  • Acting skills: Gen's impersonation skills allow him to feign certain emotions like worry or sadness, which he does to test another person's common sense before revealing his true colors at the end, which he does in episode 18 of season 1.

Quotes[]

When a guy's getting into mischief like that, you're not really supposed to look until he's done.
~ Gen.

Trivia[]

  • Gen's birthday is April Fool's Day (April 1st), which is fitting since he's a mentalist and is known for tricking people (e.g Episode 18 of season 1 having Gen tricking everyone into thinking he became a traitor and took Hyoga's side but instead founded the weakness of Hyoga's sword and impressed Hyoga in the trickery once Gen pretended to be worried before showing off his calculating side).
