Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility."
Spider-Man has declared that this article is still under construction. |
Genji Togashi is a major character in the Otokojuku manga franchise by Akira Miyashita, introduced as a deuteragonist in Sakigake!! Otokojuku and its anime adaptation. He is a juvenile delinquent and a newly arrived student in Otokojuku, born to a veteran Japanese pilot from World War II. Though he starts out as a brash and troublesome student due to his rebellious attitude, Togashi undergoes serious character development, becoming a great ally and a brother to Momotaro Tsurugi and their fellow students.
He was voiced by Ken Yamaguchi, who also voiced Ein in Hokuto no Ken.
Appearance[]
A gruff-looking young man, Genji's rough exterior makes him appear much older than he really is. He is tall and well-built. He has a fine mustache and a scar on his right eye, which add to his tough looks. He is always seen wearing the uniform of Otokojuku, plus a cap that he keeps on most of the time as a gift from his late brother. He doesn't carry any standard weapon unlike Momotaro but he makes due in combat by picking up whatever he can find. As with many other students, Togashi has numerous battle scars going down his body due to the large number fights he has been through.
Personality[]
Upon arriving at Otokojuku, Togashi was a troublemaker with a fierce attitude and a rebellious nature. The anime expands on this by showing his first days in school and his arguments with the more responsible and stoic Momotaro, having him grow to respect him and see him as a brother figure. It is said tha Togashi's tough guy persona started after the death of his older brother in the school trials, which shaped Genji into a brash delinquent as a coping mechanism, hoping to get strong enough to avenge him one day. Heihachi's spin-off manga shows that he had a courageous spirit worthy of Yamato practically since he was a baby.
Though later story arcs made Togashi more of a side character and comic relief, he had notable character development in the first arcs. Despite his rebellious ways, Genji proves time and time again to be a strong-willed man with a lot of loyalty for his schoolmates, often receiving harsh and extreme punishment to protect them and undergoing many trials to ensure their victory.
Skills and abilities[]
- Strength of character: In spite of not being as strong as the other key fighters from Momotaro's core team, Togashi displays an exceptional fighting spirit against adversity, being capable of taking on threats and punishment that are seemingly too much for him and still pull through. Even when completely outmatched by his foes, Genji never backs down during the school trials.
- Street fighting skills: Genji's fighting style revolves around fighting head on and overpowering his opponents through sheer brute force and somewhat underhanded techniques. He occasionally uses weapons and extreme measures such as suicidal tactics, seen when he tried to take down Jaki Daigouin with dynamite.
