Genjii is a character from the Touhou Project and a supporting character in the old Touhou PC-98 games. He serves as Reimu Hakurei's familiar and means of transportation before the Windows games. However, after his debut game like other PC-98 characters he has never appeared after Mystic Square. Genjii has presumably retired after Reimu learned to fly on her own, and is implied to now be living in a lake at the Hakurei Shrine.
History[]
PC-98 games[]
Genjii allows Reimu to fly. Although the first game is the only one where he has any lines, Genjii is present for the entire plot.
Story of Eastern Wonderland[]
Reimu is forced to carry out an investigation when monsters mysteriously appear at the Hakurei Shrine. As Reimu cannot yet fly on her own, she takes Genjii in order to take off on a journey to find the source of the monsters.
Lotus Land Story[]
After the events of Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream, youkai begin to swarn the Hakurei Shrine, making it under attack yet again. Reimu takes Genjii in order to head for a lake in the mountains, which appears to be the source of a tremendous power surge. She and Genjii discover a chasm in an island at the center of the lake where the power surge seems to be coming from. They follow the chasm until they reach a dark mansion called Mugenkan, where Reimu is greeted by Elly, the gatekeeper of the mansion, who reluctantly admits that Marisa has already defeated her. Once inside, Reimu and Marisa meet, and are not too thrilled to see each other. Their animosity towards each other results in a duel to try to get the loser to leave. The two accidentally awaken the sleepy youkai Yuuka, who turns out to be the one responsible for the attacks against the Shrine. If the player is Reimu, then Marisa will leave moments before meeting Yuuka, and Reimu will be forced to battle her alone, with Genjii only there to allow her to fly.
Mystic Square[]
Once again, monsters attack the Hakurei Shrine; this time, they are demons. Reimu sets off with Genjii in order to find the source of the invasion, which appears to be a cave buried in the mountains. She travels there, and ends up confronting Shinki, who is behind the problem.
Strange and Bright Nature Deity[]
While Genjii does not appear in the manga, in Chapter 12, turtles are stated to live in the pond at the back of the Hakurei Shrine. This is most likely where Genjii now rests since Reimu has learned how to fly on her own.
