“ | I speak to thee of a being who came from beyond the sea and defiled this land... We must pray for its erasure from this world so that future generations may know true peace. With vortices of purest malice, it twists the living into monsters most vile and deranged... Its inhuman powers are even enough to subjugate even the lords of the spirit world. Indeed the mightiest of them turned to dust in its wake, leaving Felghana to rot... Truly, it is a devil, for no hand of man could wreak such despair. Its name... Galbalan. | „ |
~ Genos's speech on Galbalan's evil in Oath in Felghana. |
“ | I am Genos... I am a warrior from the west, brought here through divine providence. I sought to sever the devil's grasp on this land, but my sword could only divide it, and seal it within the holy treasures. Yet even now, the machinations of the wicked threaten to reunify those heinous remnants... Swordsman... Thou art to be my successor. I grant thee a measure of my strength... | „ |

“ | The treasures number four in total. Two lie herein... One lies amidst hellish brimstone... And the last sits hight atop a mountain... Thou must make haste, swordsman... The resurrection is nigh... | „ |

Genos is a posthumous protagonist from Ys III: Wanderers from Ys and its remake Ys: The Oath in Felghana, the latter showing him as a posthumous supporting character.
Appearance[]
In the PC-Engine version of Ys III, Genos was depicted as a muscular man with shoulder-length blonde hair who wore a winged helmet, a blue loincloth adorned with a belt and a pair of silver boots.
In the PS2 version of Ys III, he was depicted as a dark-haired man dressed in armor similarly to Adol.
Powers and Skills[]
Genos's primary weapon was a sword that he used to stop Galbalan and use the four statues to seal him away. In the PC-Engine and PS2 versions of Ys III, he also wielded a shield when he faced off against Galbalan.
In the remake Oath in Felghana, the sword can also be used to trigger a mechanism to destroy Galbalan by destroying the island.
Biography[]
Generations ago when Galbalan reigned terror across the land and wiped-out life wherever he went, Genos stepped in to fight Galbalan and put an end to the slaughter. However, Galbalan was still alive and Genos had to seal him away beneath an island with the help of four statues and implemented a mechanism that can destroy Galbalan in the event that there is no other way to stop him by destroying the island. Later on, his descendants would build the village Chester and Elena were born in.
However, thanks to Garland's scheming, this village was destroyed by the army of Valestein Castle with Elena and Chester being the only survivors with the latter swearing revenge for the slaughter of his people. In remake Oath in Felghana, Adol visits the spirit of Genos at the mine and learns the legend of how he stopped Galbalan and sealed away Galbalan. Genos then gives the hero a mission tablet which gives him the ability to double jump and double boost. Genos explains to Adol that two of the statues were contained in the mine, another was contained in a lava cave at Illvern ruins, and the fourth one lies at the top of the mountain. Genos then tells Adol to hurry as Galbalan's return is inevitable.
Later on, in all versions of the story, Chester sacrifices his life by triggering the mechanism Genos installed to kill Galbalan by destroying the island to make amends for all the wrongs he caused in the name of revenge.
