Genya Shinazugawa (不死川玄弥) is a major character in the 2016-2020 fantasy horror manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and its 2019 anime television series adaption.

He was a Demon Slayer and the younger brother of Sanemi Shinazugawa.

He is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Zeno Robinson in the English version of the anime.

Appearance

Genya was a short boy with large dark purple inward-slanting eyes. The space where his eyebrows would have been is constantly furrowing, which has given him a permanent angry look on his face. His hair is styled in a buzz-cut with only a clump of messy black hair.

He wears a dark olive-green Demon Slayer uniform over his purple yukata, which he had sported.

Personality

Genya was a foul-mouthed and ill-tempered boy who declined any support from others and showed a little interest in being polite or showing any kind of courtesy. He roughly handled Kanata Ubuyashiki during Final Selection by grabbing her hair and screaming at her harder, which results into Tanjiro Kamado breaking his arm. His ill-tempered traits and brash way of speaking is much like his older brother Sanemi Shinazugawa.

His surname "Shinazugawa" is the meaning of "Immortality" for "不死 (Shinazu)" and "River" for "川 (Gawa)". His surname has a cruel irony considering that he is only one of six main members to died.
Genya is one of the few characters of the series that does not use a sword primarily and is the only Demon Slayer that can't use any Breathing Styles.
His Japanese voice actor, Nobuhiko Okamoto, also voiced Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, Rin Okumura in Blue Exorcist, Eiji Niizuma in Beelzebub, Yuu Nishinoya in Haikyuu!!, Ghiaccio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind and Khun Aguero Agnes in Tower of God.
