George Weasley (born 1 April 1978) is a major character in the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. He was a pure-blood wizard, a son of Molly and Arthur Weasley, a brother of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Ron, Ginny, and twin brother of the late Fred Weasley.
George's first few years were marked by the height of the First Wizarding War and the downfall of Lord Voldemort when he was just three years old. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1989 to 1996 with Fred and was Sorted into Gryffindor house. He and Fred were popular students, becoming Beaters for the Gryffindor Quidditch team in their second year, and members of Dumbledore's Army in their unfinished seventh year.
A born prankster and inventor, George left Hogwarts prior to graduation to become a successful entrepreneur, alongside his twin brother and opened the joke shop Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes at 93 Diagon Alley. He was a member of the Order of the Phoenix and fought in the Battle of the Seven Potters and the Battle of Hogwarts; in the latter, Fred died, leaving George heartbroken. Sometime after the end of the Second Wizarding War, George married Angelina Johnson, with whom he had a son he named Fred, in honor of his late twin, and a daughter named Roxanne.
In the film adaptations, he was portrayed by Oliver Phelps and by Daniel Radcliffe when disguised under polyjuice potion.
George Weasley was born on April 1st, 1978 alongside his twin brother Fred to Arthur Weasley and Molly Prewett, and is the younger brother to Bill, Charlie and Percy, and older brother to Ron and Ginny. The Weasley children were raised at the Burrow near Devon, England, and despite being poor, George loved his family dearly. Alongside his twin Fred, George became a troublemaker at a young age, and would pull pranks on his siblings. George and Fred would often pull some of their pranks on their younger brother Ron, such as turning his teddy bear into a spider, thus causing Ron to develop a fear of the arthropods. The twins also tried to trick Ron into taking an unbreakable vow, and the two were disciplined by their father.
Around 1989, George and Fred were allowed to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and like the rest of the Weasley family, was sorted into House Gryffindor. During their first two years at the school, the twins befriended fellow Gryffindor members Oliver Wood, Angelina Johnson, Lee Jordan and Alicia Spinnet. George and Fred became well known pranksters at Hogwarts, and managed to pull most of them with the assistance of the Marauder's Map, which they had stolen from Argus Filch's office. In their second year, the twins joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and gained the position of beaters.
Harry Potter Series
The Sorcerer's Stone
During their third year at Hogwarts, George and Fred became friends with Harry Potter, who had just learned of his wizardry lineage and that he famous in the wizarding world. This was also Ron's first year after being sorted into House Gryffindor, and the twins became friends with Harry alongside his new friend, Hermione Granger. By the end of their third year, the twins learned that Harry, Ron and Hermione stopped Professor Quirinus Quirrell, and attempted to send a toilet seat to Harry when he was unconscious in the hospital wing.
The Chamber of Secrets
In the summer of 1992, George and Fred decided to help Ron reach Harry at the Dursley residence when he didn't contact them for a month. Taking their father's flying car, the Weasley's managed to rescue Harry and took him to the Burrow before returning to Hogwarts. The twins started their fourth year by teasing Ginny since it was first year, and also didn't believe in the rumors that Harry had opened the Chamber of Secrets. The twins presumably thanked Harry for saving Ginny from the Basilisk, and after the end of their fourth year, went to Egypt after their father won a large amount of gold by playing a ministry contest.
The Prisoner of Azkaban
During their fourth year, the twins decided to give Harry the Marauder's Map since they've had memorized it, which allowed Potter to enter Hogsmeade unnoticed. The two also gave their sympathies to Harry when dealing with Dementors, and to Ron when he lost his pet rat Scabbers. Additionally, the twins also started to create their own inventions to pull more pranks, such as the ton-tongue toffe they gave to Dudley Dursley.
The Goblet of Fire
While attending the Quidditch world cup, the twins gambled the outcome, and won a great deal of money before losing their savings to Ludo Bagman. When Hogwarts started the Triwizard Tournament, George and Fred attempted to enter the competition despite being underage, and attempted to trick the age spell that was casted by Dumbledore. The attempt was unsuccessful, however, and their spell backfired and gave the two beards. By the end of their sixth year, the twins were grateful when Harry gave them a thousand galleons in order to start up their business.
The Order of the Phoenix
The twins decided to return for their seventh year despite not caring much about their education, and became members of Dumbledore's Army under the leadership of Harry. After Dumbledore took the blame after Dumbledore's Army was discovered, George and Fred decided to start a rebellion against Dolores Umbridge before flying away from Hogwarts.
The Half-Blood Prince
Despite not continuing with their education, the twins started a successful business called Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, which became so popular that they were able to move into a flat above their store. The twins also created products for the Defense Against the Dark Arts called "shield hats" and "shield cloaks" that were bought by the Ministry, and secretly sent their products to Hogwarts.
The Deathly Hallows
Once they reached of age, the twins became members of the Order of the Phoenix since they supported Dumbledore, and participated in disguising themselves as Harry via polyjuice potion. Despite losing an ear, George kept a cheerful mood, and attempted to bring some relief while at the Burrow. When Voldermort's reign started, George became a member of Potterwatch, speaking against the dark lord and telling wizards to support Harry and protect muggles. The twins later participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, and despite Fred's death, Harry managed to defeat Lord Voldermort.
- George's birthdate alongside his twin, April 1st, is appropriate since they both became pranksters.
