The Gerudo Tribe are major recurring characters in the The Legend of Zelda franchise. They are a female only race with only one Gerudo male born once every hundred years, and it was traditional that a male would be the ruler over them, and the only notable Gerudo man was Ganondorf. Given Ganondorf's sheer cruelty that left a mark that would hurt their reputation for generations that left them feeling responsible for so much suffering, they atone for their actions and sought to cut off all ties to Ganondorf, and they went from a reclusive gang of thieves to decent members of society that engages in foreign trade with other races.
Physiology[]
The Gerudo Tribe are well known for their physical traits such as their distinctive red hair, dark skin, slim to muscular builds, and yellow irises, which would take on the color green from Breath of the Wild onwards. Their ears were also rounded in the past before they began taking on a pointed form similar to typical Hylians.
As the Gerudo are an all-female race with males very rarely being born to them, they would leave their home to search for potential partners and every child born to them is almost unanimously female. Outside of that, they are generally wary towards men and have once thought that they were useless aside from Ganondorf until Link frees all the Carpenters which earns him respect and free access to their fortress and training ground. Nabooru was the only Gerudo who opposed Ganondorf and became the Sage of Spirit to help Link defeat him. Her actions would eventually have a positive influence on the Gerudo.
In the distant future, they have abandoned their criminalistic ways and have integrated with society and are on much peaceful terms with the Hyrulean Royal Family. They live in Gerudo Town in the arid desert where they have a female chieftain as their ruler. As they are aware of their dark history, with Urbosa exhibiting extreme resentment towards Calamity Ganon for its former allegiance with her people, they have a law that only welcomes those who are female to their settlement, while voe (the Gerudo term for male) are strictly prohibited as it was believed that it would bring disaster upon them. This would force Link to disguise himself as a woman to fool them in order to gain the help of Riju to take back the corrupted Divine Beast Vah Naboris, that was causing electrical sandstorms wherever it went. Despite this rule, Goron are exempt from this rule as their species consist solely of males and they do not reproduce, instead popping out of the earth.

Religion[]
Unlike most of Hyrule, the Gerudo do not worship the Goddess Hylia. They revere the Seven Heroines, a group of divine female warriors who protect and guide the Gerudo people. Despite their status, little is actually known about these deities which has caused disputed among the Gerudo. It is said that each heroine possesses unique powers and an eighth heroine actually existed but was shunned by the others. In Tears of the Kingdom, it is revealed that this eighth heroine was actually a male who united the Seven Heroines to save Gerudo Town from destruction, but due to Gerudo laws on gender, his contributions faded into obscurity with only little evidence to acknowledge his existence. Ashamed by this and wanting to make amends, the Seven Heroines had a hidden temple built to honor him.
