Gin (ギン, Gin?) is a major character in the Baratie arc of One Piece. He is the second-in-command of the Krieg Pirates.
He was voiced by Kenichi Ono in Japanese, Peter Katana in the 4Kids English dub and Illich Guardiola and David Matranga in the Funimation English dub. In the Live Action he is portrayed by Litha Bam.
Biography[]
Gin is the right-hand of Don Krieg, being famous due his killing abilities and record. During a voyage to the Grand Line, the Krieg Pirates were eventually defeated by the Warlord Dracule Mihawk. Forcing them to return to the East Blue. Gin pretends to be Krieg to be captured in his place by Fullbody, a lieutenant of the marine, then Gin escapes and manages to arrive at the sea restaurant Baratie.
Gin, dying of hunger and thirst, orders food, but receives bad treatment from the cooks because he was without money, being kicked out. However, Sanji decides to give him food secretly, since he already had a horrible experience being a castaway without food or water and doesn't want anyone else to go through it. Gin initially rudely rejects his help but in the end he decides to eat what they have served him, remaining very grateful to Sanji. Soon after this, the Krieg Pirates arrive at Baratie, who are also dying of hunger and thirst. Gin prevents the cooks from attacking Krieg while he orders them to prepare food for his men, however, Gin shows disapproval to Krieg's rude ways. After Zeff agrees to give the food to the pirates and a brief confrontation between Mihawk and Roronoa Zoro, Krieg decides to take over the Baratie and Gin has no choice but to obey him. Gin takes Zeff as a hostage and proposes to Sanji that he will free his boss if he defeats him in a fight. During the fight, both Gin and Sanji prove that they are up to the other's standards, at the end Gin defeats Sanji, but refuses to kill him since he is the only person who ever had any kindness towards him. Krieg takes this as a betrayal and uses his poison gas cannonball to execute Gin. Gin had the chance to use his gas mask to save his life but instead uses it to save Luffy's life. Gin breathes all the gas and is seriously poisoned. Then Sanji orders Patty and Carne to treat the effects of poison, so they both help Gin save his life. Gin successfully resists the effects of the poison, after Don Krieg is defeated by Luffy, Gin takes him back to his ship prior to returning to the Grand Line. Before that, he says goodbye to Sanji and Luffy, hoping to meet them again at the Grand Line.
During the Final Saga, Gin is seen with Krieg walking on Hachinosu. Here it is demonstrated that Gin survived the effects of the poison and that somehow Krieg spared his life.
