Nah. Divin's my life. I love it. I get a kick out of it everytime I lift some pompous idiot's purse. And that's 'ow we afford to eat. I'm like Robin 'Ood, ain't I? That's 'ow I see it.
~ Gina about her pickpocketing
Yeah. 'Im upstairs knows wot's wot, right? 'E knows wot people are like, on the inside. 'E won't 'ave the wrong end o' the stick. There are some coves like that bogtrotter, wot are rotten to the core. At the end o' the day, 'Im upstairs makes sure they get wot they deserve.
~ Gina, about her belief in God and divine retribution

Gina Lestrade is a character from The Great Ace Attorney.

She initially appeared in The Great Ace Attorney as an orphan pickpocket living roughly on the streets of London.

After encountering and being aided by the Baker Street gang, particularly the Japanese defense lawyer Ryunosuke Naruhodo, Gina goes on to acquire a position at Scotland Yard after serving a prison sentence, under the guidance of Inspector Tobias Gregson, as a trainee detective. This is both so she can become a better person, and to help her friend, Iris Wilson, by locating her missing father. During The Great Ace Attorney 2, she goes by the self-purported title of "Inspector Lestrade".

She is The Great Ace Attorney's version of Inspector Lestrade, from the Sherlock Holmes canon.

Life on the streets[]

Like most of the street urchins of the East End of Victorian Era London, she was born as a so-called 'bastard' to a mother, who did not want her. As all the homeless orphans were in the same boat, they'd all look out for one another, forming a comradery. Gina developed her habit for pickpocketing as a means to help the younger fellow orphans. However over time, she developed a genuine taste for it, and eventually began to enjoy the feeling she got from stealing money from the "pompous" folks of London. She once compared herself to that of Robin Hood.

Personality[]

As a pickpocket, and a "street tramp", Gina often faced abuse and discrimination, and was a convenient scapegoat. She was assumed to be the guilty party in any situation, and was heavily looked down upon by most people, particularly the wealthy and esteemed of London. Gina initially did not trust adults due to living in the alleyways, and had major trust issues in general. Her attitude was that she would trust no one, so that she would never get backstabbed or betrayed. However, after being a witness to one murder and then accused in another, Lestrade was taken under the wing of Gregson. Despite only being a trainee detective, Gina was was proud of her position. Thanks to the guidance of Iris, Herlock, Ryunosuke, Susato, and Inspector Gregson, Gina grew much more mature, and came to respect her superiors.

Gina has religious belief, and believes in God, whom she calls "'Im up stairs". When under the threat of death by the supposed curse of the 'Reaper of the Bailey', Gina was not fazed as she believed that God would ensure that only bad people, like Magnus McGilded, would be punished. She speaks in a heavy cockney, East End dialect, and uses 19th century cockney slang. She says "Blimey", and "Gordon Bennet" a lot. Gina uses some offensive and derogatory terms, by modern standards. For example, she calls Magnus McGilded a "bogtrotter", which although commonplace during the period she lived, is considered a highly offensive term for an Irishman by 21st century standards.
