NOTE: Do not confuse him with Optimus Prime as their robotic appearances look almost identical and in the English Dub Ginrai was called Optimus Prime but they ARE NOT the same character

Ginrai or Super Ginrai and God Ginrai is a character that first appears in the Anime Transformers Super-God Masterforce and later recurring character in the Japanese Generation One Continuity.

He was voiced in both robot and human forms by Hiroshi Takemura.

He has an appearance of a young male with black hair and brown eyes with an black shirt with white middle. He also has yellow bracelets when he dons the Masterbraces on.

Robot[]

He has a near identical appearance to Optimus Prime with some minor differences. In his Super Ginrai form he is more taller and has more red than blue. As God Ginrai when he combines with Godbomber he becomes more taller and has chest door, wings and shoulder canon.

Personality[]

The human Ginrai has an care free and relaxed personality as he wish to live an free man and originally had no interest in the war until he saw the cruelty of the Decepticons made him step up him up to end their evil.

Although if his friends are harmed or killed shown when the Decepticons began targeting and killing his trucker friends he can be wrathful and go into rage moments but will calm down after awhile.

Transformers: Victory[]

Main article: Victory Leo

The fully robotic Ginrai would return in the sequel where he helps out Star Saber against Deathsaurus but is fatally injured by his Living-Metal Destroying Canon since he no longer can regenerate any damage. He was eventually on life support and after some discussion with Star Saber having his lifesupport unplugged and died where he was eventually rebuilt as Victory Leo.

Legends[]

While the robot Ginrai was killed and rebuilt into Victory Leo the human counterpart was still alive as he was summoned to the Legends World to battle an revived Devil Z and bonded with an new Transtector now becoming it’s head rather than engine but still could wield his Chōkon Power allowing him to use his Fireguts ability as he drove off Devil Z as Super Ginrai but when the Legend World inhabitants thank him they mistake him for Optimus Prime due to the Transtector's appearance identical to the Autobot leader to Ginrai's annoyance.

Manga Continuity[]

Transformers Super-God Masterforce[]

To be added.

Transformers: Victory[]

While he doesn’t appear he was mentioned by Cab and Shūta as well as appear in a vision sequence when both compare him to Star Saber.

Unlike his Anime version the robotic Ginrai and Victory Leo are separate beings since he was never killed by Deathsaurus.

Transformers: Timelines[]

These comics are set in a version of the G1 cartoon.

Although his origin is left vague, Ginrai is an Autobot veteran of the Great War, who gained the nickname Fire Guts due to his bravery, who would become the leader of the Knights of Cybertron in the post Beast Machines age. However, Ginrai believes that any conflict could arise in the future, given his experiences, gaining a reputation for paranoia due to living in a peaceful age.

Wings Universe: Pirates vs Knights[]

Trivia[]

  • The real world reason why Ginrai looks like Optimus Prime is because Takara didn't value Optimus Prime like Hasbro at the time, and thus the Powermaster Optimus Prime toy was instead retoold and reimagined as a separate character, explaining in-universe why they look the same is because his Transtector was originally intended to revive Prime (as Prime had been killed off in The Headmasters) but was stolen by Devil Z in an clip-show episode recap. Some fans would be confused by the Omni-Productions English Dub of Masterforcre and Victory Animes as they called him Optimus Prime to localize to his english name despite not being connected aside from the origin. The Manga adaption of Masterforce had the Autobots even call him an reincarnation of Optimus Prime.
    • This jab of confusion would later be referenced in the Super Ginrai Manga where the Legends World inhabitants mistakenly call the human Ginrai's new Transtector Optimus Prime, much to his annoyance.
      • Ironically the Human Ginrai and the real Optimus Prime would later meet in the Legends Manga.
    • Ginrai's name would be used when Hasbro released God Ginrai as "Apex Armor Powermaster Optimus Prime" and had Hi-Q be called Ginrai due to Hasbro no longer having the rights to use the name at the time of it's release
    • Ginrai would used for a Titanmaster when Powermaster Optimus Prime was retooled into him and resold as "Magnus Prime" with the Titan Master minature called "Ginrai" and could give them Chōkon Power since the robot being called Ginrai would not be recognizable to those outside those who are familar with the Japanese Continuity so they used the "Magnus Prime" name being an "step up from Optimus Prime". [1]
  • According to a Tweet by Transformers convention club BotCon, which released the Wings Universe stories, it is stated this version of Ginrai has similar history to his Masterforce version with exception that he wasn't killed by Deathsaurus' living metal canon. [2]
  • Ginrai appears in the Studio Trigger Animation where the robot appears in background of many Autobot leaders and his death scene in Victory was shown.
