Giulio Gandini (ジュリオ・ガンディーニJurio Gandīni) is a major supporting character from My Hero Academia: You're Next. He is the butler for the wealthy Scervino family.
Appearance[]
Giulio is a man of average build with brownish-red hair tied back into a short ponytail, thin greenish-blue eyes, sharp teeth, and a mole under his left eye. After he was attacked by the Gollini Family, he lost his right eye, right arm, and left leg, which were later replaced with corresponding Support Items. His right eye also gained scarring around the socket, which he obscures with an eyepatch.
Fitting to his occupation, Giulio wears a black tailcoat, pants, and dress shoes, a grey vest, a black and gray striped tie, and a white undershirt with the collar popped up. He keeps his right sleeve rolled up and his left pant leg torn in order to keep his prosthetics exposed. His left leg and torso also have an array of belts strapping a pouch and holsters for his ammo and extra firearms.
In the anime, he is seen among the evacuees in U.A.'s residential area, now wearing blue jeans, and a loose-fitting, light blue dress shirt with the right sleeve rolled up just below his elbow.
Personality[]
Guilio is a calm, stern, and "affable" gentleman who has a fierce sense of loyalty to the Scervino Family, especially Anna. In the past, he was far more polite and happier. Despite being bound to the family's mansion and unable to leave Anna's side, he was still content and grateful towards Anna's father for taking him in and giving him a job and a home. Even after being left for dead by the Gollini Family and losing his Quirk, Giulio managed to literally piece himself together and pursue them to find Anna. Giulio was even honor-bound to finish Anna off as she requested, despite him being in much agony on the thought of said action.
Giulio is rather cold to new people as shown with Izuku Midoriya, where he asked him politely to go die somewhere else or that he could be useful as a human shield. When it comes to enemies, he shows no mercy and will not back down no matter the odds. This was best seen when confronting a heavily enhanced Dark Might with him still pushing through the battle. He has a very cynical view of Heroes and Villains, unlike everyone else, believing them to be nothing but hypocrites of their purpose because despite their intentions, he doesn't think they'll care enough for even the most fragile of people like Anna, even calling out Izuku to be a hypocritical brat who selfishly believes in his notion of becoming a Hero.
Despite his cold attitude, Giulio has a kind and warm heart that opens up from time to time. Such as when telling Izuku that by tagging along with his team to confront Dark Might, he could see him smile or when he assured Anna that she shouldn't label him as dead just yet. After finally saving Anna and freeing her from the pain of her Quirk, Giulio announced that he had fulfilled his contract and was no longer needed, yet despite that, was happy when Anna said she still wanted him around and agreed to stay with her.
Abilities[]
Overall Abilities: Giulio is a formidable opponent to whom he ever comes into combat with, having been trained in the military before becoming a butler for the Scervino Family. He is an exceptionally talented and dangerous combatant who was not only capable of contending with some Heroes and Villains in close-quarters combat, but can nullify Quirks using his own. Even without the usage of his Quirk after being injured and replaced with prosthetics, Giulio is adaptive and modifies some of his prosthetics into makeshift weapons, such as a prosthetic arm that turns into a gun, and relies on his proficiency in hand-to-hand combat to deal with threats. His overall abilities would have made him a pivotal combatant against opponents who are Quirk-reliant, if not for his injuries and the prosthetics that renders his own Quirk nearly inoperable.
Despite that, he can also utilize his prosthetics and engage in guerilla tactics to beat his opponents, such as Deborah Gollini, which was not affected by her Quirk to hypnotize her victims into a comatose dream state, allowing his robotic eye to counter-attack.
Marksmanship: Despite having to wear an eye patch, Giulio is incredibly skilled with his various firearms, including his prosthetic arm-gun.
Skilled Driver: Giulio has shown to be extremely proficient in driving his motorcycle. He is able to effortlessly maneuver along all types of terrain, be it the ruined cities of Japan or through the numerous artificial environments created by Dark Might's Alchemy. Giulio is also capable of fighting while riding on top of his motorcycle and can effortlessly exercise his gunplay while attacking and defending from his opponents at increased speeds.
Quirk[]
Neutralization: Giulio's Quirk allows him to temporarily nullify someone's Quirk Factor whenever he touches them with his right arm, effectively making them Quirkless for a short period of time. Due to losing his right arm, which stored his own Quirk Factor, he became unable to activate Neutralization. This was reversed after coming under the effects of Anna's "Overmodification", allowing his Quirk Factor to spread past his arm and become usable once more, throughout the rest of his body. It also grew to the point where it can neutralize a target's Quirk Factor permanently.
History[]
During the fight at a civilian refugee camp, Izuku tries to restrain Ginji with his Blackwhip, but then suddenly, Ginji becomes more powerful after holding Anna again, allowing him to nearly overwhelm him. Before Ginji could counter-attack, the eyepatch man, Giulio Gandini, appears and shoots at Ginji from long distance, causing him to let go of Anna. He rides his motorcycle and then loads his prosthetic robot arm to take another shot at Anna, which Izuku is too slow to stop, before suddenly, a bubble that slows down time appears over Anna, stopping the bullet. Giulio tries to shoot more again, before Izuku restrains him with Blackwhip, demanding an explanation; Giulio holds Izuku at gunpoint, but Danger Sense doesn't activate, indicating to him he's not a real threat.
Dubbing himself as All Might's villainous version, Dark Might, Valdo Gollini wants to know which student of Class 1-A is All Might's successor and decides to test them to see which student is worthy of being a challenge. Using video cameras to observe all the different biomes in the fortress, he also notices that Giulio is inside as well. He initially intends to ignore him, but Paulo volunteers to dispose of him, to make up for accidentally losing Anna earlier. He instructs each of the family to have their Quirks enhanced through Anna, and with each family empowered, they can now begin their next phase. Kamille uses his Quirk, Spatial Excursion, to move the fortress, as it pushes itself forward across cities, consuming everything in their vicinity.
Meanwhile, the Class 1-A teams regain consciousness and end up in different areas of the fortress, but are unable to communicate with each other. Izuku and the rest of Team 1 wake up in a supposedly beautiful paradise in the forest, which Izuku notices are all hollow. Toru discovers a manhole, so Izuku using Float and Ochaco using Zero Gravity lower themselves in to investigate. Suddenly, Izuku's Quirk stops working, forcing him to hold on and tell Ochaco to return up and inform the others. Izuku loses his grip and falls down the deep hole, lending in a snowy, mountainous area.
While getting his bearings, he stumbles upon Giulio, who acts hostile toward him. Just then, they are suddenly ambushed by several of the Gollini Family's henchmen shooting at them, and with Izuku currently Quirkless, Giulio takes matters into his own hands and defeats them. Giulio reluctantly gives Izuku a ride on his motorcycle where they use a device from one of the henchmen to find Dark Might's location. They drive through a tunnel that leads them to a coastal beach bedrock when they are suddenly ambushed by Paulo and a couple of henchmen. Izuku is able to deduce that Paulo is the one causing his Quirk not to function using his Quirk, Erasure Spot, which allows him to conjure a field of bubble to disable Quirks and a smaller bubble for him to activate Quirks. He is able to deduce his weak spot and, together with Giulio, Izuku reaches the spot to re-activate his Quirk and defeats Paulo with Faux 100 Percent: Manchester Smash.
After Paulo was defeated, Dark Might shows up in front of them. Izuku attacks with Full Cowl, but Dark Might effortlessly blocks it and then defeats Izuku with his Ultimate Move, Bologna Smash, punching right into Izuku's face, sending him flying into the mountain and knocking him unconscious; Giulio quickly rushes over and catches him before he falls. Dark Might then conjures monsters from the ground and admonishes Paulo for failing once again, punishing him by dropping him into the void, before then telling Giulio and Izuku they can try and face them again later. In private, Dark Might notices Izuku managed to get a scratch on him with his attack, which irritates him greatly.
Izuku eventually regains consciousness and is being carried by Giulio on his motorcycle as they make their way to the town center, where they witness all the unconscious civilians and students lying there. After realizing that Deborah and Dark Might have been using the civilians to see how many are compatible with Anna, Deborah proceeds to hypnotize Izuku and Giulio as well. Under Deborah's Day Dream, Izuku finds himself back in his youth, surrounded by his All Might memorabilia, and having fun with All Might himself. However, he is brought back to his senses by the vestiges of One For All: Yoichi Shigaraki, Kudo, Bruce, Hikage Shinomori, Daigoro Banjo, En Tayutai, and Nana Shimura, making him realize it is all a dream.
Nana tells Izuku that everyone affected by Day Dream are interconnected with each other, as Izuku can see brief snippets of several of his classmates' fantasies. Nana reminds him that everyone has dreams and desires they've always wanted, with Izuku wanting to be a Hero, but a Hero isn't something like becoming All Might or a Symbol of Peace, but to do what All Might wants him to be: a Hero to save people, and to reach out for those who are in need. Izuku then sees Giulio's dream, acting as the butler for Anna, taking care of her, and helping her when she starts to reel in pain due to her Quirk.
In reality, Deborah attempts to have one of the bystanders strangle him to death while Giulio is hypnotized, which he sees as Anna doing so to him. When she does, Izuku calls to Giulio in his dream, which makes him snap back into reality, and thanks to his prosthetic eye, he is able to see through Deborah's deception and turns his right robotic arm gun toward her, shooting her in the shoulder. This causes Deborah to deactivate her Quirk, freeing everyone who was hypnotized by her Day Dream.
Anna regains herself and sees Giulio for the first time. At first, she is happy to see him, but then, Giulio turns his gun arm at her, as she seemingly accepts her fate. Giulio fires his arm gun, but Izuku intervenes and stops him from hitting Anna, just before Kamille comes and takes Deborah and Anna away. Giulio angrily berates Izuku as a wannabe hypocritical Hero who knows nothing of suffering, and then finally explains everything about Anna and the Gollini Family.
A while ago, Giulio was the butler for the wealthy Scervino Family. He was hired by Anna's father to help with her Quirk, Overmodification, which allows her to greatly enhance the Quirk Factors of anyone she physically touches in any way she can, but only to certain compatible people, while others who are not compatible will experience intense seizing pain, which she herself is also victim to. Giulio's Quirk, Neutralization, allows him to temporarily neutralize her Quirk by touching her with his right arm, allowing her to finally receive something resembling a healthy lifestyle, after spending years isolated away. At first, the effects were only harmless enough for Anna to be free, but as she got older, her Quirk has already reached Quirk Singularity, making Giulio's Neutralization harder to use on her, and soon, his Quirk won't be able to nullify her Quirk anymore. Because of her dangerous ability Anna made Giulio promise to kill her if she ever reaches the point of no return when her Quirk becomes unstable and hurts people; Giulio vows to do that for Anna to end her suffering. However, sometime after All Might's final battle with All For One, the Gollini Family learned of Anna's Quirk, and attacked the household, killing the entire Scervino family, including Anna’s father, and kidnapped Anna.
