Glaceon is an Ice-Type Pokémon introduced in Gen IV and one of the eight evolutions of Eevee.
Appearance[]
Glaceon is a quadrupedal mammalian Pokémon that resembles a arctic animal. It has a light blue fur with dark diamond-shaped patterns on its back, neck, the end of its tail and hair strips. Its tail is cerulean blue along with its cap like hair that resembles ice. It also has long rhomboid shaped, light blue, rabbit-like ears and dark blue paws.
Special Abilities[]
According to the Pokédex Entries, Glaceon can control their body heat and freeze the air around them to create a diamond-dust flurry, and their emanating coldness can cause powdery snow to appear. In addition, they can form small ice crystals by lowering their surrounding temperature and the lowest temperature their body can drop to is -60 degree Celsius or -75 degree Fahrenheit. By decreasing its body heat, they can also freeze their fur into sharp needles and nearby moisture into ice pellets to shoot at their prey. Because of their ability to create snow at will, Glaceon are extremely welcome at skiing resorts. Despite their proficiency over the cold, if Glaceon overexerts its powers, their body temperature will drop too low to the point that they would be unable to control it, resulting in hypothermia.
Behavior[]
Most Glaceon are docile, cool and collected making them a top choice for trainers, however wild Glaceon are also skilled hunters. They either actively tackle their prey by shooting their spiky icicle fur, or enamor the victims through their captivating beauty to prevent them from being aware of eventually being frozen by their icy breath.
Evolution[]
In Gen IV-VII, Eevee evolves into Glaceon by getting near an Ice Rock located in specific places.
From Gen VIII forward, Eevee now requires Ice Stone in order to evolve into Glaceon.
In the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, Eevee requires Frozen Rock to evolve into Glaceon instead.
Trivia[]
- Both Glaceon and Vanillite are known as The Fresh Snow Pokémon.
- Despite being an Ice-Type, Glaceon can't learn the Ice-Type Move, Aurora Beam.
- However Vaporeon can learn Aurora Beam, presumably could be due to the move's association with other pure water-type like the legendary Suicune.
- Glaceon has the highest Special attack from all non-legendary Ice-type Pokémon.
- Glaceon's highest stat (like Jolteon has Speed, Flareon has Attack, etc.) can be evasiveness, due to its ability, Snow Cloak.
- Glaceon is tied with Espeon for the highest Special Attack of the Eeveelutions, although Espeon has a higher Speed and Glaceon has a higher Defense.
- Glaceon's Japanese name is Glacia which is the same name of one of Hoenn's Elite Four Members and she is an Ice-Type Specialist which is Glaceon's Type.
- According to the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex, Glaceon and Leafeon's footprints are the same (it may also be related to the fact they both evolve under similar conditions, leveling up near a special rocks).
- In Generation VIII, both Leafeon and Glaceon gets a new way of evolving, they do not evolve in a certain place anymore, instead they evolve with Evolution Stones and that is by a Leaf Stone for Leafeon, and an Ice Stone for Glaceon.
- Prior to the changes in evolutionary methods, for 13 years, it was impossible to obtain Leafeon or Glaceon below Level 2, as the old method of leveling up near a rock obviously required leveling up at least once. However, as of Generation VIII, these Pokémon can now be obtained at Level 1, as no Experience points are required for stone evolutions.
- Like Umbreon, Glaceon has a type-advantage against its evolutionary counterpart (Espeon and Leafeon respectively). The Dark-Type Umbreon is strong against the Psychic-Type Espeon and the Ice-Type Glaceon is strong against the Grass-Type Leafeon.
- Both Glaceon and Leafeon are weak against Flareon's Fire-Type moves.
- However, unlike its counterpart Leafeon, Glaceon is weak against only a single evolution of Eevee, while Leafeon (and Vaporeon which is weak against Leafeon and Jolteon) is weak against 2 (Flareon and Glaceon). It shares this trait with Flareon and Espeon (as Jolteon, Umbreon, and Eevee itself posses no weakness against the other Eeveelutions) both of which are weak to only one evolution of Eevee.
- Like Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Umbreon, and Leafeon, Glaceon have a type-advantage against at least one of the Evolutions of Eevee types (Eevee and Espeon being the only ones not to possess a type advantage against any of the Eeveelutions).
