~ Glep speaking his gibberish language, Wingon

Glep is the tritagonist of the adult animated comedy series Smiling Friends. He's a small green critter who works at Smiling Friends Inc..

Although his exact job in the company is unknown (even to his fellow coworkers), he's usually seen in the background doing random unrelated things around the office. He speaks in an incomprehensible, fast-paced gibberish language called "Wingon," but despite this, he is still understood by the rest of the cast.

In "The Glep Ep," it's revealed that Glep served as the company's co-founder and inspired it's business model upon meeting a homeless Mr. Boss.

He's voiced by the series' co-creator Zach Hadel, who also voices Charlie Dompler, Gwimbly, Plilford, and the Bug of Knowledge in the same series. In "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back", he was voiced by Joshua Tomar.

Appearance[]

Glep is a small green-colored critter who has very small limbs and large eyes located beside his beak-like mouth. He usually wears a purple wizard-style hat.

Personality[]

Glep appears to be a somewhat lazy and often preoccupied critter, usually minding his own business by watching videos on his tablet, sleeping, playing video games, or lounging in the break room engaging in various smaller hobbies of his (like witting, solving Rubix's cubes, painting small toys, etc.). He prefers to keep to himself and his own activities and is rather irritable; whenever he gets interrupted, he tends to respond dismissively or as though he is annoyed. Examples include when Allan asked about a missing paperclip, during his Mr. Frog auditions, or when Pim yelled in the room, prompting him to put his headphones on. It's even mentioned that he bit Mr. Boss when the latter tried waking him up. At times, he also can be absent-minded, wandering around Mr. Boss' office aimlessly during "The Magical Red Jewel (aka Tyler Gets Fired)."

In spite of speaking only in gibberish, Glep is apparently perceptive according to his coworkers, who somehow understand him. When explaining his decision to vote for Mr. Frog and suggesting they keep Rotten in the freezer to keep him alive, he was praised for his thinking. Glep is also an amicable character who does appear to like his coworkers, as he does get along with them, and in "Mole Man," he is genuinely upset seeing Charlie and Pim fall into a caving hole, frantically telling Mr. Boss and Allan what happened.

Glep also seems to be attracted to tall, curvy women, as evidenced by his wife Marge and his interest in such women at the beach, causing him to blush when it's pointed out.

In "The Glep Ep," his backstory is revealed, where it was revealed that Glep spent most of his life trying to fit in but struggling due to his differences. By the end of the episode, he is welcomed back into the Smiling Friends after Boss fired him, and he accepts that it's where he truly belongs.

Quotes[]

Yup. Hell is actually real, and Christianity was right all along. Sorry. Merry Christmas everyone!
~ Glep's first on-screen spoken words in "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back"
Yeah.
~ Glep's second on-screen spoken words, said when telling Allan he was wrong to deny Mr. Boss' hot dog; when accepting Mr. Boss' proposition in 1992; and when agreeing to come back.

Trivia[]

  • In the episode "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back," an elderly Glep tells the story to his grandson Gleppie. In the background, a picture of Glep and his wife at the Oval Office can be seen, indicating he became President of the United States at some point in the future.
    • At the end of "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back", Old Glep mentions "Christianity was right all along". Ironically, Joshua Tomar (Old Glep's voice actor) is Jewish.
      • This also marks the only time so far that Glep has spoken English in the series.
  • In the episode "Mr. President," the Worm News doxxes Glep and showcases his personal information on live TV as revenge for having elected Mr. Frog as president. The newscast reveals the following:
    • Glep does not have a surname; his full name is just "Glep," making him the only Smiling Friend without one.
    • He was born on 7/9/329, making him 1,696 years old and thus the oldest Smiling Friend.
    • His social security number is 999-45-6789.
    • He lives in Pennsylvania at 1352 Green Palm Terrace.
    • His height is 1'6" (45.72 cm).
    • He weighs 8 lbs (3.6 kg).
    • His eye color and hair color are green.
    • His sex is also registered as "Green."
  • Everyone apparently knows Glep hates gardening, according to Charlie.
  • Both Glep and Allan are said to not be real Smiling Friends twice in "Mole Man." The episode also marks the first time Glep treats a client: Maurine.
  • Several details about Glep are revealed in "The Glep Ep" (which was originally titled "The Glepisode"):
    • He is incredibly wealthy, living in a giant mansion with a purple supercar.
    • He owns a brown leather jacket, which is similar to the jacket Zach wears at many conventions.
    • His driver's license is shown and reveals that he was an organ donor.
    • He is accidently responsible for both the fall of the Roman Empire and the Black Death. The former started after the Roman Emperor went insane from seeing Glep's dance when he tried to get himself off the hook for stealing apples, and the latter started when Glep got sick and coughed during his own witch burning.
    • He first met Mr. Boss homeless in 1992 when the latter's original business fell apart due to a stock market crash. When Boss threatened to kill himself over it, Glep danced and convinced him not do, which inspired the entire business model of Smiling Friends Inc.
    • Despite his ambiguous/non-existent role in the company, Glep's absence is revealed to cause chaos and anarchy in the office.
