God is the overarching protagonist of the supernatural TV series Lucifer.

He is the one of the benefactors of the universe and the creator of the titular protagonist Lucifer, whom the latter turned against due to being manipulated by his brother Michael, resulting in him landing on Hell and Earth where he becomes better.

He was voiced by Neil Gaiman in the early seasons and currently Dennis Haysbert onwards.

Personality[]

God is described as being Wise, Mysterious, Calm, Charismatic, friendly, curious, supportive and empathetic towards his family and any demon, He can also be questionable when he temporarily explodes Dan. Throughout the series, he learns to genuinely bond with his angels and understands the meaning of responsibility towards his children, He can rarely be angry, he can change into an echoing voice as shown when Lucifer and Michael argue over their differences.

Biography[]

At some point prior to the series, God was a celestial Being who met another similar counterpart The Goddess, the two eventually fell in love and quickly spouted all of existence, including Lucifer and the Angels. During Earth’s foundation he began to manifest creatures which we would soon develop into Humanity, which would become his fascination than anything he would have thought of, This would lead to his Family attempting to go against him including his wife Goddess, resulting in her imprisonment and Michael manipulating his brother Lucifer in attempt to overthrow his father but he to was cast away into the place known as Hell, afterwards God made trust of his remaining children by destroying the flaming sword into three pieces, which were landed to earth, one of the pieces were kept in a necklace and was given to God’s favourite Angel, Amenadiel. God would then began making earth as letting the Angels ascend on earth but cannot kill any human. Near the present centuries on earth, while God was just giving orders from his eldest son, He would tell him to help the parents of Chloe Decker who were in his need to grant the ability to produce a child. Resulting in her postcode connections with Lucifer’s countering temptations later on in the series, Although he would know to retire his position when confronted by Michael among his peers and followed his trick, knowing about his defeat by his brother Lucifer, He would help his eldest Son deploy in earth to help Lucifer retrieve his necklace and prevent Cain from encountering Godesss who would break his curse. In the fifth season he makes his first appearance which he separates his Children from their differences, except for Lucifer who calls him out over Michael’s actions before leaving, This was the only time God appears on earth and meet his human grandchild Charlie and plans to reconcile with his bloodline of Angels until they come to terms with each other, showing his considerate towards his creations and Demons of Hell, including Maze knowing about their redemption, He would temporarily became human on earth as far as to understand his children until his powers were preserved by his grandson Charlie. In the final season, having coming to terms with his actions and finally admitting his actions, He finally retires with Goddess and gives up the throne to his eldest sons, he became proud at both Amenadiel and Lucifer, finally showing the love he had for millions of years, He then leaves a portal through the curtains to be in the next Universe along with his wife Goddess to make up the lost time they had together, he states to Lucifer that all of this was his plan upon his decision for a successor to rule earth before departing peacefully with a smile.

Trivia[]

  • God sitting among his Angels at the dinner table is a reference to Jesus Christ and the Last Supper.
  • In an earlier episode, Lucifer tells Chloe that his Dad doesn't look like Morgan Freeman (referencing God from the 'Almighty' films). Ironically, he does take the form of an African-American male.
  • While never telling the rest of his children directly, God was most proud of Lucifer and Amenadiel for forging their own destinies away from him. Amenadiel learned the responsibility of family and fatherhood, while Lucifer built up his own life as a successful entrepreneur.
