Overview[]

Background[]

The Golden Bat originates from a lost continent of Atlantis, the legend tells that every five thousand years the world is threatened with destruction but can be protected if the Golden Bat is awakened from his casket. What is needed to reawaken him is a drop of water. The one who awakened him will have a special connection with Golden Bat and be able to summon him whenever danger arises. His archenemy is Dr. Nazo.

Black Bat[]

The mysterious and then-new Golden Bat stops Black Bat (who became Dr. Nazo) committing robberies.

The Golden Bat (1930)[]

In this sequel to the above Black Bat; Golden Bat who previously defeated Black Bat in his previous battle, once again meets Black Bat, who has turned out not to be terminated and also renamed himself ''Nazo,'' and plays an active role in giving helpt to the Masaru boys.

As this work was apparently never finished, it's unknown whether Golden Bat won the battle or not.

Appearance[]

In the original kamishibai, the Golden Bat is a humanoid golden skeleton having white eyes with black pupils. For attire he wears green and white swashbuckler shirt alongside a red cape with a high white collar and carries a golden rapier, black pants and shoes alongside a belt around his waist with a holder for his rapier at the side.

Later manga appearances would give him a different look, being depicted with a witch-like head, wearing green and golden shirt with pleated white cuffs and a pleated white collar, white pants, and golden shoes with white ribbons on top, and a gray or black Musketeer hat with a feather. The appearance would also be used in the 1950 film, although while the film is in black and white, as the poster implies, the colors remain largely the same as in the said manga.
