NOTE: This article is about the incarnation of Golden Freddy from the film series. The mainstream version can be found here.

Golden Freddy: We're just... moving on. We can’t stay in those bodies anymore.
Abby: Are going to heaven?
Golden Freddy: See you there someday? But not too soon. Mike?
Mike: Yeah?
Golden Freddy: You should know that when we leave… I won't be able to hold him anymore. He'll get out eventually, and he'll be stronger than before.
~ Golden Freddy's last words before moving on to the afterlife; foreshadowing the return of William Afton.

Golden Freddy is a major character in Universal Pictures' Five Nights at Freddy's film series, based on the video game franchise of the same name.

The ghost of one of William Afton's victims, the boy takes on the appearance of a ghostly golden version of Freddy Fazbear. While under the manipulations and control of Afton, he serves as the secondary antagonist of the first film. After being freed from Afton's control by Mike and Abby Schmidt, he becomes a distant ally to the two, keeping Afton's violent spirit at bay as well as allowing the other spirits of the Missing Children to aid them in times of danger. However, after stepping out from the pizzeria, his and his friends' souls move to the afterlife, not before warning Mike that William will return.

He was portrayed through puppetry by Artie Esposito and Amanda Maddock as an animatronic. As a ghost child, he was portrayed by Grant Feely who also played the young Luke Skywalker from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Appearance[]

Golden Freddy's appearance is mostly similar to that of his video game incarnation, being a ghost-like animatronic with an appearance quite similar to that of Freddy Fazbear, but with minor elements added. He is a golden-brown color and his muzzle, stomach and paw pads are a lighter shade of his main color while his inner ear is a darker shade of his main color. Like his video game counterpart from the second game, his left ear seems to be missing as it leaves wires to stick out while his left eye is also missing, with the eyelid being damaged. Instead of having empty eyesockets with white pinpricks, his right eye looks black with a blue pupil while his left eye is missing. Similar to Freddy, he sports a black bow tie and top hat, except his hat seems to have holes and tears while it is leaning on the left side of his head.

As a ghost child, he has white skin, with short blonde hair and blue eyes. He also wears a long-sleeved brown shirt with yellow horizontal stripes, along with grayish blue jeans and light brown shoes.

Biography[]

Past[]

The boy who would go on to be known as Golden Freddy was once a normal boy who visited the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant. It was there he was abducted and murdered by the franchise co-owner William Afton. His spirit was manipulated and controlled by Afton, unable to remember how he died (or who killed him). During that time, it is presumed Afton used him, as well as the other spirits possessing animatronics, to kill security guards at old Faxbear locations.

Five Nights at Freddy's[]

After Mike Schmidt is hired by Afton to be a security guard at Freddy's, he is plagued by nightmares involving the ghosts of the missing children. Thinking the dreams are means to go back in his memories and discover what happened to his missing brother Garrett, Mike naively continues returning and seeking answers in his dreams.

On his fourth shift, Golden Freddy offers Mike the ability to dream of his lost family in exchange for his sister Abby. Mike initially begins to agree, but soon refuses, causing Golden Freddy and the other spirits to retaliate. Golden Freddy decides to go after Abby himself, incapacitating her Aunt Jane and kidnapping her to Freddy's.

However, as Abby and Mike are menaced by Afton, Abby uses a drawing to make the spirits remember how they died. They turn on their killer, causing the springlocks on his suit to snap and kill him. As Afton bleeds out, the ghost of Golden Freddy watches on.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2[]

Two years later, Abby is unable to let her animatronic friends go, constantly wanting to see them, but is devastated when they are nowhere to be found with Mike suggesting their souls moved on to an afterlife. Unbeknownst to them, the ghost children are still around somewhere in the ruined pizzeria due to their animatronic bodies need more proper resting other than on stage. In the backroom, Golden Freddy continuously prevents William Afton's spirit from escaping his unavoidable imprisonment throughout the whole film so his ghost friends' killer won't cause another murder spree to anyone again until the climax would happen later.

However, The Marionette, possessed by Charlotte's vengeful spirit, takes advantage of this, pretending to be the spirits to lure Abby to the first Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location, then use the Toy Animatronics to manipulate Abby and allow them out of the restaurant. The Marionette possesses Abby and tries to use her as a vessel, but she is driven out by Mike. She, along with Michael Afton, summon the Toy Animatronics to kill Mike and Abby, but a desperate plea from Mike causes Golden Freddy to bring the other spirits, possessing the animatronics, to their aid and destroy the Toys.

However, because the animatronics left the pizzeria, they begin to malfunction and break down, essentially dying again. Golden Freddy appears and says that their spirits can no longer live in the robot bodies, and will instead truly move on to an afterlife. Before fading, Golden Freddy attempts to explain to Mike that he has been keeping Afton's spirit trapped since his death, but once he fades, will no longer be able to do so. He disappears, leaving Mike unsure of what will happen next.

Trivia[]

  • The film and novel versions of Golden Freddy are the only characters in the canon FNAF series to be heroic, not counting the Princess who has not yet been confirmed to be Golden Freddy.
    • This also makes this version of Golden Freddy to the novel one, as both of them are the only members of the Missing Children to be heroes and choose to be good.
    • Conversely, this also makes him a parallel to Gabriel, from the mainline games, as he is also the only member of the Missing Children to actively choose and be good.
  • Fans have noted that this version of Golden Freddy bears similarities to the games' version of the Puppet/Marionette, being a protector of the missing children and a misguided, but ultimately heroic force against Afton. Conversely, the films' version of the Puppet/Marionette is similar to the games' version of Golden Freddy, being a more violent, vengeful, and villainous spirit, though still opposed to Afton.
